Characteristics in the user model can be acquired and maintained in several ways, namely by means of implicit or explicit feedback, observation of user's actions, log analysis, etc. We use analysis of the content that is presented to a user. We assume that comparing documents and analyzing their common and different aspects can lead to information about user's interests. We work in the Semantic Web environment where ontologies are used as a mean for content representation. We proposed a recursive method to evaluate similarity of ontological concepts. But computed similarities do not take into account user's individuality, i.e. the same results are computed for each user. User's perception of the similarity measure is subjective. Therefore, we extend the method to compute similarity with regard to the user.

The mobile communication market has grown rapidly over the past 10 years, but the market may reach saturation in the foreseeable future. More flexible mobile networks able to meet various user demands and create new market openings are needed for further growth. Heterogeneous networks are more suitable than homogeneous networks for meeting a wide variety of user demands. There are two types of heterogeneous network: a closed-type whose network resources are deployed and operated by communication carriers, and an open-type whose network resources would be deployed not only by existing operators but also by companies, universities and so on. It will be easy for newcomers to enter mobile businesses in an open heterogeneous mobile network, so many innovative services are likely to be provided through cooperation between various companies or organizations. This paper proposes revised architectures for TISPAN-NGN which corresponds to heterogeneous networks and open mobile markets, and presents new business models.

This paper presents a new design to manage transaction and replication for distributed systems. First, we recall the binary vote assignment grid (BVAG) model that imposes neighbours binary vote assignment to its logical grid structure on replicated data copies. Based on this model, we extend our work to design the distributed transaction semantic in order to manage BVAG transaction both in normal and failure cases. We present an implementation of the system. The proposed distributed transaction semantic shows that the system preserves the data consistency and support advance fault-tolerant through synchronization approach.

In this paper, we propose the basic framework of point- wise topological logic on completely distributive lattices and explore approximate reasoning in it. The logic of this paper is based on pointwise characterization, therefore the pointwise conception is pervasive. We explore approximate reasoning in abstract logical framework Fl on completely distributive lattice L. We propose the structure of point- wise topological logic F TL , the structure of matching function sigma. and the structure of matching neighborhood group. We investigate approximate reasoning in pointwise topological logic F TL with matching function sigma, develop pointwise topological algorithm of simple approximate reasoning, introduce the essential characteristics of this scheme.

Inspired by Weber's Law, this paper proposes a simple, yet very powerful and robust local descriptor, Weber Local Descriptor (WLD). It is based on the fact that human perception of a pattern depends on not only the change of a stimulus (such as sound, lighting, et al.) but also the original intensity of the stimulus. Specifically, WLD consists of two components: its differential excitation and orientation. A differential excitation is a function of the ratio between two terms: One is the relative intensity differences of its neighbors against a current pixel;the other is the intensity of the current pixel. An orientation is the gradient orientation of the current pixel. For a given image, we use the differential excitation and the orientation components to construct a concatenated WLD histogram feature. Experimental results on Brodatz textures show that WLD impressively outperforms the other classical descriptors (e.g., Gabor). Especially, experimental results on face detection show a promising performance. Although we train only one classifier based on WLD features, the classifier obtains a comparable performance to state-of-the-art methods on MIT+CMU frontal face test set, AR face dataset and CMU profile test set.

IEEE P1900.4 is an emerging standard for optimized radio resource utilization where cognitive radio technologies are used for efficient spectrum utilization. In this paper, we design and implement a cognitive wireless network system based on open documents of IEEE P1900.4, and evaluate its performance using UDP streaming and HTTP download. Our experiments show interesting results that total network throughput in the HDP streaming is improved by 30% although some of individual terminals can not necessarily obtain better throughput. Also, it is shown that performance in the HTTP download becomes worse by up to about 40% as the number of handover increases due to the TCP window control. Our analysis is expected to point out importance of higher layer coordination with lower layers for end-to-end performance improvements in cognitive wireless networks.

This article gives a capsule view of research on rough set theory and applications ongoing at universities and laboratories in China. Included in this capsule view of rough set research is a brief description of the following things: Chinese research groups on rough set with their URLs for web pages, names of principal researchers (supervisors), numbers of graduate students, and topics being investigated. Statistical summaries showing the growth in the research on rough set theory and application in China are included. In addition, an introduction summarizing the research interests of Chinese researchers is included in this article. In this panel, we propose to figure out how requirements engineering and interaction design can be usefully combined. In particular, some people argue that scenarios/ use cases should be concrete, as in story-telling. Others argue for use of "essential" use cases as a methodological approach to interaction and user-interface design. Somewhat in the middle, it is argued that use cases should help acquiring the requirements in the first place. What should the practitioner believe and, in particular, do, in order to develop useful and usable software and systems? software development and interaction design require different skills and different methods and are typically done by different people. Still, scenario-based design is proposed for several activities relevant for both tasks, such as requirements elicitation, software design, and interaction design. Symbolic modeling in this spirit is actually common to various fields. However, scenario-based approaches vary, especially with regard to their use, e.g., employing abstract use cases or integrating scenarios with functions and goals in a systematic design process. So, the key issue to be raised at the panel is how to combine different approaches, e.g., in scenario-based development, so that the interaction design as well as the development of the user interface and of the software internally result in an overall useful and useable system.

This paper presents a wireless intelligent incontinence management system being developed for the University Malaya Medical Center (UMMC) that utilizes ldquosmartrdquo diapers to discreetly monitor and estimate wetness events, detect other relevant clinical conditions and alert staff by transmitting information via wireless technology to an intelligent central management system. We describe the hardware and software modules of the system and give results conducted on diaper experiments and the transmission range of the wireless technology.
