Considering the concept of a Circular Economy, which entails several life cycles of, e.g., vehicles, their components, and materials, it is important to investigate how the respective Digital Twins are managed over the lifecycle of their physical assets. This publication presents and compares three approaches for managing Digital Twins in industrial use cases. For the aggregation of these approaches, a user-centered design approach has been used in the research project Catena-X which focuses on the automotive industry. The results are analyzed qualitatively based on aspects such as data ownership and data sovereignty. It was identified, that all three approaches have limitations and benefits which make them useful in different scenarios. An overview of their strengths and weaknesses is presented to select an appropriate approach In similar setups. The results described in this publication can be used to select the best update approach in data spaces where multiple stakeholders are able to update information on a single asset. © 2025 The Authors.

Our paper at the 19th IEEE International Conference on software Architecture (ICSA 2022) started by noticing that software Architecture (SA) as research area experienced an increase in empirical research. Empirical research builds a sound foundation for validity and comparability. A current overview of the evaluation and replicability of SA research objects could help to discuss our empirical standards as a community. However, no current overview existed. We assessed the current state of practice of evaluating SA research objects and replication artifact provision in full technical conference papers from ICSA and the European Conference on software Architecture (ECSA) 2017-2021. We first developed a categorization schema for SA research object evaluation and artifact provisioning. In a systematic literature review with 153 papers, we then classified the papers according to that schema. From our findings we derive and describe four proposals for improving the state of practice in evaluating SA research objects. © 2023 Gesellschaft fur Informatik (GI). All rights reserved.

Dataspaces are regarded as a standardized solution for sharing data in a trusted way. However, providing and sharing high-quality data across dataspaces poses several scientific and technical challenges, opening new research avenues. Developing governance models and technologies for supporting cross-domain integration of data and services from the existing single-domain dataspaces represents a significant challenge. In this vision paper, we discuss the challenges for enabling next-generation dataspaces and propose an innovative approach that aims at developing a vision and identifying requirements and building blocks for next-generation dataspaces, followed by defining a roadmap and practical migration paths for the existing dataspaces towards the next-generation dataspaces. © 2024 Copyright for this paper by its authors. Traditional data monetization approaches face challenges related to data protection and logistics. In response, digital data marketplaces have emerged as intermediaries simplifying data transactions. Despite the growing establishment and acceptance of digital data marketplaces, significant challenges hinder efficient data trading. As a result, few companies can derive tangible value from their data, leading to missed opportunities in understanding customers, pricing decisions, and fraud prevention. In this paper, we explore both technical and organizational challenges affecting data monetization. Moreover, we identify areas in need of further research, aiming to expand the boundaries of current knowledge by emphasizing where research is currently limited or lacking. © 2023 Owner/Author.

Digital Twins have evolved as a concept describing digital representations of physical assets. They can be used to facilitate simulations, monitoring, or optimization of product lifecycles. Considering the concept of a Circular Economy, which entails several lifecycles of, e.g., vehicles, their components, and materials, it is important to investigate how the respective Digital Twins are managed over the lifecycle of their physical assets. This publication presents and compares three approaches for managing Digital Twins in industrial use cases. The analysis considers aspects such as updates, data ownership, and data sovereignty. The advent of quantum algorithms has initiated a discourse on the potential for quantum speedups for optimization problems. However, several factors still hinder a practical realization of the potential benefits. These include the lack of advanced, error-free quantum hardware, the absence of accessible software stacks for seamless integration and interaction, and the lack of methods that allow us to leverage the theoretical advantages to real-world use cases. This paper works towards the creation of an accessible hybrid software stack for solving optimization problems, aiming to create a fundamental platform that can utilize quantum technologies to enhance the solving process. We introduce a novel approach that we call Hybrid Meta-Solving, which combines classical and quantum optimization techniques to create customizable and extensible hybrid solvers. We decompose mathematical problems into multiple sub-problems that can be solved by classical or quantum solvers, and propose techniques to semi-automatically build the best solver for a given problem. Implemented in our ProvideQ toolbox prototype, Meta-Solving provides interactive workflows for accessing quantum computing capabilities. Our evaluation demonstrates the applicability of Meta-Solving in industrial use cases. It shows that we can reuse state-of-the-art classical algorithms and extend them with quantum computing techniques. Our approach is designed to be at least as efficient as state-of-the-art classical techniques, while having the potential to outperform them if future advances in the quantum domain are made.
