Motivation Here, we make available a second version of the BioTIME database, which compiles records of abundance estimates for species in sample events of ecological assemblages through time. The updated version expands version 1.0 of the database by doubling the number of studies and includes substantial additional curation to the taxonomic accuracy of the records, as well as the metadata. Moreover, we now provide an r package (BioTIMEr) to facilitate use of the database. Main Types of Variables Included The database is composed of one main data table containing the abundance records and 11 metadata tables. The data are organised in a hierarchy of scales where 11,989,233 records are nested in 1,603,067 sample events, from 553,253 sampling locations, which are nested in 708 studies. A study is defined as a sampling methodology applied to an assemblage for a minimum of 2 years. Spatial Location and Grain Sampling locations in BioTIME are distributed across the planet, including marine, terrestrial and freshwater realms. Spatial grain size and extent vary across studies depending on sampling methodology. We recommend gridding of sampling locations into areas of consistent size. Time Period and Grain The earliest time series in BioTIME start in 1874, and the most recent records are from 2023. Temporal grain and duration vary across studies. We recommend doing sample-level rarefaction to ensure consistent sampling effort through time before calculating any diversity metric. Major Taxa and Level of Measurement The database includes any eukaryotic taxa, with a combined total of 56,400 taxa. Software Format csv and. SQL.

Aim The urgency for remote, reliable and scalable biodiversity monitoring amidst mounting human pressures on ecosystems has sparked worldwide interest in Passive Acoustic Monitoring (PAM), which can track life underwater and on land. However, we lack a unified methodology to report this sampling effort and a comprehensive overview of PAM coverage to gauge its potential as a global research and monitoring tool. To address this gap, we created the Worldwide Soundscapes project, a collaborative network and growing database comprising metadata from 416 datasets across all realms (terrestrial, marine, freshwater and subterranean). Location Worldwide, 12,343 sites, all ecosystem types. Time Period 1991 to present. Major Taxa Studied All soniferous taxa. Methods We synthesise sampling coverage across spatial, temporal and ecological scales using metadata describing sampling locations, deployment schedules, focal taxa and audio recording parameters. We explore global trends in biological, anthropogenic and geophysical sounds based on 168 selected recordings from 12 ecosystems across all realms. results Terrestrial sampling is spatially denser (46 sites per million square kilometre—Mkm 2 ) than aquatic sampling (0.3 and 1.8 sites/Mkm 2 in oceans and fresh water) with only two subterranean datasets. Although diel and lunar cycles are well sampled across realms, only marine datasets (55%) comprehensively sample all seasons. Across the 12 ecosystems selected for exploring global acoustic trends, biological sounds showed contrasting diel patterns across ecosystems, declined with distance from the Equator, and were negatively correlated with anthropogenic sounds. Main Conclusions PAM can inform macroecological studies as well as global conservation and phenology syntheses, but representation can be improved by expanding terrestrial taxonomic scope, sampling coverage in the high seas and subterranean ecosystems, and spatio-temporal replication in freshwater habitats. radiative cooling of the thermally isolated system is investigated in KAGrA gravitational wave telescope. KAGrA is a laser interferometer-based detector and main mirrors constituting optical cavities are cool down to 20K to reduce noises caused by the thermal fluctuation. The mirror is suspended with the multi-stage pendulum to isolate any vibration. Therefore, this mirror suspension system has few heat links to reduce vibration injection. Thus, this system is mainly cooled down with thermal radiation. In order to understand the process of radiative cooling of the mirror, we analyzed cooling curve based on mass and specific heat. As a result, it was newly found that a cryogenic part called 'cryogenic duct-shield' seems to have large contribution in the beginning of the mirror cooling. This finding will help to design new cooling system for the next generation cryogenic gravitational wave detector.

In building construction, steel beam assembly has been considered as one of the most dangerous manual operations. In this paper, applying robotic technologies to the steel beam assembly task is discussed. Employing the robotic systems to automate such construction tasks gives the following advantages: saving construction time and cost, enhancing operator's safety, and improving overall quality. The automated robotic assembly system presented in the paper consists of a robotic bolting device, a robotic mobile mechanism, and a bolting control system including human-machine interface. The robotic bolting device, which includes a bolting end-effector and a robotic manipulator, performs actual bolting operation. Utilizing the robotic mobile mechanism composed of a rail sliding boom mechanism and a scissors-jack type mobile manipulator, the robotic assembly system can be transported to a target position for bolting operation. The bolting control system plays a role of safely and efficiently operating the robotic assembly system employing a hole recognition system based on vision technology and a haptic based HMI (Human-Machine Interface) system. This paper includes the major components of the entire robot system that have been built and the future plans to integrate them.

The image sequence of a static scene includes similar or redundant information over time. Hence, motion-discontinuous instants can efficiently characterize a video shot or event. However, such instants (key frames) are differently identified according to the change of velocity and acceleration of motion, and such scales of change might be different on each sequence of the same event. In this paper, we present a scalable video abstraction in which the key frames are obtained by the maximum curvature of camera motion at each temporal scale. The scalability means dealing with the velocity and acceleration change of motion. In the temporal neighborhood determined by the scale, the scene features (motion, color, and edge) can be used to index and classify the video events. Therefore, those key frames provide temporal interest points (TIPs) for the abstraction and classification of video events.

In this paper, the complete measuring system and the method used to calibrate the Stäubli robot (six rotary axes) are presented. The whole procedure improves the robot pose accuracy and requires a relatively low cost equipement: two CCd cameras and a gauge part measured to a high precision on a Coordinate Measuring Machine. The precision improvement is based on both a modelization and an identification of the mechanical structure and the optical calibration tool. Experimental results show both the system validity and the precision that can be reached, in a very short time, with a Stäubli rX130L robot.
