Light field(LF)cameras record multiple perspectives by a sparse sampling of real scenes,and these perspectives provide complementary *** information is beneficial to LF super-resolution(LFSR).Compared with traditional single-image super-resolution,LF can exploit parallax structure and perspective correlation among different LF ***,the performance of existing methods are limited as they fail to deeply explore the complementary information across LF *** this paper,we propose a novel network,called the light field complementary-view feature attention network(LF-CFANet),to improve LFSR by dynamically learning the complementary information in LF ***,we design a residual complementary-view spatial and channel attention module(RCSCAM)to effectively interact with complementary information between complementary ***,RCSCAM captures the relationships between different channels,and it is able to generate informative features for reconstructing LF images while ignoring redundant ***,a maximum-difference information supplementary branch(MDISB)is used to supplement information from the maximum-difference angular positions based on the geometric structure of LF *** branch also can guide the process of *** results on both synthetic and real-world datasets demonstrate the superiority of our *** proposed LF-CFANet has a more advanced reconstruction performance that displays faithful details with higher SR accuracy than state-of-the-art methods.

Text data have an important place in our daily life. A huge amount of text data is generated everyday. As a result, automation becomes necessary to handle these large text data. Recently, we are witnessing important developments with the adaptation of new approaches in text processing. Attention mechanisms and transformers are emerging as methods with significant potential for text processing. In this study, we introduced a bidirectional transformer (BiTransformer) constructed using two transformer encoder blocks that utilize bidirectional position encoding to take into account the forward and backward position information of text data. We also created models to evaluate the contribution of attention mechanisms to the classification process. Four models, including long short term memory, attention, transformer, and BiTransformer, were used to conduct experiments on a large Turkish text dataset consisting of 30 categories. The effect of using pretrained embedding on models was also investigated. Experimental results show that the classification models using transformer and attention give promising results compared with classical deep learning models. We observed that the BiTransformer we proposed showed superior performance in text classification. © 2021 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

The automatic detection of noisy channels in surface Electromyogram(sEMG)signals,at the time of recording,is very critical in making a noise-free EMG *** an EMG signal contaminated by high-level noise is recorded,then it will be useless and can’t be used for any healthcare *** this research work,a new machine learning-based paradigm is proposed to automate the detection of low-level and high-level noises occurring in different channels of high density and multi-channel sEMG signals.A modiﬁed version of mel fre-quency cepstral coefﬁcients(mMFCC)is proposed for the extraction of features from sEMG channels along with other statistical parameters i-e complexity coef-ﬁcient,hurst exponent,and root mean *** state-of-the-art classiﬁers such as Support Vector Machine(SVM),Ensemble Bagged Trees,Ensemble Sub-space Discriminant,and Logistic Regression are used to automatically identify an EMG channel either bad or good based on these extracted ***-based analyses of these classiﬁers have also been considered based on total classi-ﬁcation accuracy,prediction speed(observations/sec),and processing *** proposed method is tested on 320 simulated EMG channels as well as 640 experi-mental EMG *** is used as our main classiﬁer for the detection of noisy channels which gives a total classiﬁcation accuracy of 99.4%for simulated EMG channels whereas accuracy of 98.9%is achieved for experimental EMG channels.

Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are crucial elements of the innate immune system;and they are effective against bacteria that cause several diseases. These peptides are investigated as potential alternatives of antibiotics to treat infections. Since wet lab experiments are expensive and time-consuming, computational methods become crucial in this field. In this study, we suggest a computational technique for AMP prediction using deep neural networks (DNN). We trained a DNN classifier using physicochemical features that include a sequential model;and evaluated the model with 10-fold cross-validation on a benchmark dataset. We compared our method with other machine learning approaches and demonstrated that the method we developed generates higher performance (accuracy: 92%, precision: 92%, recall: 93%, f1: 93%, AUC: 98%). In our experiments, we have realized that there is a strong positive correlation between the ‘Normalized Hydrophobic Moment’ feature and ‘Angle Subtended by the Hydrophobic Residues’ feature;and strong negative correlations between ‘Normalized Hydrophobicity’ feature and ‘Disordered Conformation Propensity’ feature, and between ‘Amphilicity Index’ - ‘Disordered Conformation Propensity’ features. We believe that the approach we proposed could guide further experimental studies and could facilitate the prediction of other types of AMPs having anticancer, antivirus, antiparasitic activities. © 2023 by SCITEPRESS – Science and Technology Publications, Lda.

In recent years, great advances in technology have led to the popularisation of the Internet of Things (IoT) concept. Especially in the field of smart health, IoT has become one of the most preferred areas for researchers and practitioners thanks to the continuous monitoring of patient's health. The use of IoT sensor networks in healthcare plays an important role in services such as patient monitoring, chronic disease control and emergency response. This study aims to analyse the data obtained from IoT devices with machine learning (ML) algorithms using acceleration data of Parkinson's patients. Parkinson's disease is a chronic disease that greatly reduces the quality of life by affecting the nervous system and impairing motor skills. Analysing the movement states of Parkinson's patients is very important in terms of better understanding the disease and developing treatment methods. In this study, Decision Trees (DT), Lightweight Gradient Boosting Machine (LGBM) and Random Forest (RF) algorithms were used to predict freezing states in the data obtained with acceleration sensors of Parkinson's patients and LGBM showed the highest performance with %98 accuracy. LIME explainable artificial intelligence algorithm was used to determine the factors that most affect the model performance. This study demonstrates the potential benefits of integrating IoT and ML technologies to improve the quality of life of Parkinson's patients and increase the effectiveness of healthcare services. © The Institution of engineering & Technology 2024.

