The detection of stages of anaesthesia is mainly performed on evaluating the vital signs of the patient. In addition the frontal one-channel electroencephalogram can be evaluated to increase the correct detection of stages of anaesthesia. As a classification model fuzzy rules are used. These rules are able to classify the stages of anaesthesia automatically and were optimized by multiobjective evolutionary algorithms. As a result the performance of the generated population of fuzzy rule sets is presented. A concept of the construction of an autonomic embedded system is introduced. This system should use the generated rules to classify the stages of anaesthesia using the frontal one-channel electroencephalogram only. © 2015 by Walter de Gruyter GmbH, Berlin/Boston 2015.

Recently,underwater vehicles have become low cost,reliable and affordable platforms for performing various underwater *** many aquaculture systems are closed with no harmful output,open net cage fish farms and land-based fish farms can discharge significant amounts of wastewater containing nutrients,chemicals,and pharmaceuticals that impact on the surrounding *** aquaculture development has often occurred outside a regulatory framework,government oversight is increasingly common at both the seafood quality control level,and at baseline initiatives addressing the basic problem of pollution generated by culture operations,*** European marine and maritime *** requires regular,sustainable and cost-effective monitoring of the water *** monitoring needs devices to detect the water quality in a large sea area at different depths in real *** paper presents a concept for a guidance system for a carrier(an autonomous underwater vehicle)of such devices for the automated detection and analysis of water quality parameters.

The nationwide launch of electric vehicles (EV) requires new approaches of market integration. The controlled charging of EV offers a possibility to trade at the energy market in particular at the reserve power market. New actors enter the energy market to perform the business case of trading secondary reserve power which leads to a change in the market role model. But not all actors benefit from this business in the same way. Some are more suited than others. This paper describes the adapted role model which includes all new EV-related market actors. Furthermore a new approach to evaluate the feasibility for different actors to perform the regarded business case is presented. The cost-utility-analysis calculates individual values for each actor by quantifying soft parameters and describes his capability. Using a case study this paper compares the capability of three different market actors - a car manufacturer, an energy supplier and a grid operator.

Medium term, the availability of controllable decentralized feeders and loads within the low-voltage distribution grid provides grid operators with a major challenge but also a great opportunity. Either expansion of the local network area and thus the ability to transport and distribute every kW of power and each kWh of energy. Or the efficient use of the existing infrastructure by appropriate measures to reach a local balance between supply and consumption. In this work, two main process approaches developed within the project sMobiliTy are introduced. Aim is the use of available network capacity as flexibility to integrate controllable resources in the liberalized energy market, taking account of the distribution grid. It will be presented on the example of electric vehicles.

In the project SmartRegion Pellworm, a virtual power plant (VPP) consisting of renewable power plants, battery storage systems and electric storage heaters on household level is simulated, analyzed and demonstrated in real operation. This paper presents the modelling approach developed in the project to simulate and evaluate a VPP pursuing different operation strategies. These include a market driven, a grid supportive, a local supply oriented and a multifunctional strategy. A key component of the modelling approach is a mixed integer linear programming model for the optimization of VPP operation planning. The simulation results for the real test case on the German island Pellworm show that multifunctional operation is a promising solution to serve multiple stakeholders. However, market driven operation proves to be most profitable in the given market framework. First insights from the field test show how the simulated operation strategies are transferred to an energy management system for online VPP operation.

Nowadays an accurate modeling of the system to be controlled is essential for reliable autopilot. This paper presents a non-linear model of the autonomous underwater vehicle “CWolf”. Matrices and the corresponding coefficients generate a parameterized representation for added mass, Coriolis and centripetal forces, damping, gravity and buoyancy, using the equations of motion, for all six degrees of freedom. The determination of actuator behaviour by surge tests allows the conversion of propeller revolutions to the respective forces and moments. Based on geometric approximations, the coefficients of the model can be specified by optimization algorithms in “open loop” sea trials. The realistic model is the basis for the subsequent design of the autopilot. The reference variables used in the four decoupled adaptive PID controllers for surge, heading, pitch and heave are provided a “Line of Sight” - guidance system. A constraint criteria optimization determines the required controller parameters. The verification by “closed loop” sea trials ensures the results.

If a natural disaster like an earthquake or an accident in a chemical or nuclear plant hits a populated area, rescue teams have to get a quick overview of the situation in order to identify possible locations of victims, which need to be rescued, and dangerous locations, which need to be secured. Rescue forces must operate quickly in order to save lives, and they often need to operate in dangerous environments. Hence, robot-supported systems are increasingly used to support and accelerate search operations. The objective of the SENEKA concept is the situation responsive networking of various robots and sensor systems used by first responders in order to make the search for victims and survivors more quick and efficient. SENEKA targets the integration of the robot-sensor network into the operation procedures of the rescue teams. The aim of this paper is to inform on the objectives and first research results of the ongoing joint research project SENEKA.

In this paper, a fundamental optimization model containing the German generation and energy storage system has been used to analyze the profitability of pumped-storage power plants within the German energy market. As a result of the optimization, energy prices are calculated based on the power plants' marginal costs according to the merit order principle. This paper demonstrates the influence of increasing model accuracy in the underlying optimization model on the optimization results, particularly regarding the profitability of pumped-storage power plants.

The usage of renewable energy is gaining importance due to national and international targets for reduction of CO_2 emissions and consumption of fossil fuels and respective renewable energy deployment goals. Due to the volatile nature of renewable energy and regional potentials for generation in remote areas, there is a need for a better integration of generation and load centers in a common transmission infrastructure. This can be done by establishing a meshed HVDC overlay grid for bulk electricity transmission over long distances. Therefore, this paper describes the outlook for renewable energy deployment by 2050 in the North African region, as well as the potential to export renewable energy to Europe. It analyses the existing AC transmission grid infrastructure and explains why a meshed pan-European-North African HVDC overlay grid will solve the transmission requirements for the target year 2050.
