NASA is designing and building a low-cost, scalable, rapidly developed test platform to lower the barrier to entry for entry, descent, and landing (EDL) technologies. This HyperSonic Testing for Entry Platform, HyperSTEP, will enable the low-cost flight demonstration of hypersonic entry technologies, leveraging a publishable government reference design to further enable future government and industry landers. The HyperSTEP vehicle leverages a lifting body shape that was originally designed for a NASA human-class Mars mission concept vehicle, the CobraMRV. Lifting body vehicles offer increased volume efficiency and greater range control capabilities over capsules, making them an attractive class of vehicles to further develop for small to large payload return missions from the Moon, Mars, and beyond. Progress has been made in the development of the HyperSTEP vehicle in the areas of aerodynamics, aerothermodynamics, structural design and packaging, propulsion, guidance navigation and control (GN&C), decelerators (i.e., parachutes), and the thermal protection system (TPS). This paper details progress made in refining the mission concept of operations (ConOps) for the first notional missions and the development of the aerodynamic and aerothermodynamic databases, GN&C, and parachute system, as the project moves into its build and test phase. © 2025, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Inc, AIAA. In recent years multi-core processors have seen broad adoption in application domains ranging from embedded systems through general-purpose computing to large-scale data centres. Simulation technology for multi-core systems, however, lags behind and does not provide the simulation speed required to effectively support design space exploration and parallel software development. While state-of-the-art instruction set simulators (Iss) for single-core machines reach or exceed the performance levels of speed-optimised silicon implementations of embedded processors, the same does not hold for multi-core simulators where large performance penalties are to be paid. In this paper we develop a fast and scalable simulation methodology for multi-core platforms based on parallel and just-in-time (Jit) dynamic binary translation (Dbt). Our approach can model large-scale multi-core configurations, does not rely on prior profiling, instrumentation, or compilation, and works for all binaries targeting a state-of-the-art embedded multi-core platform implementing the ARCompact instruction set architecture (Isa). We have evaluated our parallel simulation methodology against the industry standard Splash-2 and Eembc MultiBench benchmarks and demonstrate simulation speeds up to 25,307 Mips on a 32-core 86 host machine for as many as 2048 target processors whilst exhibiting minimal and near constant overhead. © 2011 IEEE.

Recent changes in the United States telecommunications industry-both regulatory and market driven-provide an environment for integrating wireless and wireline services and the infrastructure used to provide them. Changes in the industry have created competition in local access, deregulation that allows bundling of services and one-stop shopping, and multiple personal communication services (PCS) licensees, each with the desire to differentiate its service offering with value-added capabilities. Integrating wireless and wireline services enables service providers to offer a seamless wireless/wireline service and help control infrastructure and ongoing administrative costs. This paper highlights some advantages for integrating these systems in the U.S. market today. We describe a vision of the long-term services architecture for a functional solution and several near-term product concepts designed to provide an integrated wireless/wireline service.

Web Service technologies offer a successful way for interoperability among applications. However, although current approaches are beginning to address how to specify non-functional capabilities in Web Services at description level, they have so far failed to propose an acceptable method to decouple the named capabilities from Web Service implementations, resulting in a large amount of code scattered and tangled all over the application. Considering it is our desire to minimize middleware participation in nonfunctional properties management, it is the aim of this paper to describe how aspect-oriented techniques can be used in conjunction with WS-Policy in order to allow the mentioned properties to be completely decoupled at description and implementation level, thus improving their reusability and service maintenance and evolution. © 2006 IEEE.

It has become clear that spacecraft system complexity is reaching a threshold where customary methods of control are no longer affordable or sufficiently reliable. At the heart of this problem are the conventional approaches to systems and software engineering based on subsystem-level functional decomposition, which fail to scale in the tangled web of interactions typically encountered in complex spacecraft designs. Furthermore, there is a fundamental gap between the requirements on software specified by systems engineers and the implementation of these requirements by software engineers. software engineers must perform the translation of requirements into software code, hoping to accurately capture the systems engineer's understanding of the system behavior, which is not always explicitly specified. This gap opens up the possibility for misinterpretation of the systems engineer's intent, potentially leading to software errors. This problem is addressed by a systems engineering methodology called State Analysis, which provides a process for capturing system and software requirements in the form of explicit models. This paper describes how requirements for complex aerospace systems can be developed using State Analysis and how these requirements inform the design of the system software, using representative spacecraft examples. The MODELS series of conferences is the premier venue for the exchange of - novative technical ideas and experiences focusing on a very important new te- nical discipline: model-driven software and systems engineering. The expansion ofthisdisciplineisadirectconsequenceoftheincreasingsigni?canceandsuccess of model-based methods in practice. Numerous e?orts resulted in the invention of concepts, languagesand tools for the de?nition, analysis,transformation, and veri?cationofdomain-speci?cmodelinglanguagesandgeneral-purposemodeling language standards, as well as their use for software and systems engineering. MODELS 2010, the 13th edition of the conference series, took place in Oslo, Norway, October 3-8, 2010, along with numerous satellite workshops, symposia and tutorials. The conference was fortunate to have three prominent keynote speakers: Ole Lehrmann Madsen (Aarhus University, Denmark), Edward A. Lee (UC Berkeley, USA) and Pamela Zave (AT&T Laboratories, USA). To provide a broader forum for reporting on scienti?c progress as well as on experience stemming from practical applications of model-based methods, the 2010 conference accepted submissions in two distinct tracks: Foundations and Applications. The primary objective of the ?rst track is to present new research results dedicated to advancing the state-of-the-art of the discipline, whereas the second aims to provide a realistic and veri?able picture of the current state-- the-practice of model-based engineering, so that the broader community could be better informed of the capabilities and successes of this relatively young discipline. This volume contains the ?nal version of the papers accepted for presentation at the conference from both tracks.

Aspect-oriented programming (AOP) is increasingly gaining in popularity. However, the focus of aspect-oriented language research has been mostly on language design issues;efficient implementation techniques have been less popular. As a result, the performance of certain AOP constructs is still poor. This is in particular true for constructs that rely on dynamic properties of the execution (e.g., the cflow construct).In this paper, we present efficient implementation techniques for cflow that exploit direct access to internal structures of the virtual machine running an application, such as the call stack, as well as the integration of these techniques into the just-in-time compiler code generation *** results show that AOP has the potential to make programs that need to define control flow-dependent behavior not only more modular but also more efficient. By making means for control flow-dependent behavior part of the language, AOP opens the possibility of applying sophisticated compiler optimizations that are out of reach for application programmers. Safety verification of fault-tolerant control systems is essential for the success of autonomous robotic systems. A control architecture called Mission Data System, developed at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, takes a goal-based control approach. In this paper, the development of a method for converting a goal network control program into a hybrid system is given and a process for converting logic associated with the goal network into transition conditions for the hybrid automata is developed. The resulting hybrid system can then be verified for safety in the presence of failures using existing symbolic model checkers. An example task and goal network is designed, converted to hybrid automata, and verified using symbolic model checking software for hybrid systems.
