This paper deals with the implementation of an online platform for Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI), which provides anticipatory and deliberative tools to address societal expectations with regard to resrarch and innovation and mobilises information technology tools for inclusive, responsive and sustainable research. In particular, we have developed a Forum, which is a Web-based application and service for stakeholders (members of the RRI community) to deliberate and discuss about RRI. Different interaction modalities are supported by the Forum, such as: `Caucus Process', Suggestion Board, Partnership Initiative, etc. A special attention is devoted to the Citizen Jury and Tacit Knowledge modules that represent innovative features of our Forum. The outcomes show that our online Forum represents an effective solution to address RRI issues by adopting e-Government and knowledge management approaches. This work was carried out as part of EU FP7 Responsibility project.

In this contribution, we provide an insight into the light-induced degradation of multicrystalline (mc-) silicon caused by copper contamination. Particularly we analyze the degradation kinetics of intentionally contaminated B- and Ga-doped mc-Si through spatially resolved photoluminescence (PL) imaging. Our results show that even small copper concentrations are capable of causing a strong LID effect in both B- and Ga-doped samples. Furthermore, the light intensity, the dopant and the grain quality were found to strongly impact the degradation kinetics, since faster LID was observed with stronger illumination intensity, B-doping and in the grains featuring low initial lifetime. Interestingly after degradation we also observe the formation of bright denuded zones near the edges of the B-doped grains, which might indicate the possible accumulation of copper impurities at the grain boundaries.
The aim of our study is an improved level of geometrical design fidelity of LTCC microsystems by consideration of location-dependent shrinkage under free sintering conditions. To achieve this, the commercial low tempe...

The execution of construction projects such as a highway construction or the elevation of a new bridge is a complex, highly equipment-intensive process and are subject to many different uncertainties. This is very similar to the manufacturing execution level in production systems where predefined productions plans and schedules cannot be completely implemented due to unexpected internal and external changes and disturbances. Following this analogy, the paper proposes the application of a discrete-event simulation based method which was already applied in the decision-support for manufacturing control to develop the decision-support in the execution of a construction project where the effects of the deviation from the short-term schedule can be easily and quickly analyzed.

Accurate representation of geometry-related parameters is a prerequisite for the generation of building thermal simulation models. In case geometric data are extracted from IFC files, three types of geometrical errors are often encountered: clash errors where two building solids intersect, space definition errors where a building space volume is incorrectly defined leaving volume gaps between the space and neighboring building entities (walls, slabs,...) and surface orientation errors, where the normal vector of some boundary surfaces of building solids points to the wrong direction, generating a misconception on which area is inside or outside the solid. These errors are introduced either in the design process or during export from the BIM authoring tool. In this paper, error detection and correction algorithms are introduced to address each individual error type. The algorithms are tested on the geometrical data of the IFC files of two office buildings, where errors of the types mentioned above were detected and automatically corrected.

Cyber-physical systems (CPS) require model checking to guarantee the functional correctness of software models, providing counterexamples in case of violations. Domain-specific model checking (DSMC) allows to apply model checking to specific application domains. DSMC hides the complexity of using a model checker by translating from a domain-specific modeling language (DSML) to the model checker's input language, and by translating counterexamples back to the domain-specific level. Implementing DSMC is challenging for CPS due to the large differences between DSMLs and the input language of a model checker. In this paper, we present a successful application of DSMC to MECHATRONICUML, a DSML for the software design of CPS, using the model checker UPPAAL. As a key benefit, our approach is able to translate counterexamples back to the domain-specific level even in case of large differences between DSML and the model checker's input language. We show the correctness of our approach using a case study from the area of car-2-car communication.

This paper presents the digital implementation of a boundary controller with unipolar switching characteristic for single phase voltage source full bridge inverters, which will be used as an interface between a low voltage DC microgrid and AC loads. This paper expands the second order switching surface control method for single phase inverters by unipolar switching with the use of a finite-state machine. Compared to bipolar switching, unipolar switching has the advantage of lower switching losses and filter size. Besides, the switching losses can be equally distributed among semiconductor switches compared to conventional three-level inverter switching scheme. The operating principles of proposed control scheme and mathematical derivation of the switching functions will be given. A 550 VA, 120 V, 60 Hz voltage source inverter (VSI) with a digital signal processor has been implemented to verify the theoretical predictions. Experimental results for steady state operation at different loading conditions show a tightly regulated output voltage, for large-signal disturbances the control is fast and precise.
In recent years, improving the performance of femtosecond lasers has become more and more challenging. A promising way to get around intrinsic physical limitations in laser designs it is the technique of spatially and...
