This paper presents an approach for the provision of minute reserve capacity products at the German minute reserve market provided by a pool of electric vehicles. Therefore, the requirements of prequalification for market participation have been analyzed and examined with regard to electric vehicle pools. A mixed integer linear programming model has been developed. It ensures the provision and delivery of capacity products in an optimal way, whilst the electric vehicles charging demands are also ensured.

Model reduction in water systems provides an efficient technique for simplifying complex hydrodynamic models without eliminating the key dynamic attributes, and is inevitable for model-based control. In particular, the first order model with adaptive time delay (ATD) has proven to be suitable for approximating hydrodynamic behavior of river reaches. Experimental results of identifying parameters of ATD models from a complex hydraulic model (e.g., HECRAS) show that the state-of-art of existing methods is not enough, because time constant and time delay mutually interact, are variably and significantly depend on flood wave characteristics. Hence, the present work proposes a procedure to identify these parameters. At first, the hydrograph of extreme flood event is generated and analyzed to derive a characteristic hydrograph. Secondly, the typical outflow is simulated by HECRAS model and the inflow and outflow generated from HECRAS are used to estimate parameters of ATD model by nonlinear programming technique. A set of time constant and time delay corresponding to characteristic flood wave will be validated by a specific flood event. This procedure is an advancement of previous methods which model flow by a simplified channel geometry. In addition, it compensates deficiencies of existing methods attempting to fix a time delay as an integer value or a constant value which introduces truncation error during routing process leading to model instability. Therefore, the approach is capable to different types of flow, and returns very promising results in real time flood forecasting and control. © 2016 ASCE.

An approach for an extended market grid operation is introduced in this paper. Therefore a Market system Operator as a new role in the electricity economy is defined and an extended ENTSO-e scheduling system is developed. Additionally a traffic light system for distribution grids is integrated. The special part of renewable energy sources with their specific character is taken into account. The aim is to retain a sustainable and reliable electricity supply system in Germany while and after the energy transition and to keep a free and liberalized electricity market as per specification from EU commission and German government. The approach helps to extend existing procedures without revising existing role models. This strengthens stakeholders and system operators as well as their communication.

system operators use grid services to ensure grid stability and security. In liberalized energy markets, these services are made available through market tenders. Flexible generation and load representing a major part of these grid services. This paper presents the development of a Key Performance Indicator (KPI) based methodology and the evaluation undertaken during the field trial for the project sMobiliTy. The KPIs are developed and benchmarked by deriving generalized requirements through a wide range of grid services in multiple networks. The approach is used to assess and quantify the suitability of electric vehicle pools with respect to technical and market tendering requirements as well as network connection requirements for distributed devices.

The increasing use of fluctuating renewable energy represents a challenge for the German electricity market. Electricity storage plants can provide flexibility to the energy system and the development of new, efficient and economical energy storage technologies is of great importance. In this paper, the use of compressed air energy storage plants in the German electricity market is simulated and a sensitivity analysis is carried out. The optimization of the system is done to minimize at each time step the total system costs. The analysis shows the influence of storage plant parameters such as efficiency, storage capacity and natural gas usage on the dispatch and operation hours. It is performed over one year and for three different future scenarios. The results indicate that utilization of storage plants will increase in each scenario considered from 2025 to 2035 but remains in most cases significantly below the maximum capacity of 3000 h/a power generation. While the operation of storage plants lowers the total electricity cost, earnings per plant and profits are not necessarily positive: the wholesale price signals do not create enough revenues to justify the investment in CAES plants.

The worldwide launch of electric vehicles (EV) requires new approaches of market integration. At present several projects are performed investigating the vehicle-to-grid concept in terms of technical and economic feasibility. Numerous papers in the field of electric vehicle integration exist in national and international research community. It is difficult to compare the contents of these papers because of the different energy supply system and energy markets. Therefore this paper analyses and compares various approaches to integrate EVs into the energy market. The analysis includes worldwide scientific results. This examination results in a qualitative as well as a quantitative evaluation of vehicle-to-grid concepts. The results support two targets. First, the evaluation is used to identify the most feasible business case in terms of technical and economic market integration of EVs. And second, the business case is adapted to the German energy supply system and energy market. A detailed description of the German business to integrate EVs is given. Thereby this paper lists and explains the requirements to launch EVs successfully.

This paper describes the Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (UUV) Simulator, an extension of the open-source robotics simulator Gazebo to underwater scenarios, that can simulate multiple underwater robots and intervention tasks using robotic manipulators. This is achieved mainly through a set of newly implemented plugins that model underwater hydrostatic and hydrodynamic effects, thrusters, sensors, and external disturbances. In contrast to existing solutions, it reuses and extends a general-purpose robotics simulation platform to underwater environments.

Small hydropower plants (SHP) are increasingly constructed in recent years as a substitution of the use of conventional energy materials such as wood and fossil fuel in remote rural regions. Besides new constructed plants, upgrading operational strategies of existed systems for increasing electricity productivity is also significant. Motivated by this issue, a combination of two techniques, simulation and optimization based on models is frequently used to improve the operation regimes of coordinated reservoir cascades. However, the application of a complex hydraulic model consumes a huge computation time. Hence, this paper proposes a replacement for the complex hydraulic model by an adaptive time delay (ATD) model. The cutting- edge point is that the ATD model is able to quickly predict the system dynamics both in simulation and optimization. This ATD model consists of only two parameters: time constant and time delay which are functions of unsteady flow and can be easily derived from complex hydraulic models (HECRAS, MIKE11), or from physical parameters of rivers (flow rate, roughness, bed slope, cross section). The integration of the ATD model into the simulation and optimization techniques will be demonstrated by a case study of a cascade of SHPs. In terms of optimization, a non-linear constrainted optimization algorithm is applied to improve electricity production to meet the scheduled demand.

The nationwide launch of electric vehicles (EV) requires new approaches of market integration. The controlled charging of EVs offers a possibility to trade at the energy as well as the reserve power market. New actors enter the energy market to perform business cases in terms of trading aggregated capacities. But the economy differs between the business cases. This paper describes a calculation model which evaluates the economy of business cases by quantitative parameters. Furthermore four businesses cases are defined from the point of view of an aggregator. The business cases base on an international comparison of approaches to integrate EVs into the energy market. The developed economy model is used to evaluate the business cases. The result is the economically most suitable business case.

The detection of stages of anaesthesia is mainly performed on evaluating the vital signs of the patient. In addition the frontal one-channel electroencephalogram can be evaluated to increase the correct detection of stages of anaesthesia. As a classification model fuzzy rules are used. These rules are able to classify the stages of anaesthesia automatically and were optimized by multiobjective evolutionary algorithms. As a result the performance of the generated population of fuzzy rule sets is presented. A concept of the construction of an autonomic embedded system is introduced. This system should use the generated rules to classify the stages of anaesthesia using the frontal one-channel electroencephalogram only. © 2015 by Walter de Gruyter GmbH, Berlin/Boston 2015.
