The development of smart systems is fundamental to improve the competitiveness of tourist destinations, by exploiting technologies such as Recommender systems (RS) and Decision Support systems (DSS). In this article, we propose an approach based on Model-Driven engineering (MDE) for the creation of a software factory dedicated to the design of RS and DSS for tourism destination managers. This software factory is based on two main assets: a Domain-Specific Language (DSL) for recommendation systems and another DSL for decision support systems. The main aim of this approach is to reduce the complexity and development time of this type of application.

Due to a shortage of funding and other market challenges, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) face difficulties in adopting new technologies. Numerous technological obstacles negatively impact the long-term commercial achievement of SMEs. The deployment of Industry 4.0hopes to resolve these technological challenges. A sustainable city is a complex structure where economic, societal, and ecological components interact and compete. There is a scarcity of l methodologies for measuring interactions in this complex structure. Industry 4.0 aims to obtain higher performance effectiveness, profitability, and automation. The main goal is to develop a reliable method of evaluating small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) adopting Industry 4.0 technologies, particularly concerning smart city applications. This paper aims to determine the influence of Industry 4.0 in fostering economic efficiency and sustainability amongst these SMEs. The study introduces a multi-criteria decision-making (SC-MCDM) system designed to test an SME’s achievement of their targeted sustainable developmental goals. A technique for computing the interaction between various standards, i.e., (static interactions and dynamical pattern resemblance), as well as the weightage of variables of every indicator generated by the connection, is included within SC-MCDM. Furthermore, applying the suggested technique is validated by assessing the sustainable development goals of twelve Chinese cities within the Triple Bottom Line (TBL) paradigm. From a geographic-temporal viewpoint, spatial variations in city sustainability reveal regional sustainable inequalities. Indicator scores suggest that the most significant factors for most communities are the lack of research spending, falling financing in stationary assets, shortage of financial development, and inadequate shared transit. Road damage is truly inconvenient for drivers. It possibly results in accidents. Drivers may get a warning to avoid it if the damaged location has been detected. Road damage detection can be done using the built-in sensors on a smartphone. This research was conducted using the Machine Learning method. The final results were road damage detection and warning applications. TensorFlow Lite was needed for visual detection, while motional detection utilized an accelerometer. A warning application was synced with Firebase Cloud Messaging to send notifications 25 meters to the damage point. This allows the driver to avoid such damage. From the test results, the accuracy of visual detection reached 85.03% and motional detection reached 73.71%. In the warning application, it successfully sent notifications with 64.28% accuracy. © 2022 IEEE.

Satellite images that are publicly available on the internet such as Google Maps are mostly low-quality and blurry which is not very useful for research or decision-making due to the lack of details. Recently image upscaling has been increasing in popularity to address several real-world problems where one approach is using Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs). However, CNNs have difficulty in restoring fine details and this has led to the use of Generative adversarial networks (GANs) for image scaling. In this paper, three GAN models are trained which are Enhanced Super-Resolution Generative Adversarial Networks (Real-ESRGAN), Image Restoration Using Swin Transformer (SwinIR-Medium), and Dual Aggregation Transformer (DAT-2). The models are evaluated with well-known image metrics to determine each model's effectiveness in upscaling low-resolution satellite images. The results show that all models can reconstruct the image to some degree where the best out of the three is DAT-2. Further fine-tuning of the best model by changing the loss functions has shown improvements in structural integrity for the upscaled image. © 2024 IEEE.

