The process of conceptual change in learning, wherein a student's existing knowledge might be changed or fundamentally replaced, is influenced by the affective states of the student's emotion during the learning process. Similarly, in a computer based learning environment, monitoring student's affect is crucial in fostering fruitful conceptual change learning. As such, these studies aimed to propose and compare two conceptual change Bayesian network models;with the first model constructed based on the classical conceptual change theory, while another with the addition of affective factors in the model. Both models were evaluated and the findings suggested that the conceptual change model performed better when affect traits are incorporated into the student model. © 2012 IEEE.

Due to the rapid development of information technology, many firms have already or plan to move from traditional service to electronic environment. One of the important factor issues which need to be considered is the user acceptance of e-service technology. In order to evaluate the adoption of web based information technology, it is vital to release the users' needs. Therefore, the diversity of Web based service user types need to be recognized. This paper is going to classify the e-service users based on their experience, purpose of usage and geographical place.

Mobile devices are ubiquitous enough to be considered as a valid token for proof of claim to identity. Unfortunately, the small size of mobile devices also means that it is prone to being misplaced and stolen. Gait biometric on accelerometer equipped mobile devices can add another layer of security in the event of theft, as it would refute a fraudulent claim to identity. As an extra bonus, gait data can be collected without the knowledge of the person handling the mobile device. In this paper, we describe how mobile devices can be used unobtrusively for the purpose of person verification. Person verification is achieved by classification of accelerometer based gait data recorded by said mobile device. Use cases for this approach is presented in a framework;supported by proof of concept experimental results. © 2012 ACM.

With the emergence of online education, there comes a need for a dedicated method to efficiently introduce the available content to learners. Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) attempt to achieve this feat by taking the class experience, as it is, online. These special types of learning courses have boomed vastly in the past year, triggered by an Artificial Intelligence course offering of Stanford fellows Sebastian Thrun and Peter Norvig. MOOC is different in the aspect that they generally have deadlines and provide certificates of accomplishments. Homework assignment deadlines are mostly weekly on the topics taught in a given week. In this paper, the major MOOC organizations are introduced and their track is discussed. © 2012 IEEE.

Categorizing Interactive Digital Narrative (IDN) works is challenging because artistic and technological approaches constantly evolve. At the same time, a range of theoretical approaches from neo-Aristotelian perspectives to applications of post-classical narratology have applied many markedly different analytical perspectives, making an overall comparison difficult. This position paper expresses the need for novel, dynamic and multidimensional mappings and explores an early selection of categorizations for IDN works across different approaches. © Springer International Publishing 2013.

With the abundance of mobile wireless devices ranging from notebooks to smart phones, it has become convenient for One-Time Passwords (OTP) mechanism to be used for authentication. OTP are generated for single use purposes only and are generally generated on demand and have a limited usable shelf life. Upon usage, the password will be invalidated on both the client and the server side of the authentication system. A popular and standardized OTP system is the Hashed Message Authentication Code (HMAC) Based OTP (HOTP). In the HOTP system, the OTP is generated on the client side by firstly generating an encryption key that is derived from a shared secret key and incrementing a counter value. The final value generated is then truncated to the number of digits as per required by the OTP. On the server side, the same computation is generated and the OTP generated are compared for authentication. Signal interruptions in wireless environments may cause the need to regenerate a new OTP on the client side and hence causes the dynamic counter value to be desynchronized with the server. In the event that a mismatch occurs during the authentication process, the server increases the counter value within a look-ahead window for s times. This resynchronization parameter, s, determines the tolerance level of being desynchronized. However, larger s values (better tolerance) come with a trade-off of higher computational needs and can be a source of malicious attacks. This paper introduces an improved method to the HOTP standard in order to increase the computational efficiency for a larger s window. The introduced method doubles the s window size through negligible computational overheads. Furthermore, the method described in this paper can be easily implemented in the current standard implementation of the HOTP standards.

Data grid technology has the advantage of allowing data sharing and collaboration activities across many organizations in geographically dispersed locations. Due to collaboration activities in distributed data grid, improving data access is one of the issues that need to be wisely addressed in achieving better optimization. In this paper, a replication model for federation data grid system called Sub-Grid-Federation had been proposed to improve access latency by accessing data from an area identified as `Network Core Area' (NCA). The performance of access latency in Sub-Grid-Federation had been tested based on the mathematical proving and simulated using OptorSim simulator. Hence, Sub-Grid-Federation is a better alternative for the implementation of collaboration and data sharing in data grid system.

Although superstores can help visually impaired customers with their in-store shopping, they cannot help them identify the products after the customers take them home. We designed a QR-Label and realized an on-demand printing system for superstores. Visually impaired customers can listen to product information at home through their mobile phone by using it to scan the QR-Label placed on each of the purchased packages.
