We introduce a novel quantum genetic algorithm (QGA) that selects the optimum extreme (minimum or maximum) value of an unconstrained goal function with very low computational complexity. The quality of the initial candidate solutions of the classical genetic algorithm (CGA) has a strong influence on the speed of convergence to the best optimum result. To boost the quality of the initial selected random candidate solutions, we merge the CGA with a quantum extreme value searching algorithm (QEVSA). We exploited the proposed QGA as an embedded computational infrastructure for the uplink multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system. The algorithm maximizes the energy efficiency of the uplink MIMO system. Simulation results show that the suggested QGA successfully achieves maximum energy efficiency by determining the best transmit power of the active users. © 2023 IEEE.

Real-time hand gesture detection enables intuitive non-verbal communication between humans and devices. In gaming, using hand gestures as a control mechanism enhances user engagement and provides a more immersive experience. This research implements a real-time hand gesture detection system for the Rock-Paper-Scissors game by combining Mediapipe for feature extraction and a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) for gesture classification. Mediapipe detects and extracts key hand landmarks in real-time, while the CNN classifies the gestures into three categories: rock, paper, and scissors. The proposed system demonstrates high performance, achieving an impressive classification accuracy of 98.12% after 500 training epochs. Furthermore, it ensures adequate detection speed for seamless real-time interaction in gameplay. Future improvements to this system include utilizing a larger and more diverse dataset to enhance the model's ability to recognize a broader range of hand gesture patterns. This approach could improve robustness across different lighting conditions, hand sizes, and variations in gesture execution. Additionally, refining the CNN model architecture could lead to further performance gains in both accuracy and speed. The findings of this research highlight the potential for hand gesture detection to enhance interactivity in gaming and beyond. Applications such as augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and other interactive systems could benefit from this technology. This study demonstrates that integrating Mediapipe and CNNs can provide an accurate, responsive, and engaging user experience, paving the way for further advancements in gesture-based interaction technologies.

Beef cattle, as living, mobile organisms, one of the main livestock which produce the animal protein that is essential for humans, interact with their environment. The animal-environment system is very complex and digital data acquisition with IoT tools which create vast database open the way for producing valuable information for livestock practice. Precision livestock farming (PLF) technologies with application of machine learning and artificial intelligence methods are able to show hidden patterns and correlations between animal behavior and environment in real-time. These information supplement farmer’s knowledge about heat and health status of his livestock on pasture which influences his economic performance. It is important to highlight that the outdoor environment, which has a major impact on the performance of beef cattle, varies considerably from region to region. Given that pasture grass is the primary source of forage for beef cattle, its characteristics influence their movements and reproductive behavior. Our research investigates the mobility and estrus behavior of pasture grazed beef cattle using precision farming technology in a Hungarian context. Our research results have confirmed that the use of neck transponders can detect changes in cow activity and predict their heat instead of the farmer for the entire grazing period. By analyzing GPS data, we found that temperature influences the mobility of animals on pasture. The use of precision technologies in animal husbandry promotes prevention, efficiency, prediction of certain events, and lays the foundation for objective decision-making. Analysis of cattle behavior provides important findings for animal production practices, which can be incorporated into daily work processes with due consideration and competence. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Proportional counters filled with hydrogen are suitable for fast neutron detection and spectrometry. As their sensitivity is not limited only to this type of ionizing radiation as desired, an approach suitable for event discrimination was investigated. Several counters of the given construction were subjected to various radiation fields and the effort was directed to the examination of pulse-shape discrimination method intended to distinguish neutrons from gamma rays and parasitic events (microdischarges) if these also occurred. Rising edge duration of the output pulses and their amplitudes were mapped into diagrams enabling visual discrimination while the criteria for further computational processes are to be determined. Pulse waveforms from charge-sensitive preamplifier with the proportional counters connected were recorded using an FPGA-based custom-build acquisition unit and then post-processed. Moreover, the possibility of operation verification and energy calibration based on the introduction of helium-3 admixture into the gas filling was studied, as well as the energy resolution abilities. Also, the theoretical basis for particle discrimination is presented in the form of description of events and principles involved. © 2001-2012 IEEE.