The work reported in this article addresses the challenge of building models for non-trivial aerobatic aircraft maneuvers in an automated fashion. It is built using a Behavioural Cloning approach where human pilots provide a set of example maneuvers used by a Machine Learning algorithm to induce a control model for each maneuver. The best examples for each maneuver were selected using a set of objective evaluation metrics. Using those example sets, robust models were induced that could replicate (and in some cases outperform) the human pilots that provided the examples (the clean-up effect). Complete complex maneuvers were performed using a meta-controller capable of sequencing the basic ones learned by imitation. This endeavor was rewarded by the results that show several Machine Learning models capable of performing highly complex aircraft maneuvers. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

A disease is a distinct abnormal state that significantly affects the functioning of all or part of an individual and is not caused by external harm. Diseases are frequently understood as medical conditions connected with distinct indications and symptoms. According to a fairly wide categorization, diseases can also be categorized as mental disorders, deficient diseases, genetic diseases, degenerative diseases, self-inflicted diseases, infectious diseases, non-infectious diseases, social diseases, and physical diseases. Prevention of the diseases is of multiple instances. Primary prevention seeks to prevent illness or harm before it ever happens. Secondary prevention tries to lessen the effect of an illness or damage that has already happened. This is done through diagnosing and treating illness or injury as soon as feasible to stop or delay its course, supporting personal ways to avoid recurrence or reinjury, and implementing programs to restore individuals to their previous health and function to prevent long-term difficulties. Tertiary prevention tries to lessen the impact of a continuing sickness or injury that has enduring repercussions. Diagnosis of the disease at an earlier stage is important for the treatment of the disease. Hence, in this study, deep learning algorithms, such as VGG16, EfficientNetB4, and ResNet, are utilized to diagnose various diseases, such as Alzheimer's, brain tumors, skin diseases, and lung diseases. Chest X-rays, MRI scans, CT scans, and skin lesions are used to diagnose the mentioned diseases. Transfer learning algorithms, such as VGG16, VGG19, ResNet, InceptionV3, and EfficientNetB4, are utilized to categorize various diseases. EfficientNetB4 with the learning rate annealing, having obtained an accuracy of 94.04% on the test dataset, is observed. As a consequence, we observed that every network has unique particular skills on the multi-disease dataset, which includes chest X-rays, MRI scans, etc., © The Author(s) 2024.

This paper proposes an innovative decision support system based on sentiment analysis, specifically designed for the transportation sector. The system employs an aspect-based sentiment analysis approach, which accurately identifies and classifies customer opinions on key transportation service aspects such as comfort, driver behavior, punctuality, and vehicle condition. By integrating the BERT model, known for its advanced natural language processing capabilities, our system provides an in-depth and reliable analysis of customer sentiments. This analysis enables managers and decision-makers to better understand the strengths and weaknesses of the provided transportation services and to precisely target areas that require improvement. By offering actionable insights, our approach aims to enhance the user experience, improve service quality, and increase overall customer satisfaction.

This paper describes a study developed to analyse the interest in investing in Li-ion batteries to perform price arbitrage in the power system of Portugal. In this context, it was developed a methodology to identify the most suitable hours for charging and discharging the energy, and the new market prices were estimated for these hours. It was concluded that at current investment costs in this storage technology, and current market prices, this investment would not be viable in the lifetime of the batteries despite the recent rise of electricity market prices and also the larger price spread. This spread is now larger given the depression of prices at sunny hours that is getting typical in the Iberian electricity market.

Developing efficient underwater communication systems is complex, as multiple factors impact communication quality. While rapid prototyping has been a common approach, it carries a high risk of failure. To address this challenge, model-based development and implementation have gained popularity. However, selecting the optimal combination of modulation type, correction properties, synchronization properties, and other parameters remains time-consuming and intricate. This paper presents an innovative approach to streamline the development process by reducing the exploration space. The proposed method evaluates potential solutions based on scenario-specific, application-specific, and performance-related upper and lower bounds for the selectable communication system. These bounds consider common underwater challenges, such as SNR degradation and multiple bounce loss, and distinguish between dynamic and static system analyses. By adopting this approach, existing analysis and development workflow achieve more optimized communication systems and afford more efficient variant selection using narrowing down the solution space and considering the specific requirements of each scenario. The approach’s effectiveness is demonstrated through case studies and evaluations, highlighting the benefits of reducing the exploration space and utilizing scenario-, application-, and performance-based bounds. This enables the development of robust and tailored underwater communication systems, improving communication quality and overall system performance.
