Artificial intelligence-driven Chatbots, especially large language models (LLMs) like GPT-4, represent significant progress in digital education. These models excel in mimicking human-like text and transforming learning and teaching methods. This study examines the development, application, and impact of LLMs in education. It highlights their role in automating instructional tasks and promoting personalized learning experiences. Despite integration concerns and ethical debates, LLMs showcase the potential of AI to improve educational practices. Our research concludes that LLMs offer transformative opportunities for education. However, their incorporation requires careful ethical considerations, data privacy measures, and a balance between human educators and AI technologies. The findings suggest strategies for integrating LLMs into educational frameworks to enhance learning outcomes while preserving educational integrity. © The Author(s) 2025.

The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic revealed the criticality of timely intervention in a situation exacerbated by a shortage in medical staff and equipment. Pain-level screening is the initial step toward identifying the severity of patient conditions. Automatic recognition of state and feelings help in identifying patient symptoms to take immediate adequate action and providing a patient-centric medical plan tailored to a patient's state. In this paper, we propose a framework for pain-level detection for deployment in the United Arab Emirates and assess its performance using the most used approaches in the literature. Our results show that a deployment of a pain-level deep learning detection framework is promising in identifying the pain level accurately. © 2023 Elsevier B.V.. All rights reserved.

Context-aware fire detection is a significant task in the era of new urban monitoring. Severe damage might result from fire events. To minimize the occurrence of these events, timely detection of fire accidents is necessary. Various machinelearning and deep learning methods are used for fire detection. Most of them do not focus on the extent of the fire or the damage it causes. All these methods need the detection of the criticality of the fire event. This work proposes an identification system based on Large Vision Models (LVMs) for fire detection. We proposed an intelligent criticality-aware fire detection system that can detect fire and its varying scales from small to large and generate alarming alerts accordingly. The model integrates advanced computer vision techniques with LVMs to explain the hidden context in a textual format. The system is tested on realtime data collected from surveillance cameras and achieves an accuracy of 86.67 % in correctly identifying the context-based criticality of the fire events depicted in the input data. This proposed framework can revolutionize surveillance applications by enhancing security and responding to crucial fire incidents in real-time. The system provides an efficient method for allocating resources and facilitates rapid response to incidents to prioritize activities intelligently. Using this approach, we identified and prioritized fire incidents in the urban environment.

Differently-abled people are significant minority groups, have many limitations to live everyday life, are starved of services, and are mostly ignored by society due to many types of disabilities. This problem may lead to massive frustrations and disappointments among themselves. Assistive technology may easily fill this gap with the enhanced different aiding applications. It helped in various ways, such as helping them to interact, communicate with people and allow people to do basic daily tasks by themselves. Nevertheless, there were fewer applications developed to entertain their leisure time. Therefore, the proposed solution provides a Smart Photo Editor, a hand-free mobile application with attractive photo editing features. This application focused on people having hand motor disabilities. Users can interact with the application using simple head gestures, eye gaze, and eye blinks. Head gestures and eye blinks are used as commands for application operations, while eye gaze is used for cursor enabling, which is helpful for navigation on application screens. Machine Learning (ML) and image processing techniques are used for real-time gesture recognition and eye gaze detection, using the input video frames captured by the inbuilt front-facing camera of the mobile phone. Moreover, in addition to the image processing techniques, Mask Recurrent-Convolutional Neural Network (R-CNN) is used to develop enhanced image adjusting features and customization of backgrounds based on object detection. © 2021 IEEE.

Frequently, individuals undergo specific episodes of mental health challenges throughout their lifetime. But the COVID pandemic has triggered a surge in mental health disorders arising from isolation, monotonous routines, demanding workloads, financial disparities, and disruptions to daily schedules. Furthermore, the global pandemic has induced constant anxiety and stress. Beyond the pandemic, the competition and intense pressure of the modern world impact mental health. Access to advanced mental health solutions and the necessary familiarity remain limited for most of the population. Given the integration of technology into daily life, diverse remedies, including mobile and web applications, have emerged to tackle the escalating challenge of mental health disorders. This study proposes an accessible and cost-effective approach that employs machine learning to detect stress levels and discern user emotions from journal entries and facial expressions while integrating self-journaling, video recommendations, and visual content generation to stimulate positive emotions and relieve stress.

