A State-Migration Particle Swarm Optimizer for Adaptive Latent Factor Analysis of High-Dimensional and Incomplete Data

High-dimensional and incomplete(HDI) matrices are primarily generated in all kinds of big-data-related practical applications. A latent factor analysis(LFA) model is capable of conducting efficient representation learning to an HDI matrix,whose hyper-parameter adaptation can be implemented through a particle swarm optimizer(PSO) to meet scalable ***, conventional PSO is limited by its premature issues,which leads to the accuracy loss of a resultant LFA model. To address this thorny issue, this study merges the information of each particle's state migration into its evolution process following the principle of a generalized momentum method for improving its search ability, thereby building a state-migration particle swarm optimizer(SPSO), whose theoretical convergence is rigorously proved in this study. It is then incorporated into an LFA model for implementing efficient hyper-parameter adaptation without accuracy loss. Experiments on six HDI matrices indicate that an SPSO-incorporated LFA model outperforms state-of-the-art LFA models in terms of prediction accuracy for missing data of an HDI matrix with competitive computational ***, SPSO's use ensures efficient and reliable hyper-parameter adaptation in an LFA model, thus ensuring practicality and accurate representation learning for HDI matrices.

Common Information Model (CIM) is an essential technique for ensuring interoperability in Energy Management systems (EMS) by defining data profiles for information exchange. Given the changing system environment, CIM undergoes periodic revisions, necessitating updates to the profiles used in EMS. However, comparing and interpreting CIM as defined in the Unified Modeling Language (UML) can be time-consuming and may lead to human errors. In this context, this study proposes systematic approaches for managing data profiles using an automatic tracking function for CIM and a structured process for profile management. The effectiveness of this approach is demonstrated by applying it to profiles defining the key functions of Korea's advanced distribution management system (ADMS), such as operational limits, renewable energy sources, and power transformers. This research can serve as a guideline for addressing practical issues in securing interoperability in ADMS. © 2024 Korean institute of electrical Engineers. All rights reserved.

In blockchain networks, transactions can be transmitted through channels. The existing transmission methods depend on their routing information. If a node randomly chooses a channel to transmit a transaction, the transmission may be aborted due to insufficient funds(also called balance) or a low transmission rate. To increase the success rate and reduce transmission delay across all transactions, this work proposes a transaction transmission model for blockchain channels based on non-cooperative game *** balance, channel states, and transmission probability are fully considered. This work then presents an optimized channel transaction transmission algorithm. First, channel balances are analyzed and suitable channels are selected if their balance is sufficient. Second, a Nash equilibrium point is found by using an iterative sub-gradient method and its related channels are then used to transmit transactions. The proposed method is compared with two state-of-the-art approaches: Silent Whispers and Speedy Murmurs. Experimental results show that the proposed method improves transmission success rate, reduces transmission delay,and effectively decreases transmission overhead in comparison with its two competitive peers.

Cancer is the leading cause of premature mortality. Globally, the prevalence of cancer is on the rise, and early-stage diagnosis is crucial for cancer recovery and survival. However, the presence of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and heterogeneity within the tumor makes it hard to track how cancer changes over time and how resistance to treatment develops. Unfortunately, the cancer diagnosis precision remains inadequate, endangering precious human lives and necessitating costly procedures for accurate treatment. Machine learning (ML) has proven capable of discovering meaningful information and making predictions, particularly with large datasets. Moreover, quantum computers (QCs) inherently possess superposition and parallel computation, features not found in classical computing. researchers have demonstrated that quantum neural networks (QNNs) achieve a significantly better effective dimension than classical NNs. In this context, this study investigates the application of classical and quantum machine learning (QML) algorithms to classify breast cancer images. Region-based segmentation is used to identify regions of interest and image processing algorithms are performed on segmented breast cancer images to extract meaningful features (e.g., perimeter, area, compactness). An user interface (UI) based software is created to swiftly distinguish benign and malignant instances during image analysis. Although QNNs perform poorly than the classical NNs, there is still a long way to go in developing feature maps and techniques for better performance. In contrast, the classical NNs have gone a long way with well-established algorithms and packages available to us. This research shows that with further development, QML has the potential to enhance cancer diagnosis accuracy and speed, ultimately improving early detection and treatment outcomes. © 2025 IEEE.

