Oil fields are a crucial component of the global economy, particularly in the Gulf countries. Various units in these fields, including pipelines, require constant monitoring and maintenance. The trend towards automation using the Internet of Things (IoT) has led to the development of IoT oil field monitoring systems, which can greatly enhance the efficiency of the oil and gas industry by detecting and resolving issues such as oil spills and leakages. This paper proposes the use of an autonomous boat equipped with sensors and a microcontroller to detect oil spills on the water's surface. The boat is equipped with sensitive sensors and a high-resolution camera to locate any oil spill, and if detected, a message containing the image and location is sent to a cloud server. The cloud server is designed based on Blynk cloud and libraries, which analyzes the data received to determine the appropriate course of action. A small prototype of the system was constructed and tested, and the results demonstrated that it is fast and efficient in terms of detection and response times. © 2023 IEEE.

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that at least 2.2 billion people suffer from some form of vision impairment. This widespread problem has resulted in a staggering $411 billion loss of productivity per year. To tackle this issue, researchers have employed IoT devices to aid visually impaired individuals in navigating their environments, but these solutions can be both inconvenient and costly. Mobile technology, on the other hand, has the potential to provide a more cost-effective and user-friendly solution. However, current mobile applications for the visually impaired only support English or French and require an internet connection to use. To address these limitations, a new mobile application named "Matia"has been developed to offer a solution in three languages: Arabic, French, and English, without the need for IoT devices or an internet connection. This paper describes the design and implementation of Matia application. The application's accuracy in recognizing five datasets (clothes, fruits, house equipment, pets, and banknotes) ranges from 74% to 90%, which is higher than existing literature. Further functionalities, such as guidance assistance and danger recognition, are under development to make the application even more useful in various situations. © 2023 ACM.

This study focused on the mental health of IT sector employees in Colombo, using quantitative research methods and data from 300 participants (162 males and 138 females) using the DASS 21 questionnaire and self-administered surveys through convenience sampling. Correlation analysis, chi-square tests, and regression analysis were utilized to examine the data. It found significant correlations between mental health outcomes (stress, anxiety, and depression) and factors like work-life balance, workload, working conditions, and physical fitness. Work-life balance, working environment, and workload were identified as the most significant predictors of mental health outcomes. Physical fitness was associated with stress, depression, and anxiety but had a limited overall impact on mental health. Differences in depression, stress, and anxiety levels were observed based on marital status, age group, work experience, salary, and gender. These findings emphasize the importance of addressing work-life balance and working conditions to enhance the mental health of IT sector employees in Colombo. They provide valuable insights for organizations and policymakers to develop strategies and interventions that promote employee well-being and productivity, underscoring the need to prioritize mental health and create a supportive work environment. © 2023 IEEE.

In the contemporary era, harnessing millimeter-wave frequencies emerges as a compelling strategy to fulfill the swift data transfer requirements for 5G communications. Consequently, this study involves designing a metamaterial-based multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna with a focus on achieving high isolation and gain within the millimeter-wave spectrum. The suggested MIMO is printed on a Rogers RT5800 measuring 18 × 38 × 0.8 mm3. The single antenna element demonstrates a broad frequency coverage from 27.2 to 28.72GHz. To elevate the antenna's effectiveness, a two-port MIMO configuration is implemented by introducing a second antenna element parallel to benchmark antenna. However, the isolation between the two elements is deemed satisfactory. To address this, a 4 × 1 metamaterial unit cell is introduced, significantly enhancing isolation from 31 dB to 39 dB at 28 GHz. Furthermore, it improves the gain by 0.5 dBi at 28 GHz, elevating it from 8.5 to 9 dBi. The collective features of the suggested two ports MIMO antenna, encompassing its compactness and simplicity, position it as an excellent option for upcoming portable and shrink devices in Internet of Things uses. © 2024 IEEE.

