Dengue fever is a serious illness that can lead to death in areas where epidemics spread and in third world countries. Early diagnosis is crucial in preventing the severity of the disease and avoiding fatalities. To address this issue, a smart Android application has been developed that uses machine learning algorithms such as the decision tree to diagnose dengue patients. The decision tree algorithm was found to be the most accurate, with an accuracy rate of 93.7%, while other algorithms like close neighborhood had an accuracy rate of 74.29%, naïve bays had an accuracy rate of 93.07%, and SVM had an accuracy rate of 68.32%. The system's response is based on specific data that is entered and processed through the decision tree algorithm. Overall, the development of this smart system can greatly improve early diagnosis of dengue fever and potentially save lives. © 2023 IEEE.

The increasing integration of Cyber-Physical systems (CPS) in critical infrastructure presents unique challenges for ensuring robust cybersecurity. Traditional Intrusion Detection systems (IDS) often struggle with the dynamic, complex nature of CPS environments, making adaptive solutions essential. This paper presents an Adaptive Intrusion Detection system (AIDS) that leverages Reinforcement Learning-Based Autoencoders (RL-AE) to detect and respond to cyber intrusions in CPS environments. The proposed model combines the power of autoencoders for unsupervised anomaly detection with reinforcement learning to continuously adapt and improve detection accuracy. Experimental results on benchmark CPS datasets demonstrate that the RL-AE-based IDS achieves a detection accuracy of 98.3%, a precision rate of 96.8%, and a recall rate of 97.5%, effectively minimizing false positives to 2.4%. The system also demonstrated rapid adaptability, with a convergence time of less than 50 iterations in response to new attack patterns. These results highlight the model's ability to enhance system resilience and promote secure and efficient CPS operations in industrial and critical infrastructure applications. This approach provides a scalable and flexible IDS solution, promoting secure and resilient CPS operations in real-time, high-stakes environments. © 2024 IEEE.

Snowball Effect in Federated Learning: An Approach of Exponentially Expanding Structures for Optimizing the Training Efficiency

Efficient federated learning (FL) in mobile edge networks faces challenges due to energy-consuming on-device training and wireless transmission. Optimizing the neural network structures is an effective approach to achieving energy savings. In this paper, we present a Snowball FL training with expanding neural network structure, which starts with a small-sized submodel and gradually progresses to a full-sized model. To achieve this, we first design the submodel and embedding extraction schemes for fine-grained model structure expansion. We then investigate the joint minimization problem of the global training loss and system-wise energy consumption. After that, we decompose the optimization problem into a long-term model structure expansion subproblem and a single-round local resource allocation subproblem. Specifically, the former subproblem is transformed into a variational calculus problem by leveraging theoretical analysis of the convergence bound. The Euler-Lagrange method is used to derive the solution, where the optimal evolution strategy for the model structure exponentially increases with the global round (i.e., the Snowball effect). Meanwhile, the latter subproblem is solved by convex optimization to acquire the optimal computing frequency and transmission power. Experiments indicate that the proposed framework can save about 50% of energy consumption to achieve on-par accuracy against state-of-the-art algorithms. © 2015 IEEE.

In the proposed model, a novel approach is introduced to discover an optimal machine learning model for food demand prediction. To create an exemplary model, we used twelve different machine learning models to analyse and interpret the historical data. Feature engineering techniques have been deployed to yield better performance. All methods were evaluated using RMSE evaluation metrics to determine the optimal model. Our methodology is one of its kind to reduce the error rate to a marginal level. The novelty of our research is that the root mean square error (RMSE) value for the demand prediction was reduced to 2.61e-16 using linear regression, thus achieving a better performance. The random forest, decision tree, and extreme gradient boosting regression also performed well, producing an RMSE value of 1.42e-9, 1.93e-15, and 4.87e-18 respectively. Phishing attacks are a threat that continuously emphasizes the need for effective detection methods. This paper presents a machine learning detection method that employs a random forest classifier, which is an adaptable algorithm that can handle a variety of feature sets. The dataset used in this work offers a range of features extracted from various URLs, addressing elements such as URL length, domain structure, and keyword presence. We deployed a computational approach for feature engineering. The random forest classifier is employed for both prediction and to assess feature importance, guiding an automated feature selection process. By doing this, the model’s performance is optimized, and the most important features are utilized. The findings of this study show the effectiveness of our method with an impressive accuracy of 98.45% on a test set. The classifier exhibits balanced precision and recall for both phishing and legitimate instances. Moreover, the automated feature selection process improves the interpretation of the model, emphasizing key indicators of phishing attacks. The proposed approach not only produces outstanding outcomes but also offers a flexible and scalable approach to address the dynamically evolving threat landscape of phishing attempts. ©2024 IEEE.

