E-learning can lead learners to achieve learning outcomes if it is designed based on several principles. One is applying assessments that motivate and inform ability levels. In Outcome-based Education (OBE), assessment is integral to the system. However, e-learning has limitations in providing assessment instruments according to needs, such as assessing complex and detailed aspects and accommodating a variety of numerical and linguistic assessment data. Moreover, the presence and involvement of learners affect their performance and learning outcomes. This study proposes a learner assessment system in e-learning with the OBE approach, including learning design, activity performance analysis, ability level determination, and recommendations. This system adds the e-rubric to e-learning to overcome instrument limitations and accommodate comprehensive assessments. Various numerical and linguistic assessment data are unified using 2-tuple fuzzy linguistics, producing ability levels as two tuples. Performance analysis was based on event log data using descriptive statistical technique and alignment-based conformance checking, from frequency, time, and sequence of activity objects, resulting in five activity performance variables. The performance value of each variable is converted into High, Medium, or Low levels. The ability and performance levels are processed using rule-based methods to produce recommendations for learning stages and activity performance directions. The results of this research can be used as input for academic stakeholders and online learning providers and potentially be applied to the advancement of e-learning in higher education. © Authors retain all copyrights.

During vapour phase soldering, the lateral size of the specimen tray determines the number of assemblies that can be soldered at once. Increased productivity, thus less power consumption can be achieved by increasing the size of the tray, and the workspace of the oven; therefore, also the size of the machine. This means significant additional costs both in terms of machine design and the amount of heat transfer fluid used. The aim of our research was to find out how we can increase the productivity of an industrial grade oven and improve the technology for a more energy efficient production, without making any significant retrofitting modifications. By stacking multiple printed circuit boards (PCB), we could increase the number of PCBs that could be soldered at once up to three times. We designed a sample holder with reduced mass, which shortened the cycle time. We performed comparative tests in several vertical configurations, compared to the default setup. We examined the resulting thermal profiles, performed shear tests, examined the surface of the cracks with optical microscopy, and also performed a cross section analysis. The results show that the solder joint quality was degraded due to increased void formation; however, the overall product quality might fit the requirements of commercial electronics.

Currently, the number of scenarios for using VR (Virtual Reality) technology grows every year. Yet, there are still issues associated with it, related with the performance of the mobile device itself. The aim of this work is to perform an analysis of the effectiveness of virtual reality applications in case of mobile platforms. We put the main emphasis on examining the performance and efficiency of four different hardware and software platforms, evaluated in a number of research scenarios, related with typical user activities. The performance of various consumer devices running Android OS was assessed using selected benchmark applications. Additionally, a custom-build environments was also created to facilitate further testing, including an enhanced HCI (Human-Computer Interface) linking the mobile device, head-mounted googles, and a powerful desktop PC. The performed tests and obtained results can aid any interested individual when choosing the right mobile device, as well as configuring the VR environment, for various UX (User Experience) purposes. In this contribution, we present the Crank-Nicolson finite-difference time-domain (CN-FDTD) method, implemented for simulations of wave propagation in media described by time-fractional (TF) constitutive relations. That is, the considered constitutive relations involve fractional-order (FO) derivatives based on the Grünwald-Letnikov definition, allowing for description of hereditary properties and memory effects of media and processes. Therefore, the TF constitutive relations make it possible to include, in a dielectric response, diffusion processes which are modelled mathematically by the diffusion-wave equation. We formulate fundamental equations of the proposed CN-FDTD method, and then we execute simulations which confirm its accuracy and applicability. Additionally, we perform numerical tests of stability, which confirm unconditional stability of the method. The proposed method is useful for researchers investigating numerical techniques in media described by FO derivatives.

USV (unmanned surface vehicle) is gaining more popularity due to its usage for commercial and military purposes. There are various aspects that important for USV, one of them is heading control. In this paper, we present the implementation of integral state feedback controller which is tuned using coefficient diagram method. The controller design and experiments are carried out using MATLAB. It is verified that the settling time for our controller is 0.717 seconds, which is faster than the previous works. The results also show that it has no steady state error and good capability against disturbance. © 2022 IEEE.

