Background and Purpose: Coronaviruses (CoV) are perilous viruses that may cause Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV), Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV). The novel 2019 Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) was discovered as a novel disease pneumonia in the city of Wuhan, China at the end of 2019. Now, it becomes a Coronavirus outbreak around the world, the number of infected people and deaths are increasing rapidly every day according to the updated reports of the World Health Organization (WHO). Therefore, the aim of this article is to introduce a new deep learning framework;namely COVIDX-Net to assist radiologists to automatically diagnose COVID-19 in X-ray images. Materials and Methods: Due to the lack of public COVID-19 datasets, the study is validated on 50 Chest X-ray images with 25 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases. The COVIDX-Net includes seven different architectures of deep convolutional neural network models, such as modified Visual Geometry Group Network (VGG19) and the second version of Google MobileNet. Each deep neural network model is able to analyze the normalized intensities of the X-ray image to classify the patient status either negative or positive COVID-19 case. Results: Experiments and evaluation of the COVIDX-Net have been successfully done based on 80-20% of X-ray images for the model training and testing phases, respectively. The VGG19 and Dense Convolutional Network (DenseNet) models showed a good and similar performance of automated COVID-19 classification with f1-scores of 0.89 and 0.91 for normal and COVID-19, respectively. The worst classification performance is obtained for the InceptionV3 model with f1-scores of 0.67 for normal cases and 0.00 for COVID-19 cases. Conclusions: This study demonstrated the useful application of deep learning models to classify COVID-19 in X-ray images based on the proposed COVIDX-Net framework. Terrain prickliness: theoretical grounds for high complexity viewsheds

MSC Codes 68U05An important task in terrain analysis is computing viewsheds. A viewshed is the union of all the parts of the terrain that are visible from a given viewpoint or set of viewpoints. The complexity of a viewshed can vary significantly depending on the terrain topography and the viewpoint position. In this work we study a new topographic attribute, the prickliness, that measures the number of local maxima in a terrain from all possible angles of view. We show that the prickliness effectively captures the potential of 2.5D TIN terrains to have high complexity viewsheds. We present optimal (for 1.5D terrains) and near-optimal (for 2.5D terrains) algorithms to compute it for TIN terrains, and efficient approximate algorithms for raster DEMs. We validate the usefulness of the prickliness attribute with experiments in a large set of real terrains. Recently, the field of fractional calculus has garnered significant attention due to its wide range of applications across various disciplines in science and engineering. Numerous results have been derived using tools from numerical functional analysis and fixed point theory to address a variety of problems in this area. This study employs the Banach Fixed Point Theorem (BFPT) to establish the existence and uniqueness of solutions for Riemann–Liouville fractional differential equations (RLFDEs) involving multiple orders. Sufficient conditions for the existence of solutions to the problem under consideration have been provided. Furthermore, an illustrative example is presented to validate the theoretical findings. © 2025

Layered carbides and borides, blending ceramic and metallic properties, offer great promise for future nuclear reactor applications due to their complex nanolaminate crystal structure. We conducted a comprehensive investigation to understand the profound effects of He ion irradiation on polycrystalline Fe2AlB2 samples exposed to varying fluences, energy, and *** temperature (RT) irradiation triggers notable changes: a-lattice expands 0.3%, c-lattice contracts 0.07%, and an embedded amorphous layer into the matrix is formed. 400°C annealing keeps an amorphous structure but 800°C annealing fully recrystallizes with bubble growth. At 400°C irradiation with the same fluence, smaller bubbles form without an amorphous layer, indicating defect recombination depends on helium attachment to vacancies. Under irradiation at 700°C, faceted bubbles develop exclusively within Fe2AlB2, with no such bubbles in Al2O3. These faceted bubbles align themselves along (110) planes. Simultaneously, irradiation prompts tangled dislocations within the damaged layer, fostering the congregation of polygonal bubbles along grain boundaries (GBs) and creating denuded areas at GBs. Impressively, Fe2AlB2 demonstrates remarkable oxidation resistance under high-temperature irradiation, maintaining surface stability without the cracks seen in ion-irradiated Ti3SiC2 and Ti2AlC at *** outcomes conclusively establish Fe2AlB2 as a promising choice for reactors designed to function at temperatures surpassing 