Detection of anomalies in working posture during obstacle avoidance tasks using one-class support vector machine

This study was conducted to evaluate working posture during obstacle avoidance tasks using a one-class support vector machine (SVM), and to compare the efficacy of this method in relation to traditional ergonomic evaluation methods. Eleven right-handed male participants performed reaching tasks in which they were required to move their right arm toward a predefined target position while avoiding obstacles. Working position, obstacle height/width, and obstacle presence varied among the experimental conditions. Working posture and subjective difficulty were assessed for each condition. The one-class SVM was applied to the quaternion of each body segment, which was determined based on measurements of working posture. Rates of postural anomalies were calculated for each experimental condition. The rates of postural anomalies for the right upper limb and head/neck increased as the width of the obstacle increased. Similarly, the subjective difficulty of work increased as obstacle width increased. Observational methods are unable to identify postural anomalies with regard to the right shoulder abduction angle and right lateral bending angle of the neck. However, our findings indicate that the proposed one-class SVM can detect postural anomalies in the right upper limb and head/neck for different obstacle widths. © 2021 Japan Industrial Management Association. This paper deals with stochastic model predictive control (SMPC) based on polynomial chaos expansion (PCE) for linear systems with time-invariant stochastic parametric uncertainties and time-varying stochastic additive disturbances subject to chance constraints on states and inputs. Exploiting terminal ingredients in the SMPC problem and a hybrid update strategy, a recursively feasible optimization problem is formulated. Moreover, stability of the system of PCE coefficients can be shown. Furthermore, in the paper the performance and computational complexity of SMPC based on PCEs is compared to tube-based SMPC and robust model predictive control (RMPC) is analyzed and benefits are demonstrated in simulation.

This paper deals with the upgrade and testing of the of the Ultra-Low Iota Super Elongated Stellarator of the University of the Basque Country. The main upgrades affect to the coil system but also to the microwave source and the data acquisition system. Therefore, it is necessary to update its State-Space model. The updated model is validated by means of experimental output data showing an accurate matching with the real system. Then, in order to test the new model, a Model Predictive control-MPC scheme is successfully implemented both in simulation and experimentally using a real-time control platform. © 2022 IEEE.

In this paper, we address the core challenges of self-stabilization, obstacle detection, and collision avoidance arising when developing autonomous electric scooters for sharing systems. In particular, we firstly demonstrate how an e-scooter can balance itself by the usage of a reaction wheel combined with a braking mechanism. Secondly, we show how a depth-camera can be utilized to generate a grid map representation of the environment surrounding the e-scooter and how this can be used to design a computationally tractable algorithm which ensures obstacle avoidance as well as path following. Finally, the goal of this paper is to provide a starting point for the development of autonomous e-scooters for sharing systems by combining approaches from various research communities in a common application framework.

The recent uptake in popularity in vehicles with zero tailpipe emissions is a welcome development in the fight against traffic induced airborne pollutants. As vehicle fleets become electrified, and tailpipe emissions become less prevalent, non-tailpipe emissions (from tires and brake disks) will become the dominant source of traffic related emissions, and will in all likelihood become a major concern for human health. This trend is likely to be exacerbated by the heavier weight of electric vehicles, their increased power, and their increased torque capabilities, when compared with traditional vehicles. While the problem of emissions from tire wear is well-known, issues around the process of tire abrasion, its impact on the environment, and modelling and mitigation measures, remain relatively unexplored. Work on this topic has proceeded in several discrete directions including: on-vehicle collection methods;vehicle tire-wear abatement algorithms and controlling the ride characteristics of a vehicle, all with a view to abating tire emissions. Additional approaches include access control mechanisms to manage aggregate tire emissions in a geofenced area with other notable work focussing on understanding the particle size distribution of tire generated PM, the degree to which particles become airborne, and the health impacts of tire emissions. While such efforts are already underway, the problem of developing models to predict the aggregate picture of a network of vehicles at the scale of a city, has yet to be considered. Our objective in this paper is to present one such model, built using ideas from Markov chains. Applications of our modelling approach are given toward the end of this note, both to illustrate the utility of the proposed method, and to illustrate its application as part of a method to collect tire dust particles. © 2021, CC BY.