Recent global emergencies have emphasized the importance of reliable communication networks. With increasing dependence on critical infrastructure, it is no longer sufficient to consider single-link or link-pair failures. Instead, networks must be designed to withstand disasters, considering their interdepen-dence with other infrastructures like the power grid. This paper investigates the problem of the disaster resilient upgrade of interdependent networks, focusing on enhancing network resilience during emergencies and ensuring a service-level agreement. In this paper, we analyze how the interdependency between the networks affects the disaster resilience and propose heuristic methods for network operators to improve resilience against disasters. Using simulations with real networks and earthquake data, we demonstrate that limiting the number of interdependent edges per node significantly affects resilience. Additionally, we show that selecting appropriate upgrade methods can reduce network upgrade costs by up to 25%. © 2023 IEEE.

Predicting student performance stands as a critical task to comprehensively assess their academic achievements, whether they classified as the category of good, sufficient, or bad. The outcome of a student's final exam can be influenced by a multitude of factors, among which the quality of the learning process and teaching methodology hold considerable significance. Recognizing the intricate interplay of these factors, it becomes evident that the integration of a satisfaction survey becomes imperative. In the realm of this research, we harness the potential embedded within both student satisfaction survey data and their ultimate academic grades. Overcoming existing challenges by an imbalanced dataset, we employ a holistic approach by utilizing the Support Vector Machine - Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique (SVM-SMOTE) to rectify the skewed distribution of data. To further enhance prediction capabilities, we introduced an innovative technique known as Deep Feature Synthesis. This advanced approach generating 36 novel features. The culmination of our research underscores the superiority of the random forest algorithm, especially when enriched by the harmonious merging of Deep Feature Synthesis and SVM-SMOTE through the strategic implementation of Random Search. Notably, our model achieves an impressive accuracy rate of 69%, complemented by 47% precision, 52% recall, and 47% F1-score.

Quantum-based satellite networks utilize the power of quantum technology to transmit and receive information globally. They are using quantum mechanics to encrypt and decrypt data, thus making it virtually impossible for someone to intercept or hack the communication. Such infrastructure can conduct highly accurate measurements, which can help precision agriculture, medical imaging, and environmental monitoring. In the future, quantum-based satellite networks can enhance distributed computing by interconnecting multiple quantum processors, significantly increasing the available computational power. In our work, we are interested in the effectiveness of different satellite topologies using two quantum key distribution (QKD) methods: prepare-and-measure and entanglement-based, examining networks operating with one, two, and three satellites. After comparing the results, we determine each case's most effective topologies and protocols. In the paper, we compare two different systems: networks using quantum entanglement (untrusted nodes-based concept) with networks using prepare-and-measure QKD (trusted nodes or reliable satellites-based system). These give us a relatively comprehensive picture of the differences between device-dependent and device-independent satellite infrastructures using available technologies. Microphone arrays can be used for many purposes, this paper is concerned with the determination of the position and trajectory of moving sound sources. The estimation of the position is based on the Delay-and-Sum method, which can be used to focus on different points in space, and to create sound maps representing the source distribution. This method can be enhanced further with different beamforming algorithms, for example with Multiple Signal Classification (MUSIC), or Functional Beamforming (FB). These algorithms all have their strengths and weaknesses, and their main beam width, side lobe strength, computational cost etc. must be considered. Beamforming algorithms complemented with the Kalman filter algorithm are suitable for tracking non-stationary sources as well. Our goal is to evaluate these methods through simulations and measurements. The measurement data is acquired from Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) acting as sound sources in an outdoor environment with far from ideal environmental conditions. Due to this, the results indicate the efficiency and limitations of the algorithms when used in real-life applications, so that improvements can be made to the methods for increased efficiency, accuracy, and robustness. © 2023 First author et al. Filter Bank MultiCarrier (FBMC) modulation, especially when combined with Offset Quadratic Amplitude Modulation (OQAM), is a promising technology for wireless communication and a strong candidate to replace Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM). FBMC-OQAM systems achieve high spectral efficiency and reduced out-of-band emissions due to the use of well-designed prototype filters. This paper discusses the criteria for selecting prototype filters in FBMC systems. It comprehensively evaluates various prototype filters, including PHYDYAS, IOTA, and Hermite filters. The analysis focuses on key performance metrics such as power spectral density, ambiguity function, and time-frequency localization. The results highlight each filter's unique strengths and weaknesses based on these metrics.