Ultimate Boundedness and Output Convergence of Prioritized Output Tracking Control Under Nonsmooth and Imperfect Feedback Linearization

The concept of priority has been introduced to the robotic systems in 1980 s as an effort to overcome problems caused by singularity and it has attracted considerable attention from both the robotics and control societies. However, none of the previous works have successfully addressed two fundamental degenerate properties of singularity: nonsmoothness and imperfect inversion. This technical note proposes a prioritized output tracking control method that guarantees the ultimate boundedness and the convergence of higher priority outputs when the input-output feedback linearization becomes nonsmooth and imperfect by singularity. For that purpose, we firstly prioritize the input-output feedback linearization and discuss how two degenerate properties can occur when the system becomes singular. Then, we introduce the differential inclusion to deal with the nonsmooth internal dynamics and establish a condition using the upper Dini derivative for asymptotically stable zero dynamics. Also, we propose a strictly positive realness-based feedback gain design and find a condition related to an M-matrix in order to handle nonlinearities that appear in the imperfect feedback linearization. Finally, we combine these two results and show the ultimate boundedness and the output convergence. Additionally, we provide a motivational example with a planar four-link manipulator to illustrate the effectiveness and limitations of the proposed method. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

Nonlinear equations systems(NESs)are widely used in real-world problems and they are difficult to solve due to their nonlinearity and multiple *** algorithms(EAs)are one of the methods for solving NESs,given their global search capabilities and ability to locate multiple roots of a NES simultaneously within one ***,the majority of research on using EAs to solve NESs focuses on transformation techniques and improving the performance of the used *** contrast,problem domain knowledge of NESs is investigated in this study,where we propose the incorporation of a variable reduction strategy(VRS)into EAs to solve *** VRS makes full use of the systems of expressing a NES and uses some variables(i.e.,core variable)to represent other variables(i.e.,reduced variables)through variable relationships that exist in the equation *** enables the reduction of partial variables and equations and shrinks the decision space,thereby reducing the complexity of the problem and improving the search efficiency of the *** test the effectiveness of VRS in dealing with NESs,this paper mainly integrates the VRS into two existing state-of-the-art EA methods(i.e.,MONES and DR-JADE)according to the integration framework of the VRS and EA,*** results show that,with the assistance of the VRS,the EA methods can produce better results than the original methods and other compared ***,extensive experiments regarding the influence of different reduction schemes and EAs substantiate that a better EA for solving a NES with more reduced variables tends to provide better performance.

Security is one of the key challenges in container orchestration, especially in complex environments. This paper explores the security aspects of implementing containerized applications using Docker within a Kubernetes cluster. The first part of the paper describes Docker, Kubernetes, and various ways of applying them within DevOps methodology. It then presents potential vulnerabilities during the implementation of these technologies, as well as vulnerabilities specific to Docker and Kubernetes. Subsequently, some solutions for securing a Kubernetes environment are described. © 2025 IEEE.

Prediabetes is a common health condition that often goes undetected until it progresses to type 2 diabetes. Early identification of prediabetes is essential for timely intervention and prevention of complications. This research explores the feasibility of using wearable continuous glucose monitoring along with smartwatches with embedded inertial sensors to collect glucose measurements and acceleration signals respectively, for the early detection of prediabetes. We propose a methodology based on signal processing and machine learning techniques. Two feature sets are extracted from the collected signals, based both on a dynamic modeling of the human glucose-homeostasis system and on the Glucose curve, inspired by three major glucose related blood tests. Features are aggregated per individual using bootstrap. Support Vector Machines are used to classify normoglycemic vs. prediabetic individuals. We collected data from 22 participants for evaluation. The results are highly encouraging, demonstrating high sensitivity and precision. This work is a proof of concept, highlighting the potential of wearable devices in prediabetes assessment. Future directions involve expanding the study to a larger, more diverse population and exploring the integration of CGM and smartwatch functionalities into a unified device. Automated eating detecting algorithms can also be used. © 2024 The Authors
