Quantum computing systems rely on the principles of quantum mechanics to perform a multitude of computationally challenging tasks more efficiently than their classical counterparts. The architecture of software-intensive systems can empower architects who can leverage architecture-centric processes, practices, description languages, etc., to model, develop, and evolve quantum computing software (quantum software for short) at higher abstraction levels. We conducted a systematic literature review (SLR) to investigate (i) architectural process, (ii) modeling notations, (iii) architecture design patterns, (iv) tool support, and (iv) challenging factors for quantum software architecture. Results of the SLR indicate that quantum software represents a new genre of software-intensive systems;however, existing processes and notations can be tailored to derive the architecting activities and develop modeling languages for quantum software. Quantum bits (Qubits) mapped to Quantum gates (Qugates) can be represented as architectural components and connectors that implement quantum software. Tool-chains can incorporate reusable knowledge and human roles (e.g., quantum domain engineers, quantum code developers) to automate and customize the architectural process. Results of this SLR can facilitate researchers and practitioners to develop new hypotheses to be tested, derive reference architectures, and leverage architecture-centric principles and practices to engineer emerging and next generations of quantum software. © 2022, The Authors. The performance of a battery pack is greatly affected by an imbalance between the cells. Cell balancing is a very important criterion for Battery Management System (BMS) to operate properly. This paper presents the various cell balancing topologies which have been presented by various researchers in the past years. A novel topology has also been discussed, which improves the overall efficiency of the components being used. Various comparison parameters such as Control, Speed, Efficiency, Power Effects, Manufacturability, Size, and Cost have been considered.

The goal of future quantum networks is to enable new internet applications that are impossible to achieve using solely classical communication[1, 2, 3]. Up to now, demonstrations of quantum network applications[4, 5, 6] and functionalities[7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12] on quantum processors have been performed in ad-hoc software that was specific to the experimental setup, programmed to perform one single task (the application experiment) directly into low-level control devices using expertise in experimental physics. Here, we report on the design and implementation of the first architecture capable of executing quantum network applications on quantum processors in platform-independent high-level software. We demonstrate the architecture’s capability to execute applications in high-level software, by implementing it as a quantum network operating system – QNodeOS – and executing test programs including a delegated computation from a client to a server[13] on two quantum network nodes based on nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in diamond[14, 15]. We show how our architecture allows us to maximize the use of quantum network hardware, by multitasking different applications on a quantum network for the first time. Our architecture can be used to execute programs on any quantum processor platform corresponding to our system model, which we illustrate by demonstrating an additional driver for QNodeOS for a trapped-ion quantum network node based on a single 40Ca+atom[16]. Our architecture lays the groundwork for computer science research in the domain of quantum network programming, and paves the way for the development of software that can bring quantum network technology to society. Nowadays natural Language Processing (NLP) is an important tool for most people’s daily life routines, ranging from understating speech, translation, name entity recognition (ENR), and text categorizing, to the generative text models such as ChatGPT. Due to existing big data and consequently big corpora for the most usable languages including English, Spanish, Turkish, Persia, and many more, these applications have been utilized accurately. However, the Kurdish language still needs more corpora and big datasets to be included in the NLP applications. This is because the Kurdish language has a rich linguistic structure, varied dialects, and a poor dataset, which poses unique challenges for Kurdish NLP (KNLP) application development. While several types of research have been conducted in KNLP for various applications, the Kurdish ENR (KNER) remained a challenge for most of the KNLP applications including text analysis and text classification. In this work, we address this limitation by proposing a methodology for fine-tuning the pre-trained RoBERTa model for KNER1. To this end, first, a Kurdish corpus is created, followed by designing a modified model architecture, and the training procedures are implemented. To evaluate the trained model, a set of experiments is conducted to show the performance of the KNER model using different tokenization methods and trained models. The experimental results showed that fine-tuned RoBERTa with sentence-piece tokenization method substantially improves KNER performance by 12.8% (F1-score improvement) in comparison to traditional models and consequently establishes a new benchmark for KNLP. © 2024, CC BY.

Android malware category and family detection and identification using machine learning

Android malware is one of the most dangerous threats on the internet, and it's been on the rise for several years. Despite significant efforts in detecting and classifying android malware from innocuous android applications, there is still a long way to go. As a result, there is a need to provide a basic understanding of the behavior displayed by the most common Android malware categories and families. Each Android malware family and category has a distinct objective. As a result, it has impacted every corporate area, including healthcare, banking, transportation, government, and e-commerce. In this paper, we presented two machine-learning approaches for Dynamic Analysis of Android Malware: one for detecting and identifying Android Malware Categories and the other for detecting and identifying Android Malware Families, which was accomplished by analyzing a massive malware dataset with 14 prominent malware categories and 180 prominent malware families of CCCS-CICAndMal2020 dataset on Dynamic Layers. Our approach achieves in Android Malware Category detection more than 96 % accurate and achieves in Android Malware Family detection more than 99% accurate. Our approach provides a method for high-accuracy Dynamic Analysis of Android Malware while also shortening the time required to analyze smartphone malware. © 2021, CC BY-NC-ND.

