Smart Farming: Enhancing Urban Agriculture Through Predictive Analytics and Resource Optimization

Optimal agricultural methods need precise crop health and ecological strain monitoring. This study proposes a novel data science strategy to improve crop health prediction and stress assessment. ResXceNet-HBA is a cutting-edge classification model that uses ResNet blocks, Xception modules with Adaptive Depthwise Separable Convolutions, and HBA-optimized parameters. This model uses HBA's Dynamic Exploration-Exploitation Balance-fine-tuned Dynamic Feature Recalibration and adaptive convolutions. Imputation Weight Crop Labels (WICL) to accurately fill in missing data, Localised Feature Scaling (LFS) and Adaptive Feature Discretization (AFD) to standardize and categorize features, and the Environmental Stress Factor (ESF) to evaluate crop stress address data problems ASRFS and Crop-Specific Environmental Impact Weighting increase model performance. Our system also employs Adaptive Synthetic Resampling with Environmental Context. Using novel measures including the Crop Type Generalisation Score (CTGS) and Environmental Sensitivity Index (ESI), the ResXceNet-HBA model achieved 98.5% accuracy, 98.2% precision, 98.7% recall, and 98.4% F1-Score. These results beat ResNet, CNN, and Inception V2. The model executed in 50.9 seconds, faster than the alternatives. The confusion matrix exhibits minimal false positives and negatives, suggesting good prediction accuracy. ResXceNet-HBA's statistics and resource optimization value increases. Precision farming and sustainable agriculture benefit from our strategy's significant environmental stress and crop health assessments. © 2013 IEEE.

Cataract surgery, a widely performed operation worldwide, is incorporating semantic segmentation to advance computer-assisted intervention. However, the tissue appearance and illumination in cataract surgery often differ among clinical centers, intensifying the issue of domain shifts. While domain adaptation offers remedies to the shifts, the necessity for data centralization raises additional privacy concerns. To overcome these challenges, we propose a Multi-view Test-time Adaptation algorithm (MUTA) to segment cataract surgical scenes, which leverages multi-view learning to enhance model training within the source domain and model adaptation within the target domain. In the training phase, the segmentation model is equipped with multi-view decoders to boost its robustness against variations in cataract surgery. During the inference phase, test-time adaptation is implemented using multi-view knowledge distillation, enabling model updates in clinics without data centralization or privacy concerns. We conducted experiments in a simulated cross-center scenario using several cataract surgery datasets to evaluate the effectiveness of MUTA. Through comparisons and investigations, we have validated that MUTA effectively learns a robust source model and adapts the model to target data during the practical inference phase. © 1982-2012 IEEE.

Efficient navigation of emergency response vehicles (ERVs) through urban congestion is crucial to life-saving efforts, yet traditional traffic systems often slow down their swift passage. In this work, we introduce Dynamic Priority Signalling system (DyPSS), an intelligent, multi-layered traffic management solution designed to minimize ERV delays by creating "green corridors"at traffic signals. Using technologies like fog computing, cloud computing, global positioning system and deep learning, DyPSS adjusts traffic lights instantly to clear congestion as an ERV approaches. Simulation testing was conducted using SUMO and it demonstrated DyPSS's potential to significantly reduce ERV travel time in dense urban settings with minimal disruption to general traffic flow. This system could drastically improve emergency response by reducing delays and helping responders reach their destinations faster, potentially saving more lives. © 2025 IEEE.

AI-powered dining: text information extraction and machine learning for personalized menu recommendations and food allergy management

Individuals with food allergies face limitations in social events and restaurant dining. Artificial intelligence solutions should be offered to this category. In this paper, a recommender system is proposed for the benefit of people with food allergies. The system aims to identify convenient options for the user in a restaurant/hotel menu. The system collects user’s allergy information and the restaurant menu, it extracts dishes names using a machine learning model. Then it conducts search about the recipes of these dishes and identify allergen-free ones. The system has been implemented as a mobile application involving a Naïve Bayes classification model and a web search API. The performance of the classifier was significant (accuracy 87%). Yet, an enhancement approach was introduced to increase the accuracy to 90%. In addition, an expert-driven test has been conducted and 98.5% of the system allergen identification was accurate in comparison with the original recipes used by restaurants’ chefs. © Bharati Vidyapeeth's Institute of computer Applications and Management 2024.

