Succession of microbial communities with VOC changes during composting process

The kitchen waste compost treatment of diesel contaminated soil has the advantages of good bioremediation effect and low treatment cost. However, through understanding the mechanism of microbial degradation of diesel, the disadvantage of biological treatment time in the composting process is too time-consuming. The research results showed that the evolution of microbial communities was affected by physicochemical parameters in the composting process. during the heating period, it was found that Lactobacillus sakei and Escherichia coli were acid producing bacteria. Pseudomonas putida GB-1 is a terpenoid producing bacterium. Bacillus sp. was found to be aldehyde and sulfide producing bacteria during high temperature composting. Brevibacillus borstenensis and Low G + C Gram positive bacteria are ammonia producing bacteria. The microbial degradation mechanism could be deduced according to the VOCs change in compost gas, and the strategies to promote the efficiency of biological treatment in the composting process were provided for reference. © 2023 Elsevier Ltd

In Eswatini, 62.3% of households still rely on solid fuel for cooking, especially wood (61.8%). Smoke emissions during biomass burning remain the primary source of indoor air pollution, comprising pollutants detrimental to health. This study provides a quantitative exposure assessment of fuels used in the Shiselweni region with the objectives of monitoring the carbon monoxide (CO) and carbon dioxide (CO2) concentrations during cooking events and evaluating cancer and noncancer risks due to exposure to particulate-bound polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) during cooking events among cooking personnel in households that cook indoors by burning biomass. Real-time CO, CO2, and particulate matter (PM) monitoring was performed in seventeen kitchens during cooking events across the Shiselweni region using different cooking methods: biomass in open fires and stoves, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and electric stoves. PM2.5, PM10, and CO exceeded indoor exposure guidelines for biomass fuel-related homesteads. Particulate PAH intake concentrations were evaluated, and biomass fuel users exhibited high cancer risks and low embryo survival chances due to particulate PAH exposure. The average total cost of reducing the incremental lifetime cancer risk (ILCR) and hazard quotient (HQ) to acceptable levels was lower when shifting from biomass to LPG stoves than when shifting to electric stoves. Here we demonstrate that cancer metastasis could be modulated by the judicious tuning of physical parameters such as photothermal temperature in nanoparticle-mediated photothermal therapy (PTT). This is supported by theranostic nanosystem design and characterization, in vitro and in vivo analyses, and transcriptome-based gene profiling. In this work, the highly efficient near-infrared II (NIR-II) photoacoustic image (PA)-guided PTT are selectively activated using our developed matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-triggered in situ assembly of gold nanodandelions (GNds@gelatin). Unlike other "always-on" NIR PTT agents lacking specific bioactivation and suffering from the intrinsic nonspecific pseudosignals and treatment-related side effects such as metastasis, our GNds@gelatin possesses important advantages while deployed in cancer PTT that include the following: (1) The theranostic effects could be "turned on" only after specific MMP-2/-9 activity and with acidity in the tumor microenvironment. (2) The quantitative PA diagnosis allows for precise PTT planning for better cancer treatment. (3) GNds@gelatin could noninvasively quantify MMP activity and efficiently harness NIR-I (808 nm) and NIR-II (1064 nm) energies for tumor ablation. (4) The multibranched nanostructures reabsorb scattered laser photons, thus enhancing the surface plasmons for the pronounced photothermal conversion of aggregated GNds@gelatin in situ. (5) It is noteworthy that in situ tumor eradication at higher PTT temperature (>55 °C) mediated by GNds@gelatin could induce subsequent metastasis, which could be otherwise abolished at lower PTT temperatures (50 °C > T > 43 °C). The Covid-19 outbreak in 2020 boosted the stay-at-home economy, causing a surge in electronics industry demand, especially benefiting the LCd panel sector. However, as the pandemic situation improved, countries revised policies, leading to the gradual discontinuation of remote work arrangements in various industries. This resulted in declining dividends for the stay-at-home economy. The decreased demand created intense competition within the TFT-LCd industry, urging panel companies to prioritize product quality enhancement to meet customer expectations. Panel quality inspection heavily relied on manual labor, causing varying inspection levels due to subjective judgments. Understanding and aligning with customer expectations regarding product quality inspections became imperative. Identifying defective products during inspection led to additional costs for the companies. Balancing customer product quality requirements and re-inspection costs became crucial for optimal benefits. This study addresses the binary classification problem of customer-side quality inspection through cost-sensitive learning. The predictive model considers panel process yield, production history, customer feedback, inspection capacity constraints, and cost minimization to predict panel quality as accepted or defective. To tackle the highly imbalanced data, a two-phase cost-sensitive-learning-based framework is proposed, combining data preprocessing methods and models, while considering re-inspection capacity constraints and costs to enhance accuracy. The model’s evaluation uses key performance indicators like AUC and G-mean. Actual inspection cost and defective parts per million (dPPM) are calculated based on the company’s practical assessment. Augmented reality (AR) is a technology that instantly merges digital pictures with the real scene. The perspective near-eye display is a key module of AR, through which computer-generated pictures or videos can be displayed in the existing environment. The purpose of this research is to establish the system structure of an augmented reality near-eye display device and to design the off-axis two-piece reflective aspherical mirror. Because AR glasses are wearable and are worn close to the eyes, not only the optical performance of the display but also the clear vision of the user needs to be considered. In this study, an off-axis two-piece reflective aspherical mirror is used as the optical system of the AR for displaying the digital image. The micro-display is placed at the focal point of the optical system to form a digital image, and the horizontal movement of the micro-display along the optical axis is controlled by a precise displacement mechanism so that the patient with uncorrected myopia or hyperopia can see the digital picture and real scene. Because the right and left micro-displays move horizontally independently, the user can see the images on the AR device, which becomes the biggest feature of this study. © 2023 IEEE.