Voice pathology detection is crucial for early diagnosis and treatment of vocal disorders. This research studies the effect of balanced and imbalanced datasets on the accuracy of voice pathology detection using Online Sequential Extreme Learning Machine (OSELM) on the Saarbruecken Voice Database (SVD). The dataset's balance has been identified as having a significant influence on the performance of the machine learning models. In this work, the voice signals from vowel /a/ of pathology and non-pathology classes are taken from SVD. The dataset is divided into two category which are balanced and imbalanced dataset. Then, the features of the voice signals are then extracted using Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficient (MFCC) and fed into classifier called OSELM. The result of balanced and imbalanced dataset is assessed for its accuracy. The results showed that the model achieved an accuracy of 66.25% with the balanced dataset compared to 48% for the imbalanced dataset. These findings highlight the importance of addressing dataset balance to enhance the reliability and effectiveness of voice pathology detection systems. © 2024 IEEE.

The efficient operation of the unified Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) - Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) systems is important for enhancing data sensing, communication, and computation processes in next-generation wireless systems. Despite prior research focusing on these systems, little attention has been given to optimizing the device-edge server associations. This paper addresses this gap by introducing the novel two-stage device-edge server association Synergia framework. Firstly, representative utility functions capture the characteristics of the devices and MEC servers by jointly considering their sensing, communication, and computation characteristics. Secondly, the Estimated Synergia framework leverages the Matching Theory to rapidly determine an initial device-server matching by disregarding the devices' externalities, i.e., the matching decisions of other devices. Thirdly, the Accurate Synergia model refines and improves this matching by using the coalition formation games, while considering the devices' externalities in optimizing the utilities of both the devices and the MEC servers. Extensive numerical evaluations demonstrate the Synergia's operational efficiency and scalability, outperforming reinforcement learningbased approaches. Also, a real-world application involving car accident detection validates its applicability. © 2024 IEEE.

Crowdsourcing plays a critical role in modern information gathering and task execution, yet it faces challenges regarding the task selection and equitable monetary incentives distribution. In this paper, we introduce the TOPMG framework, which addresses these challenges by enabling the workers to select tasks based on their historically experienced monetary incentives and the platforms' trustworthiness. Specifically, the TOPMG framework utilizes a reinforcement learning approach based on the principles of Optimistic Q-learning with Upper Confidence Bound (OQ-UCB) algorithm, guiding the platform selection process by considering the workers' monetary incentives, profit, and the platforms' trustworthiness. Also, the proposed framework introduces a multilateral bargaining game to allocate the platforms' monetary incentives to the workers by prioritizing their information contribution, fairness, and the platforms' reputation. Simulation results demonstrate TOPMG's operational dynamics, scalability, and efficacy, as well as its superiority over existing methodologies. © 2024 IEEE.

Changes in the Atmospheric Electric Field Signal(AEFS)are highly correlated with weather changes,especially with thunderstorm ***,little attention has been paid to the ambiguous weather information implicit in AEFS *** this paper,a Fuzzy C-Means(FCM)clustering method is used for the first time to develop an innovative approach to characterize the weather attributes carried by ***,a time series dataset is created in the time domain using AEFS *** AEFS-based weather is evaluated according to the time-series Membership Degree(MD)changes obtained by inputting this dataset into the ***,thunderstorm intensities are reflected by the change in distance from a thunderstorm cloud point charge to an AEF ***,a matching relationship is established between the normalized distance and the thunderstorm dominant MD in the space ***,the rationality and reliability of the proposed method are verified by combining radar charts and expert *** results confirm that this method accurately characterizes the weather attributes and changes in the AEFS,and a negative distance-MD correlation is obtained for the first *** detection of thunderstorm activity by AEF from the perspective of fuzzy set technology provides a meaningful guidance for interpretable thunderstorms.

3D laser measurement has a problem that the measurement precision is not sufficient for damage analysis of buildings. In addition, when there is an unevenness in the measurement target, it is difficult to distinguish whether it is an initial shape or damage. In this paper, we propose a method to reduce the measurement error by processing the high-density laser measurement data with statistical methods. In addition, we propose a method to detect the damaged area by comparing the initial shape data of the measured object with the newly measured data. © 2022 Architectural institute of Japan.