Agriculture is backbone of many economies but still farmers often face many challenges in accessing financial services or available resources for them, making informed crop choices and participating in government initiatives. Because of many farmers are not aware about all these things, to address these concerns, the proposed "Agricultural Financial Inclusion system" provides a comprehensive platform which integrates essential services with aim of improving farmers’ production and their financial awareness. Our system has a crop recommendation feature that helps farmers to choose the best suitable crop for their soil in the farm by taking climate and soil type into account. In order to make sure that farmers are aware about various available services/resources or any government schemes and able to take advantage of them, the platform also offers essential information on a variety of government initiatives, saving plans etc. By combining all these features, the Agricultural Financial Inclusion system encourage farmers to make smart choices which help them to enhance agricultural productivity and financial stability. In order to create more successful and sustainable agriculture sector, this integrated approach hopes to fill the gap between farmers and technology & resources they need. © 2025 IEEE.

MCI-GAN: a novel GAN with identity blocks inspired by menstrual cycle behavior for missing pixel imputation

This paper presents MCI-GAN, a novel menstrual cycle imputation (MCI) and generative adversarial network (GAN) framework designed to address the challenge of missing pixel imputation in medical images. Inspired by the intelligent behavior of the endometrial lining during the menstrual cycle, our method introduces four key innovations. First, we propose a novel metaheuristic algorithm that assigns weights to surround pixels based on menstrual cycle behavior, ensuring that the imputed pixels maintain structural integrity and coherence with their neighbors, thus preserving overall image quality. Second, to enhance the learning capability of the GAN, identity blocks are integrated into the network architecture, improving the network’s ability to capture complex spatial relationships and leading to more accurate and consistent imputation of missing pixels. Third, we introduce an adaptive loss function that dynamically adjusts the penalty for pixel discrepancies based on local image context, allowing the model to focus on areas where accurate imputation is most critical and thereby enhancing overall image fidelity. Fourth, the framework incorporates a multi-scale feature extraction mechanism, enabling the GAN to process and combine information at various levels of detail, ensuring that both fine-grained textures and larger structural patterns are accurately captured during the imputation process. The efficacy of MCI-GAN is demonstrated across three diverse medical imaging datasets: mammograms, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans, and skin lesion images. Our results show that the proposed method significantly outperforms existing approaches in terms of accuracy and structural coherence, offering a robust solution for missing pixel imputation in medical imaging. © The Author(s) 2025.

Efficient navigation across complex maps is a critical challenge in domains such as GPS systems, robotics, and sustainable logistics. Optimal route planning plays a key role in minimizing resource consumption, reducing environmental impact, and improving overall navigation efficiency. This study evaluates and compares the A-Star and Dijkstra algorithms to determine the most effective approach for shortest path computation in map-based routing. Our analysis examines both algorithms under identical map configurations, considering computational complexity, memory usage, and execution time. The results indicate that A-Star generally outperforms Dijkstra’s algorithm in identifying the shortest and most efficient route. While Dijkstra’s algorithm guarantees optimality, it requires more memory and a higher number of iterations, making it less efficient in large-scale scenarios. Empirical findings reveal that the time complexity of Dijkstra’s algorithm is O(V²), completing in 0.22 s, whereas A-Star achieves a faster execution time of 0.07 s with a time complexity of O(E). Regarding space complexity, Dijkstra consumes O(V + E) memory, using 179,241 to 190,961 bytes, while A-Star requires less, at O(V), using 159,287 to 163,919 bytes. These insights provide a comparative framework for selecting the appropriate algorithm based on map characteristics and computational efficiency. Our findings contribute to the development of sustainable pathfinding solutions, facilitating energy-efficient transportation and logistics. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Intelligent Transportation systems Japan 2025.

