In this paper we discuss one relatively hidden but important issue related to information systems development - weak integration of performing and managing the information systems development. Among others, two causes for such weak integration are identified as important-weak integration of methodological support to the performing and managing the development, and difficulties in knowledge transfer. We show that in practice this may have some important adverse consequences for development process, such as communication problems between engineering and managerial parts of the development team, or insisting on application of inappropriate method. In this paper we argue that the methodological integration is, rather than methodological innovation, a potential solution to this problem - both processes have traditionally quite well developed methodological support but the essential interconnection of these methods is often missing. As another potential improvement primarily intended to facilitate knowledge transfer within development team, we also suggest stronger integration of knowledge that the development process managers should possess.

Access control models describe frameworks that dictate how subjects (e.g. users) access resources. In the role-based access control (RBAC) model access to resources is based on the role the user holds within the organization. RBAC is a rigid model where access control decisions have only two output options: grant or deny. break the glass (BTG) policies on the other hand are flexible and allow users to break or override the access controls in a controlled and justifiable manner. The main objective of this paper is to integrate BTG within the NIST/ANSI RBAC model in a transparent and secure way so that it can be adopted generically in any domain where unanticipated or emergency situations may occur. The new proposed model, called BTG-RBAC, provides a third decision option BTG, which grants authorized users permission to break the glass rather than be denied access. This can easily be implemented in any application without major changes to either the application code or the RBAC authorization infrastructure, apart from the decision engine. Finally, in order to validate the model, we discuss how the BTG-RBAC model is being introduced within a Portuguese healthcare institution where the legislation requires that genetic information must be accessed by a restricted group of healthcare professionals. These professionals, advised by the ethical committee, have required and asked for the implementation of the BTG concept in order to comply with the said legislation.

Precise control of Automatic Guided Vehicles (AGVs) navigating between the aisles of manufacturing systems by the use of local markers is an important task. On the basis of the geometric model of the workspace and the vehicles and that of the sensor uncertainties precise trajectories were recently generated along which the vehicle safely can move. In order to achieve precise trajectory tracking the effects of the system's dynamical uncertainties (modeling errors and possible external perturbations) have to be compensated. In the present paper a simple, fixed point transformations based adaptive control is proposed for this purpose. The proposed method is tested via simulation for a vehicle of triangular shape, driven by three omnidirectional wheels. The method is also able to monitor and evade the conditions that may lead to turning over the vehicle.

A novel cell formation algorithm has been introduced in this paper. The motivation of the research is the lack of attention in important information, e.g., production demand (or part-volume), in the most of the cell formation techniques. For example, one of the crucial steps in the design of a cellular manufacturing system is the cell formation problem, which involves grouping the parts into part families and machines into machine groups. It has been found that 80% of the cell formation problems consider only 0-1 (binary) machine-part incidence matrix that ignores the sequence of operations in manufacturing parts. Further, literature reveals that only a few studies consider alternative routing. In order to cope with this situation a new cell formation algorithm, considering the factors sequence of operation, alternative routing and part-volume, is introduced.

In the paper we bring attention to description of complex systems in terms of self-organization processes of prime integer relations. Revealed through the unity of two equivalent forms, arithmetical and geometrical, the description may have the potential for the unification of quantum mechanics and general relativity. The experiments aimed to compare data driven soft computing models for the valuation of residential premises were conducted using the KEEL tool (knowledge extraction based on evolutionary learning). Twelve regression algorithms were applied to actual data sets derived from the cadastral system and the registry of real estate transactions. The 5times2-fold cross validation and nonparametric statistical tests were applied. The results proved the usefulness of the tool to carry out laborious investigation in a relatively short time. Further research is needed to determine to what extent data coming from such sources allow to build the real estate valuation models.
