A design of dual-polarized 3-D pattern manipulation structure (DP 3-D PMS) using slotline-based elements is presented for future 6G wireless networks. Firstly, the 3-D slotline element with variable slotline length is analyzed. Using this type of element, a single-polarized PMS is realized to control the reflected wave. Then, the expansion of dual-polarized PMS is obtained by utilizing dual-polarized elements with slotline pairs. Finally, calculations and simulations agree well with each other, showing that the proposed DP 3-D PMS possesses the ability to effectively manipulate the reflected wave within an angle range of 45°. © 2023 IEEE.

Dual-buck (DB) structured ac-ac converters are becoming advanced due to their inherent protection from open- and short-circuit risks, and elimination of commutation issue. However, the existing DB ac-ac converters provide restricted bipolar voltage operations with a large semiconductor device count and underutilized inductors. This article proposed a new reduced switch DB ac-ac converter without commutation issue. The propose converter provides multiple buck-boost voltage operations with noninverting and inverting outputs, making it a flexible topology for various ac voltage applications. The propose converter exhibits the continuous input and output currents irrespective of operation mode, and performs well with nonunity power factor loads. The positive and negative voltage gains of the proposed converter can address the grid voltage sag and swell issues, respectively, making it right candidate for application as dynamic voltage restorer. A detailed comparative evaluation is carried out with existing DB converters, which validated the effectiveness of the proposed converter, including;reduced semiconductor device count and their power ratings, reduced inductor sizes with improved magnetic utilization, enhanced voltage compensation ranges, and better efficiency. A laboratory scale hardware prototype of the proposed converter is built and thoroughly tested to validate its operation. © 1982-2012 IEEE.

To address the low-voltage, high-current requirements in hydrogen production applications, a virtual 48-pulse three-phase rectifier is proposed, and achieves the equivalent performance of four parallel 12-pulse rectifiers (12-PR). The proposed approach builds upon the conventional 12-PR design and incorporates novel asymmetric current injection units (ACIU). The ACIU is installed on the dc side of the ac-dc converter, generating a specific current at the dc link to modulate and enhance the operating modes of the 12-PR. Consequently, the 12-pulse is extended to 48, resulting in an almost sinusoidal input current with a total harmonic distortion of 3.2% and an output current with a ripple rate of 2.3%, thus significantly improving power quality. Furthermore, the asymmetric design of the current injection units eliminates the need for a phase-shifting transformer. The efficacy of the proposed rectifier for electrolytic hydrogen production is validated using a 2.2-kW experimental prototype. © 1986-2012 IEEE.

The whispering gallery mode (WGM) microcavity is a widely used microresonator. With its ultra-high quality factor Q (above 109 ) and small mode volume (µm3 ), it can amplify the interaction between substances. The giant magnetostrictive material Terfenol-D is a rare earth material that can respond to changes in the magnetic field. With its ultra-high magnetostrictive coefficient (1500∼2000 ppm), ultra-fast response speed(less than 1 µs ), and efficient energy conversion efficiency (about 50%), it is widely used in magnetic field sensors. Therefore, a high-sensitivity cavity optomechanical magnetometer can be designed and manufactured by combining the WGM and Terfenol-D. By analyzing the inherent characteristic frequency and magnetostrictive material characteristics of the cavity optomechanical magnetometer, the sensitivity of the magnetometer in magnetic field detection is greatly improved by mixing the bias magnetic field with the excitation magnetic field. In our simulation, compared with the environment without bias magnetic field, the deformation of the cavity optomechanical magnetometer is about 106 times higher of the original after adding the bias magnetic field, which will greatly enhance the detection sensitivity of the excitation magnetic field and provide an effective method for detecting biomagnetic signals. © 2023 SPIE.

Natural Language Processing (NLP) models are one of the most promising topics nowadays. Applications like ChatGPT uncover the power of such models and their broad applications. However, developing such models requires an extensive amount of training data sets to operate on. As such data sets grow, it becomes impossible to process them on a single machine, even using parallel computations. In this paper, the problem of distributing the NLP computations is taken into consideration. The Scalable Distributed Two-Layer Data Structures were used to organize the distributed environment. Stanford Core NLP library was used to perform accurate NLP computations. The experiments focused on the efficiency of the computation in the distributed environment and the accuracy of the predictions in relation to the scale of the distributions. The results clearly show that an increase in performance can be obtained without a significant decrease in accuracy. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

In this work, a method of reshaping the radiation pattern of an open-circuited EH1-mode bidirectional leaky-wave antenna is presented. Initially, it is found that an off-broadside radiation pattern is generated from the open-circuited EH1-mode bidirectional leaky-wave antenna. This is due to that several pairs of opposite magnetic currents exist on the antenna aperture. Afterwards, the opposite magnetic currents are reshaped to be with the same directions by introducing the microstrip EH1-mode component properly. Such a way, a single high-gain beam can be generated at broadside. The operation principles of the presented hybrid-mode unit are investigated by analyzing its electric-field distributions. Finally, a prototype containing 4 hybrid-mode units is practically implemented. The simulation and measurement both indicate that the original off-broadside radiation pattern is well reshaped to the desired single high-gain beam at broadside. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper investigated the predictive capabilities of three decision tree models for IoT botnet attack prediction using packet information while minimizing the number of predictors. The study employed three decision tree models (C5, CHAID, and Random Forest) and two additional models (Logistic Regression and Bayesian Network) for comparison purposes. The IoT botnet attack dataset comprised various devices, mainly two types of attacks (Gafgyt and Mirai) and 23 feature engineering variables. Simulation results from all models showed that Accuracy, Precision, Recall, and False Omission Rate (FOR) values are approximately one, with an F1 score of around 0.5. CHAID and C5 models outperform other models in predicting IoT botnet attacks, as they are developed using only four and two variables, respectively. These results demonstrated that decision tree models with fewer variables can perform better than models that utilize all predictors. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper deals with examining the possibility of peer grading when ranking graphical user interface (GUI) design images. The assessment was made on real images created by students on a GUI design course. Students' assignments to design a graphical user interface were being subjected to pairwise comparison and ranking was made based on pairwise comparison matrix. Obtained students' ranking was compared to experts' opinion using Spearman's and Kendall's metrics. The results suggest the possibility of using students' peer to peer grades to obtain objective rank from their subjective comparisons. © 2023 IEEE.

Large information datasets often impose an immense number of features where many are found redundant and thus inessential for statistical analysis. In the past, a data preprocessing phase was formalized to cope with the problem and take appropriate remedial measures. Traditionally, this was a fixed and stationary process that suffered from a lack of transparency and high susceptibility to input variations. This paper presents a novel and fully automated meta-heuristic nature-inspired wrapper-based feature selection framework DynFS with dynamically cutting search space. In this paper, the problem was the realization of a SCADA system (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) and an automation system for the system of the wastewater treatment plant in Cantemir, Moldova. The use of innovative treatment methods based on revolutionary industrial principles, such as Imhoff, reduces maintenance costs, increases energy efficiency and contributes to improving the quality of the water that is fed by the people who live in this city. Following the implementation of the SCADA automated system, water remains free of microorganisms, parasites or substances that, by number or concentration, constitute a potential danger to human health, and energy efficiency in an automation system is an important point that is analyzed and implemented in each electromechanical system separately, to reduce system maintenance costs and increase flexibility. © 2023 IEEE.