In this research, we propose a humming-to-instrument conversion system based on cycle-consistent adversarial networks (CycleGAN) to convert human humming to the sound of viola. This research adjusts the weight of cycle-consistency loss and identity loss to successfully convert the sound. From the experimental results of objective RMSE, the converted audio is more similar to viola compared to the similarity to humming. From the results of subjective MOS, the quality of the converted sound is fair to listeners. © 2021 IEEE.

We sought to revolutionize the classification of Attention-deficit/Hyperactivity disorder (AdHd) by pioneering an innovative approach that seamlessly integrated auditory and visual tests with electroencephalogram (EEG) coherence analysis, forming the foundation for our Support Vector Machine (SVM) models. Our primary objective was to achieve precise differentiation between individuals with AdHd and those without, aiming to reshape the landscape of AdHd diagnosis and early intervention. We constructed an SVM model based on CATA coherence, incorporating a carefully selected set of 180 features, and another grounded in CPT coherence with 70 features. Astonishingly, our exploration uncovered that a model incorporating CATA's coherence and Power Spectral density (PSd) as features achieved an astounding accuracy rate of 97.7%, using only half the number of features. This revelation hints at untapped potential for multivariate advancements in the realm of AdHd classification. The landscape of AdHd diagnosis and intervention is perpetually evolving, most notably with the FdA's approval of game therapy for AdHd. Leveraging the transformative power of our findings, we envision the development of user-friendly game therapies for in-home use, empowering both clinicians and parents alike. This marks a paradigm shift in the realm of AdHd intervention, offering objective, data-driven tools for the early management of AdHd. Gamified therapy not only enhances accessibility but also fosters engagement and compliance, all of which are pivotal in the long-term care of individuals with AdHd. In summary, our study represents a significant advancement in our comprehension and classification of AdHd. By fusing auditory and visual tests with EEG coherence analysis, fortified by state-of-the-art machine learning techniques, we have achieved an unprecedented level of accuracy in identifying individuals with AdHd. In this study, a series of Al complexes bearing amidates, thioamidates, ureidates, and thioureidates were synthesized and their catalytic activity for ϵ-caprolactone (CL) polymerization was evaluated. SPr-Al exhibited a higher catalytic activity than OPr-Al (3.2 times as high for CL polymerization;[CL] : [SPr-Al] : [BnOH] = 100 : 0.5 : 2;[SPr-Al] = 10 mM, conv. = 93% after 14 min at 25 °C), and USCl-Al exhibited a higher catalytic activity than UCl-Al (4.6 times as high for CL polymerization;[CL] : [USCl-Al] : [BnOH] = 100 : 0.5 : 2;[USCl-Al] = 10 mM, conv. = 90% after 15 min at 25 °C). Regardless of whether aluminum amidates or ureidates were present, thioligands improved the polymerization rate of aluminum catalysts. density functional theory calculations revealed that the eight-membered ring [SPr-AlOMe2]2 decomposed into the four-membered ring SPr-AlOMe2. However, [OPr-AlOMe2]2 did not decompose because of its strong bridging Al-O bond. The overall activation energy required for CL polymerization was lower when using [SPr-AlOMe2]2 (18.1 kcal mol−1) as a catalyst than when using [OPr-AlOMe2]2 (23.9 kcal mol−1). This is because the TS2a transition state of SPr-AlOMe2 had a more open coordination geometry with a small N-Al-S angle (72.91°) than did TS3c of [OPr-AlOMe2]2, the crowded highest-energy transition state of [OPr-AlOMe2]2 with a larger N-Al-O angle (99.63°). © 2023 The Royal Society of Chemistry.

Supervised learning of deep neural networks heavily relies on large-scale datasets annotated by high-quality labels. In contrast, mislabeled samples can significantly degrade the generalization of models and result in memorizing samples, further learning erroneous associations of data contents to incorrect annotations. To this end, this paper proposes an efficient approach to tackle noisy labels by learning robust feature representation based on unsupervised augmentation restoration and cluster regularization. In addition, progressive self-bootstrapping is introduced to minimize the negative impact of supervision from noisy labels. Our proposed design is generic and flexible in applying to existing classification architectures with minimal overheads. Experimental results show that our proposed method can efficiently and effectively enhance model robustness under severely noisy labels.

Marine diesel engine start-up goes through the following speed stages: dead slow, slow, half, and full. The jacket water should be heated initially to prevent the cylinder from cracking due to excessive temperature difference. In this paper, PId temperature controller and SCAdA system are used to heat the jacket water. Experimental tests have been evaluated to improve closed loop response with PId temperature controller and SCAdA system. The heating mode calls the appropriate PId controller according to the design temperature to compare the actual temperature at different stages. The experimental results show that the PId controller converges the temperature well between 35and 80, the optimal PId parameter are P=3, I=198, d=495 with the auto tune function and the max. power supply current I=8.8A, voltage V=110V. © 2021 IEEE.
