Biometric technologies have been widely adopted in various commercial products, ranging from security systems to personal devices, due to their exceptional reliability and user-friendliness. Among these, palmprint biometrics has gained increasing attention for its advantages, such as ease of use, a larger surface area, and the ability to capture more features compared to other biometric methods. A typical palmprint biometric system involves five key stages: (a) Image Acquisition, (b) Hand Segmentation, (c) Pattern Generation, (d) Feature Extraction, and (e) Verification/Identification. The overall success of the system depends on the effectiveness of each stage, with hand segmentation being crucial for identifying the most relevant features for accurate verification. This study aims to achieve high-accuracy biometric recognition by segmenting hands from images captured in uncontrolled environments with complex backgrounds. Accuracy (ACC), Intersection over Union (IoU), F1-Score, and Dice Coefficient are the four critical metrics used to assess the performance of segmentation techniques. The findings demonstrate that the U-Net + ViT and MA-Net + ResNet34 techniques outperform traditional auto-encoder methods in both quantitative performance metrics and visual analysis, leading to significantly improved hand segmentation for biometric systems.

The usage of online entertainment has increased dramatically after some time with the enhancement of the Internet and has turned into the most compelling systems administration stage in this century. Notwithstanding, the upgrade of a social network regularly makes adverse consequences on society that add to two or three terrible peculiarities, for example, online maltreatment, badgering cyberbullying, cybercrime, and internet savaging. Cyberbullying habitually prompts genuine mental and actual misery, especially for ladies and kids, and even occasionally make them to use self-destruction methods. This study presents a significant improvement in the detection and diagnosis of clinically significant prostate cancer (csPCa) in bi-parametric magnetic resonance imaging (bpMRI) by adapting the nnU-Net framework. We address the inherent limitations of traditional imaging analysis techniques by modifying the loss function used in nnU-Net, replacing the default combination of Cross-Entropy and soft Dice loss with a novel integration of Cross-Entropy loss and Focal loss. This modification targets class imbalance and enhances the detection sensitivity for less represented, clinically significant lesions, which are crucial for effective csPCa management while minimizing false diagnosis. Employing a semi-supervised learning approach, the modified nnU-Net was trained and validated on the PI-CAI (Prostate Imaging: Cancer AI) Public Training dataset (1500 cases), the current benchmark dataset for csPCa detection and diagnosis. It was also tested on the PI-CAI Hidden Testing cohort dataset consisting of 100 unseen cases. These datasets offer a comprehensive and diverse collection of prostate MRI exams, providing a robust foundation for model training and testing. We conducted a rigorous 5-fold cross-validation to ensure the robustness and reproducibility of our findings. The model's performance was evaluated with Average Precision (AP) at the lesion level and Area Under the Receiver Operating Characteristics curve (AUROC) at the patient level. Our model with AUROC and AP of 0.824 and 0.603 respectively on the Hidden Tuning cohort, outperformed the state-of-the-art U-Net, nnDetection models, and other nnU-Net variants. This work contributes to ongoing efforts to refine diagnostic tools in medical imaging, offering the potential for more accurate and timely prostate cancer screenings.

Medical errors contribute significantly to morbidity and mortality, emphasizing the critical role of Clinical Guidelines (GLs) in patient care. Automating GL application can enhance GL adherence, improve patient outcomes, and reduce costs. However, several barriers exist to GL implementation and real-time automated support. Challenges include creating a formalized, machine-comprehensible GL representation, and an episodic decision-support system for sporadic treatment advice. This system must accommodate the non-continuous nature of care delivery, including partial actions or partially met treatment goals. We describe the design and implementation of an episodic GL-based clinical decision support system and its retrospective technical evaluation using patient records from a geriatric center. Initial evaluation scores of the e-Picard system were promising, with a mean 94% correctness and 90% completeness based on 50 random pressure ulcer patients. Errors were mainly due to knowledge specification, algorithmic issues, and missing data. Post-corrections, scores improved to 100% correctness and a mean 97% completeness, with missing data still affecting completeness. The results validate the system's capability to assess guideline adherence and provide quality recommendations. Despite initial limitations, we have demonstrated the feasibility of providing, through the e-Picard episodic algorithm, realistic medical decision-making support for noncontinuous, intermittent consultations. © 2024 The Authors.

Nowadays the introduction of artificial intelligence technologies into human life is at the peak of its history, including natural language processing (NLP). Consequently, it is becoming more necessary than ever to find new effective solutions for data labeling, on which machine models will be trained and appropriate algorithms will be built. In this paper, we describe the process of sentiment analysis (SA), as well as review approaches at all stages of analysis, publicly available datasets and produced software solutions within the Russian and foreign markets. In addition, we have traced the line of development of approaches for evaluating Russian-language texts in order to take into account the latest and most effective solutions in future work.