Source code comments play a critical role in software development by facilitating issue resolution and reducing maintenance time and cost. However, the impact of code comments, particularly those aiding program comprehension, on expediting issue resolution remains insufficiently explored. This study investigates the impact of code comments on issue resolution time for issues related to pulling requests involving code maintenance. To this end, ten of the most popular Java repositories on GitHub were selected, and closed pull request-related issues were identified using a specific criterion. Comments were then extracted from classes modified by the pull requests, and a trained BERT model was utilized to classify them according to their usefulness. The percentage of comments relative to code size, the percentage of useful comments relative to all comments, and the average issue resolution time were computed and examined for correlations. The results indicate a negative correlation (-0.68) between the percentage of code comments in modified classes and the average issue resolution time. A stronger negative correlation (-0.73) was found between the percentage of useful code comments to all comments in modified classes and the average issue resolution time per class. These findings demonstrate that code with more comments, particularly useful ones, leads to faster issue resolution. This serves as a basis for further research into the impact of various fine-grained comment types on issue resolution time in different programming languages. Also, it can assist developers in writing more effective comments that accelerate bug-fixing and reduce software maintenance efforts. © 2023 IEEE.

In gamma ray imaging for nuclear medicine, coded aperture is used to improve sensitivity. one of the main reconstructing methods is inverse filtering (deconvolution), where the recorded image is cross-correlated with periodic inverse filter of coded array. The reconstruction is free of coding noise for arbitrary array. However, amplification of quantum noise affect the reconstructed image. Although it is improved by Wiener filtering, the major problem is small terms in the spectral distribution of coded masks. Statistically and experimentally pinhole arrays have at least one term which is zero, resulting unacceptably noisy reconstruction. In our previous research we presented new approach of variable coded aperture (VCA) design for far and near field imaging applications [1-4]. The imaging system is based on time multiplexing method using variable multi pinhole array. The unique variable design enables to overcome the spatial frequencies cutoff and small terms in the Fourier transform exists in static multi pinhole array. The overall pinholes positions are designed to avoid spatial frequencies loss. However, traces of duplications can still be detected in reconstruction using Wiener filtering. Furthermore, since coded aperture blocks most of the photons that enter the detector, the dynamic range of the image is limited, thus leading to low contrast image and inadequate colors gamut. © 2023 IEEE.

Based on the time of writing, Arabic poems are divided into eras or periods. Each era has its poetic properties that characterize its poems. The classification of poems and literary texts into eras using conventional Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques and computerized methods is a challenging task. To overcome this problem, this paper uses a modified version of the Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT) model to classify Arabic poems. The proposed model was modified to better comprehend and classify the rich grammatical and stylistic features of Arabic poetry. We modified the Multilingual Arabic variants of BERT (MARBERT) by adding pooling, dropout, and classification layers and training it on a large corpus of Arabic poetry from different genres. Additionally, linguistic and rhyme features were employed to enhance the performance. The objective of this method is to offer the model a sophisticated comprehension of the theme and poetry phrases in Arabic poems. The suggested model performs more effectively in categorizing Arabic poetry with an accuracy of 86.82%. The findings illustrated that Arabic literary text analysis and classification can be automated and emphasized the significance of language-specific optimization for transformer-based models designed to tackle challenging categorization of textual data.

Numerous diverse learning materials can be found on e-learning sites. Students in today's e-learning platforms invest a lot of time and energy in locating pertinent learning materials. The student's actual requirements must be taken into account based on a variety of characteristics, including choices, expertise, and learning style. Education must be pertinent to the necessary concept's environment. This study aims to develop an efficient approach for detecting e-learning style and then customizing the e-learning contents to match that style, using machine learning (ML) algorithms to enhance personalization in e-learning. The blended ensemble method combined with the XGBoost meta-learning approach produced the most prominent results for enhancing e-learning style, with an accuracy of 97.6%. Further, the textual material of the e-files is altered using various natural language processing (NLP) approaches. The spaCy NLP-oriented labeled entity identification (LEI) algorithm achieves a 94.2% F1 value and a 0.92 precise match ratio while color-coded textual production of 10 e-files with 790 different phrases. These alterations are intended to suit students' tastes, resulting in an additional personalized and interactive teaching encounter. © 2025 IEEE.

In-class teaching not only concentrates on lecture content delivery but also on maintaining strong mutuality between lecturer-students and student-student. Online lectures are gaining popularity due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the learning-teaching process has become ineffective because existing video conferencing solutions are not intended for academic purposes. This research was conducted to identify the pain points of online education and develop an enhanced software solution. A user survey confirmed that an isolated environment tends to diminish attentiveness during online lectures. Also, it is difficult for teachers to observe the attentiveness of all the students. As a solution, student attentiveness was measured using their facial expressions and collected data shown to lecturers through a virtual student behavioural environment. The physical separation causes students to feel isolated during lectures, which can negatively affect their academic development and social and psychological development. The developed application also provides a virtual group study environment as a feature. According to the results gathered in the user acceptance testing phase, it was found that the attention detection feature helps students keep their attention at a significant level. Further, 9 out of 10 teachers who participated in the testing acknowledged that the simulated student behavioural view could provide a more immersive experience. 71% of students preferred the new collaborative virtual environment, and students further elaborated that the virtual environment was more likely the physical group studies. 72% of students mentioned that the collaborative group study tool helped eliminate isolation during group studies. © 2022 IEEE.
