This paper presents an adaptive, iteratively functioning ECG signal filtering method. After a conventional pre-filtering, the waves from the signal are localized and the model's parameters are determined. The gained information allows an iterative-type filtering in permanent concordance with the aimed processing manner. The structure of the algorithm allows real-time adaptation to the heart's state. Using these methods for one channel of the MIT-BIH database, the detection rate of QRS complexes is above 99.8%. The negative influence of various noise types, like 50/60 Hz power line, abrupt baseline shift or drift, and low sampling rate was almost completely eliminated.

This paper presents the description of the heart's function using a mathematical model, in order to recognize the dangerous states. The developed system applies three different models to obtain the diagnosis: cell model, heart model and chest model. Due to lots of unknown parameters, the computerized “understanding” and simulation of these physiological processes are handled by stochastic processing methods. These methods refer to several physiological problems, like the contraction of the heart, the respiration, the state of the patient, etc. Unfortunately, the printed and electronical literature is often unpunctual, which makes the implementation of such a system harder.

A Wavelet-transform-based diverse ECG waveform detection method is presented. An adaptive structure of the processing algorithm can significantly increase the recognition ratio. As a first step, the program will correctly determine the position of QRS complexes and will separate the normal and abnormal beats. Our method allows us to modify in real time the mother-wavelet function, and in this way can be customized to an individual subject or specific waveforms. A parametrical model determines the best performing function for a specific waveform. We used our measurements, but for an adequate comparison with other processing algorithms, tests have been made for the commonly used MIT-BIH database, too. To allow greater waveform diversity we also used our measurements. QRS detection rate was above 99.9%, and for other waveforms the method performs quite well too. The negative influence of various noise types, like 50/60 Hz power line, abrupt baseline shift or drift, and low sampling rate in most cases was almost completely eliminated.

In this paper a non-linear fuzzy autopilot for ship track-keeping is presented. The proposed autopilot has four inputs (actual and desired heading, rate of change of heading and offset from the desired path) and one output (command rudder angle). The track-keeping problem is decomposed into two subtasks: (i) followthe desired heading, and (ii) bring the ship onto the desired path and keep tracking. Internally, the autopilot consists of two autopilots that fulfil these tasks simultaneously. The proposed control scheme has been verified using a non-linear model of a Mariner-class vessel and steering mechanism under the influence of wave and current disturbances. Results presented show how such a control strategy enables improved tracking performance.

This article addresses a method for discrete-time H∞- control based on J-lossless factorisations of chain scattering representations of a plant. Delta-domain state space formulae for both J-lossless and dual J-lossless factorisations are given. Optimal controllers are obtained via solving two coupled δ-domain algebraic Riccati equations. A relative condition number is utilised as a measure of numerical conditioning of the δ-domain algebraic Riccati equation and it is shown that the proposed method of controller synthesis is much better-conditioned than its counterpart version based on the common forward shift operator. Two numerical examples are given to illustrate the method.

This article addresses a new development of robust pole placement design in the delta domain for single-input single-output (SISO) control systems. Problems of how to obtain both the nominal as well as robust closed-loop stability and performance are considered. The approach is based on a robust pole placement methodology that uses two sets of coupled Diophantine equations and the Q-parameterisation paradigm. The method can be applied both for minimum-phase and non-minimum-phase uncertain systems. A numerical example is given to illustrate the method.