Applying evidence-based medicine prevents medical errors highlighting the need for applying Clinical Guidelines (CGs) to improve patient care by nurses. However, nurses often face challenges in utilizing CGs due to patient-specific needs. Developing a Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS) can provide real-time context-sensitive CG-based recommendations. Therefore, there is a need to acquire and represent CGs in a machine-applicable manner. Also, there is a need to be able to provide recommendations episodically, only when requested, and not continuously, and to assess previous partial performance of evidence-based actions on a continuous scale. This study evaluated the feasibility of acquiring and representing major nursing CGs, in a machine-applicable manner for episodic use. Using data from an Israeli geriatric center, the results suggest that an episodic CDSS effectively supports the application of formalized nursing knowledge. © 2024 The Authors.

Distributed Denial of Service, known as DDoS attacks, significantly compromise network security and availability. Certain DDoS detection methods utilize machine learning techniques, whereas others are based on statistical techniques. Therefore, this study provides a classification of the currently available DDoS detection techniques based on these two methodologies, strengths, and limitations. In addition, a comparative study of some DDoS detection techniques proposed in recent years is presented. We obtained similar results in related studies using different datasets. Thus, the compared DDoS techniques were dataset-independent. Finally, this study highlights areas for further research and improvement.

As anxiety becomes increasingly prevalent among youths especially university students, early prevention via anxiety disorder profiling is crucial. Nevertheless, most screening tools to date are not automated, labour-intensive and time-consuming. Mental health detection in online social networks (OSNs) using artificial intelligence (AI) can provide means for capturing overlooked behavioural attributes, but few are centred around anxiety detection. Internet of Things (IoT)’s increasing popularity enables bio-signals monitoring to aid in mental health care. However, minimum research has been devoted to IoT-based assistive technologies for anxiety, which currently are only used by individuals already diagnosed and actively monitored. This study proposes a novel approach to anticipatory anxiety detection for Malaysian university students aged between 18 and 25 inclusive as an early notification system using AI and IoT for bilingual Malay and English tweets and vital signs analysis respectively. Our result shows that Logistic Regression with Bag-of-Words (BoW) is the overall best performing model with 81.06% accuracy. The Arduino smartwatch sensor readings from the MAX30102 pulse oximeter sensor are used to determine different body conditions using a rule-based approach. The comparison test result between the prototype and conventional measuring devices shows the prototype’s ability to accurately distinguish vital signs with a relatively low Mean Absolute Percent Error (MAPE) rate of 10.92% and 1.51% for pulse rate and temperature respectively. Together, our proof-of-concept results indicate the potential of AI and IoT in deriving new measures of anxiety, by analysing social data combined with bio-signals monitoring to alert users regarding their anxiety state. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Employing robots in badminton training contributes to a more accurate analysis of an athlete's movements and helps avoid injuries. Shuttlecock detection during the flying stage is a critical component of the badminton robot design. However, previous shuttlecock localization methods were unable to detect shuttlecock quickly and accurately in embedded device-based badminton robots, given scale variations, few extractable features, occlusion, and device limitation. In this paper, a deep learning-based shuttlecock localization method is proposed. First, an indoor shuttlecock dataset including 9548 shuttlecock images of various angles and scenes was constructed. Then a shuttlecock detection method YOLO-BTM is proposed, which is based on YOLOv4-Tiny. We proposed a new convolution block to replace the cross-stage partially block in the backbone, to improve the detection speed. To improve the network's ability to detect small objects, the efficient channel attention block is introduced in feature fusion. Finally, a comparative experiment on the accuracy of the method and the detection speed was conducted. The results show that the proposed YOLO-BTM has better performance in detection speed and accuracy compared to the existing state-of-the-art object detection methods on our own shuttlecock dataset. Our method enables real-time, accurate localization of shuttlecock and has the potential to be used in other embedded device based sports robots.

Web-blogging sites such as Twitter and Facebook are heavily influenced by emotions,sentiments,and data in the modern ***,a widely used microblogging site where individuals share their thoughts in the form of tweets,has become a major source for sentiment *** recent years,there has been a significant increase in demand for sentiment analysis to identify and classify opinions or expressions in text or *** or expressions of people about a particular topic,situation,person,or product can be identified from sentences and divided into three categories:positive for good,negative for bad,and neutral for mixed or confusing *** process of analyzing changes in sentiment and the combination of these categories is known as“sentiment analysis.”In this study,sentiment analysis was performed on a dataset of 90,000 tweets using both deep learning and machine learning *** deep learning-based model long-short-term memory(LSTM)performed better than machine learning *** short-term memory achieved 87%accuracy,and the support vector machine(SVM)classifier achieved slightly worse results than LSTM at 86%.The study also tested binary classes of positive and negative,where LSTM and SVM both achieved 90%accuracy.
