Paper and board for printing commonly contains optical brightening agents that fluoresce in the presence of UV radiation, making the prints appear brighter and bluer. If the relative amount of optical brightening agents (OBAs) is not consistent between proof and print, and the UV content of measurement and the viewing illumination differs, there will be a colorimetric difference between proof and print. Colour management workflows are normally media-relative, and visual adaptation to the media white can conflict with the goals of colorimetric matching. The impact of UV content in measurement and viewing illumination on the visual acceptability of colour reproductions was investigated in a series of psychophysical experiments, using substrates with varying OBA concentrations and a media-relative colour reproduction workflow. The results showed that visual acceptability was largely unaffected by UV content of measurement or viewing illumination, suggesting that visual adaptation to media white discounts the effect of fluorescence. © 2024 Copyright for this paper by its authors.

Superconducting QUantum Interference Device (SQUID) axial gradiometer can replace magnetic shielding rooms (MSRs) for environmental noise suppression as a way to improve the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) in weak magnetic field detection. However, its evaluation requires a low-temperature environment, which is complex and cumbersome. Therefore, developing an efficient and accurate evaluation method for gradiometers is of great significance. In this study, the MAXWELL simulation platform was utilized to evaluate the noise suppression ability of different gradiometer configurations in an unshielded environment. After evaluation, we found that when the threshold for the center horizontal distance of the gradiometer is 2.2 times the diameter of the gradiometer, the axial two-dimensional (2D) gradiometer achieves a noise suppression ratio of 59.28 dB and the coefficient of temporal relativity is 0.13 with the magnetocardiography (MCG) signal. These results provide valuable guidance for the design and fabrication of hardware gradiometers. © 2023 IEEE.

In the current context of increasing electricity consumption and at the same time reducing CO2 emissions, distributed renewable energy sources have gradually become a new trend in distribution network development. Their widespread use can have a negative impact on the operation of the network. Arbitrary placement of these sources can cause both an increase in active power losses and a change in the voltage level in the nodes, with effects on the system's stability. To address this issue, the paper uses the Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO) algorithm to determine the optimal location and value of the DG that leads to minimal losses of active power, under the conditions of compliance with the restrictions regarding the voltage level in the nodes. The work takes into account DG that produces only active power (for example photovoltaic panels). IEEE 33-bus and IEEE 69-bus test distribution networks were used for the case study. The determinations were performed in MATLAB, by associating the GWO algorithm to calculating power losses in the analyzed network. The results demonstrate the importance of the optimal choice of both the DG location and their sizes for the efficient network operation. Through the optimal placement of the distributed energy source according to the results of the applied algorithm, the benefit of using a green energy source is accumulated with the reduction of active power losses and the improvement of the bus voltage level. © 2023 IEEE.

The 'free' business model prevails in mobile apps available through the major channels, hinting at the possibility that users 'pay' for the use of the mobile apps by sharing their private data with the developers and platform providers. Several types of personal data and permissions of mobile applications were analyzed. We examined 636 apps in several categories, such as medical, health & fitness, business, finance, and entertainment. The types of personal data being requested by the apps were collected from their privacy policies and the list of permissions was scraped from the platform's store. We implemented a privacy policy word processing algorithm, the purpose of which was to gain a better insight into the types of data collected. Using the algorithm results, we also performed statistical analyses, based on which we found, expectedly, that free mobile applications collect more data than paid ones. However, there are discrepancies between the permissions we obtained from the privacy policy texts and those stated on the Google Play and Apple App Store websites. More permission requirements emerged from the privacy policy texts than were shown on corresponding app stores, which is a worrying result. © 2023 The authors and IOS Press.

There has been a sharp rise in the number of fatalities and injuries caused by traffic accidents in urban areas. Cities often have video and image resources that can be analyzed manually using operators to address this problem. This paper introduces an automated collision detection system that utilizes publicly available images captured by Toronto's traffic camera system. The system is based on a Deep Learning model, specifically a DenseNet-161, employed to classify accidents and non-accidents. The results of this classification are then displayed on a graphical user interface. The primary aim of this study is to reduce medical response time and ultimately save lives by issuing automatic alerts. The proposed system has the potential to minimize the severity of accidents and decrease the number of fatalities by notifying emergency services once an accident is detected. © 2023 IEEE.

The creation of new approaches to the design and configuration of smart buildings relies heavily on AI tools and Machine Learning (ML) algorithms, particularly optimization techniques. The widespread use of electronic devices has sparked a strong desire to incorporate the Internet of Things (IoT) into houses, leading to the development of smart homes. As networked gadgets proliferate rapidly, this phenomenon is characterized by rapid proliferation. In smart buildings, smart cities, smart grids, and smart homes, interconnected electronic devices are becoming more popular. The objective of this paper is to enhance the functionality of home automation systems through the performance of speech recognition using the Bat-Salp Swarm Optimization (BSSO). This paper investigates the notion of (BSSO), a data analysis methodology that facilitates the automated construction of analytical models. The implementation of BSSO provides an enhancement to the feature selection process in speech recognition, providing an approximation solution that improves the accuracy of system decisions. The use of the BSSO technique improves the precision of the voice recognition system and also incorporates an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) for the classification part. The findings substantiated the efficacy of the employed methodology. © 2024 Copyright for this paper by its authors.

