The purpose of this paper is to introduce an novel edge detector using directional wavelet transform and signal registration. Directional wavelet transform decomposes an image into four-dimensional space which augments the image by the scale and directional information. We show the directional information significantly improves edge detection in noisy images in comparison with the classical multiscale edge detector, and enables more reliable edge tracing along an object boundary. Edge detection is based on the modulus maximum principle with an adaptive threshold whose value is calculated via maximum entropy measure. In the service-oriented software environment, interactions between components are highly dependent on the exposed service interfaces. Therefore, designing an appropriate service interface is essential. In this paper, we aim to perform a comparative evaluation on three different approaches to service interface design, i.e. method-centric, message-centric and resource-centric. The evaluation is performed systematically based on a list of selected evaluation criteria. It is expected that the evaluation results may assist software architects to understand the differences between approaches and adopt the approaches wisely in the service interface design.

One of the features of the system is resident participation. The GIS layer structure proposed in this paper nicely supports this user participation. Learning Objects is not a new approach in electronic learning system. It has been applied since more than seven years ago. It can be clearly seen in CanCore project [9] in Canada and the emerging of several standards of Learning Objects by well-known organizations such as IEEE. L3OP (Learning Objects Technology in Object-Oriented Programming ELearning System) project applies the Learning Objects concept into electronic learning system focusing on digitalizing learning styles (especially among higher education students). The electronic learning systems have been used by these students since past few generations and many of them have been enhanced. However, some students still feel that the electronic learning systems are not as effective as they may seem. The reason is varieties of traditional methods of learning styles used by these students, for example, jotting down and highlighting notes cannot be done in the electronic learning systems. For example, some students prefer to use highlight pen or marker to underline the important notes. However, the electronic learning systems can not digitize the styles. The project is only concentrated on visual type of learners. The Learning Objects approach used in this project not only to ensure the organization of the database but also the reusability of the learning content itself.

Automated diagnosis of software faults can improve the efficiency of the debugging process, and is therefore an important technique for the development of dependable software. In this paper we study different similarity coefficients that are applied in the context of a program spectral approach to software fault localization (single programming mistakes). The coefficients studied are taken from the systems diagnosis/automated debugging tools Pinpoint, Tarantula, and AMPLE, and from the molecular biology domain (the Ochiai coefficient). We evaluate these coefficients on the Siemens Suite of benchmark faults, and assess their effectiveness in terms of the position of the actual fault in the probability ranking of fault candidates produced by the diagnosis technique. Our experiments indicate that the Ochiai coefficient consistently outperforms the coefficients currently used by the tools mentioned. In terms of the amount of code that needs to be inspected, this coefficient improves 5% on average over the next best technique, and up to 30% in specific cases

In this paper we propose a smart repeater that consumes less energy and is suitable for driving global interconnections in nanometre technologies. When there is coupling between interconnects, the effective capacitance of a given wire is a function not only of the physical geometry, but also the relative switching pattern described by the bits on the wire in question (the victim) and the adjacent wires (aggressors). The drive strength of a traditional repeater is static, resulting in a spread of the propagation delay, with the repeater strength being essentially too much for every bit pattern other than the worst-case pattern. In the proposed SMART repeater, the drive strength is dynamically altered depending on the relative bit pattern, by partitioning it into a Main Driver and Assistant Driver. For a higher effective load capacitance both drivers switch, while for a lower effective capacitance the assistant driver is quiet. By disconnecting part of the repeater when it is not needed, the total load capacitance to the previous stage is reduced, resulting in reduced energy consumption for those instances. It is shown that the potential average saving in energy can be as much 15% with a 18% jitter reduction over a traditional repeater for typical global wire lengths in nanometre technologies. Negotiation involves the execution of rules and interaction among the agents toward the agreement, objective or outcomes. It is a complex process and need careful study and design. This paper focuses on experience sharing under the development of negotiation approach in a booking application (e.g. Smart Lecture Theatre). It consists of the conceptual ideal of negotiation as well as the methodology for life cycle development. The development life cycle has been structured into five phases: location determination, interaction protocol design, autonomy determination, agent binding and agent implementation. A simple negotiation application has been experimented for a simple argumentation negotiation application and an intelligent-based argumentation negotiation application.