To date, there are much increasing trends on adopting parameter free meta-heuristic algorithms for solving general optimization problems. With parameter free algorithms, there are no parameter controls for tuning. As such, the adoption of parameter free meta-heuristic algorithms is often straightforward. On the negative note, exploration (i.e. roaming the search space thoroughly) and exploitation (i.e. manipulating the current known best neighbor) are pre-set. As the search spaces are problem dependent, any pre-set exploration and exploitation can lead to entrapment in local optima. In this paper, we investigate the use of Lévy flight to enhance the exploration of a parameter free meta-heuristic algorithm, called Modified Symbiotic Organism Search Algorithm (MSOS), via its population initialization. Our experimentations involving the software module clustering problems have been encouraging, as MSOS gives competitive results against existing selected parameter free meta-heuristic algorithms. For all the given module clustering problems, MSOS generates overall best mean results. © 2020, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

The paper deals with insufficient unification of computational process transformation techniques and their mapping on design components in hardware and software domains. To address this issue, formulation of generic transformation approach, “strategy of computational process synthesis” (SCPS), is proposed. Inspired by composability of management mechanisms in software domain, custom hardware microarchitecture mechanisms are proposed to implement as synthesizable and programmable execution kernels that generate hardware in RTL or HLS form. Experimental implementation of ActiveCore framework and demo SoC designs based on this approach showed considerable improvement of hardware projects organization, while preserving competitiveness of the designs.

The research addresses implementation of custom internal mechanisms of computational process management abstractly from application functionality in hardware design. Explicit allocation of “microarchitectural middleware” design level is proposed. The key design components used at this level are custom programmable and synthesizable execution kernels — “micro-language” IP (MLIP) cores. The supporting framework is being developed by the authors. Experimental designing based on MLIP approach has demonstrated significant (up to 63%) code reusability for hardware cores that do not have any common structural submodules but do share custom internal scheduling and synchronization mechanisms that are cross-cutting relative to the hardware cores structure.

The agriculture industry is one of the most significant sources of foreign exchange and employment in the Sri Lankan market. Therefore, small crops play a crucial role in ensuring the food security of the population as they are integral components of Sri Lankan cuisine. However, industry experts have identified inefficient disease and pest management as a hindrance to production. This issue requires immediate attention and proper action, which can be effectively addressed through the utilization of ICT technologies. Consequently, this research paper proposes a smart system that aims to assist farmers and agriculture professionals by providing them with farmer education, disease and infestation management tools, as well as progression level calculations. The implementation of this system aims to uplift the agriculture industry in Sri Lanka. The developed ‘AI-based mobile application system for Brinjal Diseases,’ which is based on analyzing the eating patterns of leafhopper damage, presents an innovative approach to identify the most significant threats to Brinjal, specifically focusing on leafhopper damage. This proposed system effectively informs various stakeholders, including the Area Agricultural Research Officer, Seed Certification and Plant Protection Center (SCPPC), Agricultural Service Center, Office of the Register of Pesticides (ROP), Plant Protection Service (PPS), as well as farmers, regarding the dispersion and prevention of brinjal diseases and pest infections.

Indoor positioning is a thriving research area, which is slowly gaining market momentum. Its applications are mostly customized, ad hoc installations;ubiquitous applications analogous to Global Navigation Satellite System for outdoors are not available because of the lack of generic platforms, widely accepted standards and interoperability protocols. In this context, the indoor positioning and indoor navigation (IPIN) competition is the only long-term, technically sound initiative to monitor the state of the art of real systems by measuring their performance in a realistic environment. Most competing systems are pedestrian-oriented and based on the use of smartphones, but several competing tracks were set up, enabling comparison of an array of technologies. The two IPIN competitions described here include only off-site tracks. In contrast with on-site tracks where competitors bring their systems on-site - which were impossible to organize during 2021 and 2022 - in off-site tracks competitors download prerecorded data from multiple sensors and process them using the EvaalAPI, a real-time, web-based emulation interface. As usual with IPIN competitions, tracks were compliant with the EvAAL framework, ensuring consistency of the measurement procedure and reliability of results. The main contribution of this work is to show a compilation of possible indoor positioning scenarios and different indoor positioning solutions to the same problem. © 2023 CCBY.