Recurrent neural networks (RNN) are highly effective in solving the inverse problem of time-dependent matrices. However, in real-world engineering applications, noise interference is inevitable. The zeroing neural network (ZNN) is a special class of RNN that exhibit strong noise tolerance in solving the time-dependent Sylvester equation (TDSE). Despite the usefulness of the previously proposed original ZNN (OZNN) model and integral enhanced ZNN (IEZNN) model, they lack the ability to suppress linear and quadratic noise when solving the Sylvester equation. In this paper, a complex double integration enhanced ZNN (CDIEZNN) model is introduced for the first time to address the problem of TDSE. The theoretical basis for the convergence and robustness of the double integral model is described in detail. Two experiments are conducted to verify the convergence and robustness of the CDIEZNN model, and the digital simulation results demonstrate that in solving the TDSE, the residual error of the CDIEZNN model rapidly and stably converges to 3.82 × 10-6in a linear noise environment, and even in complex quadratic noise environments, the residual error can still converge to 1.99 × 10-2• In contrast, the OZNN and IEZNN models have weak suppression of linear noise and the residual errors cannot converge in a quadratic noise environment and the results show divergence. © 2024 IEEE.

Mutual character dialogue generation with semi-supervised multitask learners and awareness

Consistent efforts have been ongoing to improve the friendliness and reliability of informal dialogue systems. However, most research focuses solely on mimicking human-like answers. Therefore, the interlocutors’ awareness features of the dialogue system are left unexplored. Meanwhile, cognitive science research reveals that awareness is a crucial indicator of an effective, high-quality informal conversation. This research aims to boost the quality of the conversational generation system by factoring in awareness of the interlocutors in the design and training of the dialogue system model. The Generative Pre-Trained Transformer-2 (GPT-2) model was implemented into the Persona Perception (P²) Bot to achieve the objectives of this study. This was to precisely develop model's understanding, P² Bot was implemented using a transmitter–receiver-based structure. The P² Bot leverages mutual persona awareness to improve the quality of customized dialogue generation. GPT-2 is a 1.5B parameter transformer model that produces state-of-the-art accuracy in a zero-shot setting on seven of the eight evaluated language modeling datasets. The observations of the proposed model on a sizable open-source dataset, PERSONA-CHAT, proved successful, with improvement above the state-of-the-art baselines in both automatic measures and human assessments. The model has achieved 82.2% accuracy on Hits@1 performance metrics in the original data and 68.8% on the revised data. On the human evaluation, the model scored an average of 2.66, pointing out that the responses provided were coherent and informative. A dialogue generation model with character and awareness which can communicate like an informative human expert was introduced. Due to inconvenience and time wasting factor in traditional trolleys employed in shopping malls, markets and shopping complexes etc, we have come up with the novel solution named as RoboTrolley i.e. an intelligent customer following trolley (CFT) that will follow the customer while maintaining a suitable distance. The CFT strikes an optimal equilibrium between automation and personalized experience through this harmonious fusion of technology and human-centric design and redefines the shopping experience. This design has been achieved by integrating contemporary technology into the establishing framework of customer-oriented traditional shopping in order to enhance efficiency and convenience throughout shopping. This intelligent CFT operates on one ultrasonic and two IR sensors for distance and motion detection of customer respectively, L298 motor driver module for 4 DC geared motors and Arduino UNO as micro-controller in the design to bring paradigm shift in retail dynamics. Percentage performance and speed in meter per second versus distance in centimeter has been observed for our CFT i.e. between 5 cm to 45 cm. This CFT range is selected after testing the workable ultrasonic sensor's range with a safety margin so no other person can disturb the detection of actual customer by coming in between. More than 90 percent performance has been observed on a particular distance of 35cm and 45cm between customer and our proposed CFT. © 2023 IEEE.

In the past few years, image processing has been widely adopted for symptom diagnosis of medical application. To achieve accurate analysis, the medical applications require high quality image for applying to the symptom diagnosis applications. However, the medical image quality may drop due to the imperfection of devices and the environment. Noise is one of the most critical factors that reduces the image quality where the noise may form by combining two types of noises. In this paper, we considered four well-known mixed noise filters including TF, BM3D, NCSR and OSBF filters. Since the OSBF filter is the alternative version of SBF filter that requires to determine the optimal weights, therefore we first determine the optimal weights for the medical image under the combination of Gaussian noise and salt-and-pepper noise. Then, we evaluate the filtering performance under three metrics including PSNR, SSIM and filtering time. As a result, OSBF filter achieves the best filtering performance since it can reduce the noise effect, preserve image details and consumes the short filtering time. On the other hand, the filtering performance of the TF filter suffers from the combining of salt-and-pepper noise. © 2024 IEEE.