500°C. The material showcases remarkable resilience to irradiation, prompting a need for additional exploration and serious consideration in reactor applications operating in environments beyond the 500°C threshold. © 2024, The Authors. SiC is considered in advanced nuclear systems, as well as for electronic or spintronic applications which require an ion implantation process. In this regard, two sets of 6H-SiC samples were implanted i) with 2.5 MeV Fe ions and ii) co-implanted with 2.5 MeV Fe ions and 500 keV He ions at room temperature and then annealed at 1500 °C for 2 h. The microstructure evolution and Fe diffusion behavior before and after annealing were characterized and analyzed. After annealing, ToF-SIMS profiles and HAADF-STEM results indicated that Fe concentration is enhanced close to the surface in the Fe implanted sample, whereas in the co-implanted system, Fe atoms redistributed into two distinct, spatially separated regions (close to the surface, and around the He-induced defects). The reason behind this finding is explained from an energetic point of view using DFT simulations. Technologically, the pre-existing cavities can be used to control the Fe diffusion. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Modern data centers’ providers are gradually moving away from traditional and multi-vendor IT infrastructures to open, standardized and interchangeable solutions that are based on a software defined approach to managing data center resources. It is a matter of fact that Europe is facing more and more crucial challenges regarding health and social care due to the demographic change and the current economic context. The recent COVID-19 pandemic has stressed this situation even further, thus highlighting the need for taking action. Active and Assisted Living (AAL) technologies come as a viable approach to help facing these challenges, thanks to the high potential they have in enabling remote care and support. Broadly speaking, AAL can be referred to as the use of innovative and advanced Information and Communication Technologies to create supportive, inclusive and empowering applications and environments that enable older, impaired or frail people to live independently and stay active longer in society. AAL capitalizes on the growing pervasiveness and effectiveness of sensing and computing facilities to supply the persons in need with smart assistance, by responding to their necessities of autonomy, independence, comfort, security and safety. The application scenarios addressed by AAL are complex, due to the inherent heterogeneity of the end-user population, their living arrangements, and their physical conditions or impairment. Despite aiming at diverse goals, AAL systems should share some common characteristics. They are designed to provide support in daily life in an invisible, unobtrusive and user-friendly manner. Moreover, they are conceived to be intelligent, to be able to learn and adapt to the requirements and requests of the assisted people, and to synchronise with their specific needs. Nevertheless, to ensure the uptake of AAL in society, potential users must be willing to use AAL applications and to integrate them in their daily environments and lives. In this respect, video- and audio-based AAL applications have several advantages, in terms of unobtrusiveness and information richness. Advanced materials capable of withstanding high radiation levels at elevated temperatures are essential for the development of next-generation fission and future fusion energy technologies. However, current structural materials, despite their potential, deteriorate under the harsh radiation environment, leading to irreversible microstructure degradation. In this context, we have designed CrAlSiN, which features a vein-like nanochannel structure embedded within amorphous layers. We subjected this material to helium (He) irradiation, followed by annealing and oxidation processes. Under extreme conditions, this composition demonstrates the absence of bubble formation, negligible hardening, exceptional thermal stability, and oxidation resistance. Through density functional theory (DFT) simulations, we have clarified that the improved radiation tolerance is primarily attributed to the presence of nitrogen (N) atoms. These N atoms facilitate a significant rearrangement of ions surrounding vacancies, leading to the formation of new bonds with N atoms. This phenomenon preserves the vein-like structure and results in the elimination of vacancies. Consequently, this mechanism prevents the formation of sites that could trap He atoms. These findings provide the groundwork for a conceptual framework that paves the way for designing the next generation of structural alloys engineered to exhibit enhanced radiation tolerance. © 2023, The Authors. The results of heat transfer dynamic processes during the breathing are presented. The study is relevant for investigation of health in the extreme conditions of the Arctic. For estimation of this processes the measurement system of temperature, pressure and velocity pulsations in nostrils are developed.