RobustFace: a novel image restoration technique for face adversarial robustness improvement

Machine Learning (ML) models, particularly Deep Learning (DL), have made rapid progress and achieved significant milestones across various applications, including numerous safety-critical contexts. However, these models have recently been discovered to be susceptible to adversarial attacks, which are well-crafted input images. The primary objective of this paper is to propose a novel methodology titled "RobustFace", which is based on deep image restoration networks, that significantly improves the facial adversarial robustness of various image-classification models. Adversarial images are created using the Private Fast Gradient Sign Method (P-FGSM), StyleGAN and Fast Landmark Manipulation (FLM) methods. The adversarial images are then enhanced using deep image restoration networks to bring back them into the original space. The encoded weighted local magnitude patterns (WLMP) are extracted and provided to different types of classifiers to detect facial adversarial images from the clean images. The effectiveness of RobustFace has been demonstrated on two real-world datasets and experimental outcomes show that it significantly improves facial adversarial robustness on all evaluating classifiers. It improves the highest classification accuracy from 98.75% to 99.00% on P-FGSM attacks, from 77.94% to 85.25% on adversarial attacks generated by StyleGAN and from 65.52% to 69.50% for FLM attacks. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Smart agriculture systems leverage the possibilities offered by cutting-edge technologies such as IoT, AI, and remote sensing to revolutionize conventional farming by enhancing resource utilization, production, and crop damage mitigation. Real-time monitoring of soil and crop health, predictive analytics, pest control, and precision irrigation measures are all enabled by these systems. They are able to address major Indian agriculture issues, consequently boosting yield and profitability and promoting environmental sustainability. The largescale deployment of intelligent agriculture systems will change the agriculture landscape in India and will assure long-term food security for an ever-growing population. Challenges include adequate research and future studies in order to better install and achieve smart agricultural systems to protect crops. Intelligent agriculture involves all advanced research, including science and innovations, in national development through space technologies to enhance soil quality, conserve water, and facilitate agriculture information. Space ventures will undergo improved modernization through the introduction of crop sprayers, precision gene editors, epigenetics, big data analytics, IoT, wind and photovoltaic smart energy, AI-enabled robotic applications, and wide-scale desalination technologies. Implementing digital farming systems in developing economies will help their sectors as 85 percent of the global population is set to live in developing countries by 2030. Automation will prove to be necessary since food scarcity is on the rise along with resource wastage. Control strategies such as the IoT, aerial imagery, machine learning, and artificial intelligence will boost production and prevent soil degradation. This systematic review gave special attention to diabetes and the advancements in food and nutrition needed to prevent or manage diabetes in all its forms. There are two main forms of diabetes mellitus: Type 1 (T1D) and Type 2 (T2D). The loss of beta cells brought on by an autoimmune reaction causes the pancreas to be unable to produce enough insulin, which leads to Type 1 diabetes. A deficiency of insulin could arise as the illness worsens. The most frequent cause is a combination of excessive body weight and inadequate exercise. Currently, 90–95% of patients have Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Age-specific normal blood sugar ranges exist and knowing them is crucial for determining a target blood sugar level that is both healthy and appropriate. The main takeaway is that diet regimens ought to be tailored to the patient’s requirements and should account for their capacity for change. Carbohydrates are the nutrients that have the biggest impact on the rise in blood glucose. In this paper, we have proposed a novel method for glucose monitoring and diet recommendations for diabetic patients using fog computing. A paradigm known as fog computing makes use of the benefits that come from using both cloud and edge devices to support modern computing systems by offering high-quality services, cutting latency, facilitating mobility, supporting multi-tenancy, and many other features. © 2025 by Begell House, Inc.