Today’s smartphones have more and more features that so far were only assigned to personal computers. Every year these devices are composed of better and more efficient components. Everything indicates that modern smartphones are replacing ordinary computers in various activities. High computing power is required for tasks such as image processing, speech recognition and object detection. This paper analyses the performance of the OpenCL (Open Compute Language) environment on mobile devices, which is a library dedicated to high-speed parallel computing. This paper examines how smartphones can access a library that, as it turned out, is not officially supported on the Android platform, and briefly describes the evaluated library. As a part of the study, this API (Application Programming Interface) was tested in the context of the achieved computing power, memory flow rate, speed of matrix multiplication and the possibility of processing the image from the camera in real-time. The obtained results were presented in graphical format, described and commented. We also provide an insight on applications that use this API for teaching deep neural networks, image processing, etc. Copyright © 2022 by SCITEPRESS – Science and Technology Publications, Lda. We present the procedure that allows one to establish the maximum time-step size guaranteeing stable finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulations in media described by time-fractional constitutive relations. The considered relations involve fractional-order (FO) derivatives based on the GrünwaldLetnikov definition, which describes hereditary properties and memory effects of media and processes. Therefore, the current values of the electromagnetic field in the FDTD iterative procedure depend on all the previous ones, which is a new type of computational scheme for this method. In this contribution, we focus on the derivation of a new stability condition for such an FDTD computational *** formulate fundamental equations of the proposed FDTD method and, then, derive the stability condition. In the next step, we analyse the properties of this condition on the complex plane based on the characteristic equation of the method. Our results are useful for researchers investigating numerical techniques for modeling electromagnetic processes described by the diffusion-wave equation and FO derivatives.

Currently, there is a lot of previous generation NVIDIA GTX graphical processing units (GPUs) available on the market, which were ousted from by next-gen RTX units. Due to this fact, numerous fully-operational devices remain underused, which are available at an affordable price. First, this paper presents an analysis of the cryptocurrency market. Next, in this context, the results of research on the performance of NVIDIA graphics cards with dedicated software as a cryptocurrency mining platform. The research included three hardware platforms: GTX 480 x1, GTX 480 x2 and GTX 760 x1, tested under four cryptocurrencies, namely: Bitcoin, Litecoin, Monero and Ethereum. The custom-build test bench included power consumption as well as the efficiency of mining various digital currencies. In this contribution, a new numerical test for the stability evaluation of analog circuits is presented. Usually, if an analog circuit is unstable then the roots of its characteristic equation are localized on the right half-plane of the Laplace s- plane. Because this region is unbounded, we employ the bilinear transformation to map it into the unit disc on the complex plane. Hence, the existence of any root inside the unit disc implies circuit instability. In our test, we employ the global roots and poles finding algorithm based on phase analysis to detect the roots of the characteristic equation inside the unit disc. Unlike other stability tests, our approach allows one to evaluate the stability of analog circuits and systems whose characteristic equations are not polynomials. In order to demonstrate its efficiency, generality and applicability, we analyze a memristor-based chaotic circuit whose stability depends on the value of the fractional-order parameter. The proposed test correctly detects the parameter ranges of either stability or instability for the considered analog circuit.

A numerical method for stability testing of fractional exponential systems including delays is presented in this contribution. We propose the numerical test of stability for a very general class of systems with a transfer function, which includes polynomials and exponentials of fractional powers of the Laplace variable s combined with delay terms. Such a system is unstable if any root of its characteristic equation, which usually involves transcendental functions, is localized on the right half-plane of the s-domain. Due to the infinite size of the right half-plane, the bilinear transformation is employed to map it onto the unit disc on the complex plane. Then, the global roots and poles finding algorithm based on phase analysis is executed on the unit disc. That is, the roots of the characteristic equation for the considered system are detected with the use of an efficient algorithm based on domain meshing and Cauchy’s argument principle. In order to demonstrate the efficiency and applicability of the proposed numerical method, we executed stability tests for fractional exponential delay systems, which are considered benchmarking cases in other publications. It occurs that, each time, the proposed method correctly evaluates the system stability. However, unlike other methods, it is a very general technique that allows evaluation of almost any system, which does not require any preprocessing of the characteristic equation to execute the stability test.