In the research of vascular interventional surgery robotic system, the force information acquisition of surgical tools (guidewires and catheters) has a significant affect on the safety of surgery, especially the contact force between the catheter tip and vascular wall. Therefore. In order to obtain this contact force, we noticed the pressure sensitive rubber because of its piezoresistive effect and easy processing into any shape. a force sensor based on the pressure sensitive rubber was developed in this paper. Once a force is applied on the force sensor attached to the catheter tip, the contact force can be approximated by the piezoresistive effect of the pressure sensitive rubber. The feasibility of the developed force sensor was verified by the experiments in “Vitro”. And the results showed that the force sensor was developed in this paper can accurately detect the contact force between the catheter tip and vascular wall at different positions in the vascular model, the extraction of contact force information of catheter tip is of great significance to the safety of surgery, and the application potential of pressure sensitive rubber.

In this paper, the lifting platform structure of the father robot and the development of the insect-inspired biomimetic underwater microrobot are presented. The objective is to decrease the load of microrobot and realize more functions. In previous researchers, the platform of the father robot is fixed, which is not conducive to adopt and release the son robot. The structure of the lifting platform can effectively solve the problem in theory. The insect-inspired microrobot used wood which has high hydrophilism. It causes the body of microrobot increased weight and short-term works. The fillable structure with waterproof character which is made by a 3D printer. The new structure also can be changed weight for achieving different functions underwater efficiently. Then, two kinds of communication between the light source and microrobot like chasing rotation and fixed distance chasing are described in order to prove the feasibility of the software. In all these cases, experimental results show the performance of the microrobot.

Background: Decades of steady improvements in life expectancy in Europe slowed down from around 2011, well before the COVID-19 pandemic, for reasons which remain disputed. We aimed to assess how changes in risk factors and cause-specific death rates in different European countries related to changes in life expectancy in those countries before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: We used data and methods from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2021 to compare changes in life expectancy at birth, causes of death, and population exposure to risk factors in 16 European Economic Area countries (Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, and Sweden) and the four UK nations (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales) for three time periods: 1990–2011, 2011–19, and 2019–21. Changes in life expectancy and causes of death were estimated with an established life expectancy cause-specific decomposition method, and compared with summary exposure values of risk factors for the major causes of death influencing life expectancy. Findings: All countries showed mean annual improvements in life expectancy in both 1990–2011 (overall mean 0·23 years [95% uncertainty interval [UI] 0·23 to 0·24]) and 2011–19 (overall mean 0·15 years [0·13 to 0·16]). The rate of improvement was lower in 2011–19 than in 1990–2011 in all countries except for Norway, where the mean annual increase in life expectancy rose from 0·21 years (95% UI 0·20 to 0·22) in 1990–2011 to 0·23 years (0·21 to 0·26) in 2011–19 (difference of 0·03 years). In other countries, the difference in mean annual improvement between these periods ranged from –0·01 years in Iceland (0·19 years [95% UI 0·16 to 0·21] vs 0·18 years [0·09 to 0·26]), to –0·18 years in England (0·25 years [0·24 to 0·25] vs 0·07 years [0·06 to 0·08]). The purpose of water treatment using ultraviolet radiation is to disrupt the development and multiplication of microorganisms byinhibiting their growth and reproduction. Ultraviolet treatment has emerged as a cost-effective solution for producing clean and potable water of optimal quality, especially in regions where access is challenging and critical. UV water treatment is a sophisticated process that necessitates the collaboration of multidisciplinary teams to address scientific aspects. The implementation of control systems faces challenges, including non-linearity, uncertainty, and latency. Given the significance of water treatment through UV radiation and the imperative to ensure water quality, it is crucial to control both the lamp intensity (UVDose) and the water flow. The main objective of this article is to implement a sliding mode control law and state feedback for the motor of the centrifugal pump using the Bond Graph approach. The aim is to regulate the motor speed and, consequently, the water flow rate. This enables the influencing of the bacteriological attack time of the water, where the exposure time of water to the UV lamp determines the treatment result. The experimental results obtained, along with a comparative study, have allowed us to emphasize the robustness of sliding mode control in comparison to state feedback control.