Biometric technologies have been widely adopted in various commercial products, ranging from security systems to personal devices, due to their exceptional reliability and user-friendliness. Among these, palmprint biometrics has gained increasing attention for its advantages, such as ease of use, a larger surface area, and the ability to capture more features compared to other biometric methods. A typical palmprint biometric system involves five key stages: (a) Image Acquisition, (b) Hand Segmentation, (c) Pattern Generation, (d) Feature Extraction, and (e) Verification/Identification. The overall success of the system depends on the effectiveness of each stage, with hand segmentation being crucial for identifying the most relevant features for accurate verification. This study aims to achieve high-accuracy biometric recognition by segmenting hands from images captured in uncontrolled environments with complex backgrounds. Accuracy (ACC), Intersection over Union (IoU), F1-Score, and Dice Coefficient are the four critical metrics used to assess the performance of segmentation techniques. The findings demonstrate that the U-Net + ViT and MA-Net + ResNet34 techniques outperform traditional auto-encoder methods in both quantitative performance metrics and visual analysis, leading to significantly improved hand segmentation for biometric systems.

Explainable-AI-based two-stage solution for WSN object localization using zero-touch mobile transceivers

Artificial intelligence technology is widely used in the field of wireless sensor networks(WSN).Due to its inexplicability, the interference factors in the process of WSN object localization cannot be effectively eliminated. In this paper, an explainable-AI-based two-stage solution is proposed for WSN object localization. In this solution, mobile transceivers are used to enlarge the positioning range and eliminate the blind area for object localization. The motion parameters of transceivers are considered to be unavailable,and the localization problem is highly nonlinear with respect to the unknown parameters. To address this,an explainable AI model is proposed to solve the localization problem. Since the relationship among the variables is difficult to fully include in the first-stage traditional model, we develop a two-stage explainable AI solution for this localization problem. The two-stage solution is actually a comprehensive consideration of the relationship between variables. The solution can continue to use the constraints unused in the firststage during the second-stage, thereby improving the performance of the solution. Therefore, the two-stage solution has stronger robustness compared to the closed-form solution. Experimental results show that the performance of both the two-stage solution and the traditional solution will be affected by numerical changes in unknown parameters. However, the two-stage solution performs better than the traditional solution, especially with a small number of mobile transceivers and sensors or in the presence of high noise. Furthermore,we have also verified the feasibility of the proposed explainable-AI-based two-stage solution.

The problem of detecting top influential users in social networks is known as the influence maximization problem. Top social network influencers play a significant role in different fields like virtual marketing, politics, and public health. There are various techniques and methods implemented to identify the top influential users for maximizing the influence within social networks. There exist, however, a real challenge to effectively reach those top influential users with both high accuracy and less computational time. This paper proposes an efficient approach for the problem of influence maximization based on communities' identification. A proposed approach LCS includes three stages: firstly, the application of the Louvain community detection algorithm to detect the different communities of the social network graph. Secondly, executing the CRANK algorithm to rank and sort the generated communities-based CRANK main four metrics. Finally, the selection of the top seed nodes from the sorted communities using degree centrality. Experimental results conducted on three social network datasets, under an Independent Cascade model for verification, show the effectiveness of the proposed approach compared to the centrality-based heuristics. Additionally, comparable results are achieved against greedy algorithms with far less time complexity. © 2021 IEEE.

Smart learning environments have been considered as vital sources and essential needs since the spread of pandemic COVID 2019. COVID-19 era has drastically turned the conventional means of the educational system into digital means. With the rapid proliferation of smart and assistive technologies, smart learning processes have become quite convenient, comfortable, and financially affordable. This shift has led to the emergence of pervasive computing environments, where user’s intelligent behavior is supported by smart gadgets, however, it is becoming more challenging due to inconsistent behavior of Artificial intelligence (AI) assistive technologies in terms of networking issues, slow user responses to technologies and limited computational resources. This paper presents a context-aware predictive reasoning-based formalism for smart learning environments that facilitates students in managing their academic as well as extra curricular activities autonomously with limited human intervention. This system consists of a three-tier architecture including the acquisition of the contextualized information from the environment autonomously, modeling the system using Web Ontology Rule Language (OWL 2 RL) and Semantic Web Rule Language (SWRL), and perform reasoning to infer the desired goals whenever and wherever needed. For contextual reasoning, we develop a non-monotonic reasoning-based formalism to reason with contextual information using rule-based reasoning. The focus is on distributed problem-solving, where context-aware agents exchange information using rule-based reasoning and specify constraints to accomplish desired goals. To formally model-check the system, we model the case study of a smart learning environment in UPPAAL model checker and verify the system’s correctness behavior. © 2024, The Authors. The increasing prevalence of manipulated media, particularly deepfake videos, poses significant challenges in distinguishing real from fake content. This paper addresses the issue of detecting deepfake videos using advanced CNN architectures such as EfficientNet-B4 and XceptionNet. The FF++ and Celeb-DF (v2) datasets are used to compare real and fake videos. The methodology involves preprocessing the Celeb- DF dataset by extracting frames and isolating faces, training the models, and evaluating their performance using log loss and Area Under the Curve (AUC) metrics. The study shows that both models are effective in accurately classifying real and fake videos and highlights the importance of continuously updating deepfake detection algorithms in response to evolving deepfake generation techniques.