Machine-to-machine (M2M) communication plays a fundamental role in autonomous IoT (Internet of Things)-based infrastructure, a vital part of the fourth industrial revolution. Machine-type communication devices(MTCDs) regularly share extensive data without human intervention while making all types of decisions. Thesedecisions may involve controlling sensitive ventilation systems maintaining uniform temperature, live heartbeatmonitoring, and several different alert systems. Many of these devices simultaneously share data to form anautomated system. The data shared between machine-type communication devices (MTCDs) is prone to risk dueto limited computational power, internal memory, and energy capacity. Therefore, securing the data and devicesbecomes challenging due to factors such as dynamic operational environments, remoteness, harsh conditions,and areas where human physical access is difficult. One of the crucial parts of securing MTCDs and data isauthentication, where each devicemust be verified before data transmission. SeveralM2Mauthentication schemeshave been proposed in the literature, however, the literature lacks a comprehensive overview of current M2Mauthentication techniques and the challenges associated with them. To utilize a suitable authentication schemefor specific scenarios, it is important to understand the challenges associated with it. Therefore, this article fillsthis gap by reviewing the state-of-the-art research on authentication schemes in MTCDs specifically concerningapplication categories, security provisions, and performance efficiency.

Wireless Capsule Endoscopy (WCE) emerged as an innovative and patient-centric approach for non-invasive and painless examination of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. It serves as a pivotal tool in helping medical practitioners in the early detection of anomalies within the intricate domain of the human GI tract. The automated identification of aberrations assumes paramount significance, contributing not only to temporal efficiency but also to timely diagnosis. Within the realm of academic literature, a plethora of Artificial Intelligence (AI) methodologies have been proposed to effectuate the automatic classification, segmentation, and synthesis of anomalies inherent in WCE images. This scholarly endeavor undertakes a comprehensive and meticulous survey, elucidating the spectrum of anomaly classification, summarization, and detection techniques harnessed for computer-Aided Diagnosis (CAD) in the context of WCE images. The survey begins by delineating the methodologies underpinning WCE image classification and video processing. Subsequently, an exhaustive evaluation of techniques for analyzing WCE images is furnished, accompanied by an in-depth exploration of pertinent surveys, in addition to a judicious assessment of their merits and demerits. Furthermore, this study undertakes a rigorous evaluation of prevailing datasets utilized to benchmark the efficacy of various WCE techniques. A Comparative Study for SDN Security Based on Machine Learning

In the past decade, traditional networks have been utilized to transfer data between more than one node. The primary problem related to formal networks is their stable essence, which makes them incapable of meeting the requirements of nodes recently inserted into the network. Thus, formal networks are substituted by a Software Defined Network (SDN). The latter can be utilized to construct a structure for intensive data applications like big data. In this paper, a comparative investigation of Deep Neural Network (DNN) and Machine Learning (ML) techniques that uses various feature selection techniques is undertaken. The ML techniques employed in this approach are decision tree (DT), Naïve Bayes (NB), Support Vector Machine (SVM). The proposed approach is tested experimentally and evaluated using an available NSL–KDD dataset. This dataset includes 41 features and 148,517 samples. To evaluate the techniques, several estimation measurements are calculated. The results prove that DT is the most accurate and effective approach. Furthermore, the evaluation measurements indicate the efficacy of the presented approach compared to earlier studies. © 2023, International Journal of Interactive Mobile Technologies. The widespread adoption of the Internet of Things (IoT) has transformed various sectors globally, making themmore intelligent and connected. However, this advancement comes with challenges related to the effectiveness ofIoT devices. This study is innovative because it paves theway for future researchers to explore errorsthat have not yet been tackled by existing fault detection methods. Significant, the paper, also highlights essentialfactors for selecting and adopting fault detection techniques, as well as the characteristics of datasets and theircorresponding recommended techniques. Additionally, the paper presents amethodical overview of fault detectiontechniques employed in smart devices, including themetrics used for evaluation. Furthermore, the paper examinesthe body of academic work related to sensor faults and fault detection techniques within the domain. This reflectsthe growing inclination and scholarly attention of researchers and academicians toward strategies for fault detectionwithin the realm of the Internet of Things.

Solar Radiation Estimation Based on a New Combined Approach of Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) and Genetic Algorithms (GA) in South Algeria

When designing solar systems and assessing the effectiveness of their many uses,estimating sun irradiance is a crucial first *** study examined three approaches(ANN,GA-ANN,and ANFIS)for estimating daily global solar radiation(GSR)in the south of Algeria:Adrar,Ouargla,and *** proposed hybrid GA-ANN model,based on genetic algorithm-based optimization,was developed to improve the ANN *** GA-ANN and ANFIS models performed better than the standalone ANN-based model,with GA-ANN being better suited for forecasting in all sites,and it performed the best with the best values in the testing phase of Coefficient of Determination(R=0.9005),Mean Absolute Percentage Error(MAPE=8.40%),and Relative Root Mean Square Error(rRMSE=12.56%).Nevertheless,the ANFIS model outperformed the GA-ANN model in forecasting daily GSR,with the best values of indicators when testing the model being R=0.9374,MAPE=7.78%,and rRMSE=10.54%.Generally,we may conclude that the initial ANN stand-alone model performance when forecasting solar radiation has been improved,and the results obtained after injecting the genetic algorithm into the ANN to optimize its weights were *** model can be used to forecast daily GSR in dry climates and other climates and may also be helpful in selecting solar energy system installations and sizes.
