In the presented work the potentials of vibroacoustic metamaterials for noise and vibration reduction for the use in electric vehicles are shown. Vibroacoustic metamaterials are applied to a cover of power electronics of an electric powertrain. The work involves the numerical stop band prediction, the elaboration of resonator designs, their manufacturing, and the experimental validation of the vibroacoustic metamaterial applied to the target structure. Validation measurements of the cover configurations are carried out in terms of structural dynamics. Three cover configurations with integrated vibroacoustic metamaterials, differing in terms of damping are compared to a reference cover, a cover with an added bitumen damping layer and an add-on vibroacoustic metamaterial.

Connected, Cooperative, and Autonomous Mobility (CCAM) will take intelligent transportation to a new level of complexity. CCAM systems can be thought of as complex systems-of-systems (SoSs). They pose new challenges to security as consequences of vulnerabilities or attacks become much harder to assess. In this paper, we propose the use of a specific type of a trust model, called subjective trust network, to model and assess trustworthiness of data and nodes in an automotive SoS. Given the complexity of the topic, we illustrate the application of subjective trust networks on a specific example, namely Cooperative Intersection Management (CIM). To this end, we introduce the CIM use-case and show how it can be modelled as a subjective trust network. We then analyze how such trust models can be useful both for design time and run-time analysis, and how they would allow us a more precise quantitative assessment of trust in automotive SoSs. Finally, we also discuss the open research problems and practical challenges that need to be addressed before such trust models can be applied in practice.

To increase the volumetric energy density modern high-energy Lithium-Ion cells consist of Graphite/Silicon ($\mathbf{G r} / \mathbf{S i}$) composite negative electrodes. Due to the high volume expansion of up to 300% caused by (de)lithiation of Si, challenges arise by the usage of $\mathbf{G r} / \mathrm{Si}$-electrodes to prevent accelerated degradation. Therefore, accurate models to predict the cell expansion and pressure are of increasing interest. To investigate the mechanical behavior, half-cell Equivalent Circuit Models (ECMs) are coupled with a solid and liquid diffusion model in this article. The current density distribution among $\mathbf{S i}$ - and Gr -particles is determined by the assumption of an ideal parallel-connected of the active materials. An electrochemical dilatometer is used to measure the electrode expansion. Based on these measurements and literature values of volume changes of the crystal structure, changes of the pore volume are estimated. For the cell expansion and force development a visco-elastic model is implemented by using a spring in serial to a Kelvin-Voigt-Model. Simulations show high agreement with experimental data and literature values regarding cell voltage and expansion.

With increasing autonomous capabilities and intelligence of machines and interconnectivity of humans and machines, interaction and cooperation become even more crucial for socio-cyber-physical systems. How can we organize the exploding number of design options in a way that it is easy for humans to understand and control these systems? Patterns for the design of interaction and cooperation could be the key for describing problems and generalizable solution patterns, which can be instantiated again in individual solutions. Modeling, matching and instantiating could be the fundamental use cases for those patterns. Understanding, designing, engineering and using are the essential activities in an interplay of researchers, designers, engineers and users of human-machine systems. A realistic dream is to have global databases of human-machine patterns and their effects so that the wheel does not have to be re-invented several times and common knowledge about patterns can be shared in our community. © 2022 IEEE.

The integration of volatile renewable energy sources requires reliable generation forecasts. Traditional forecasting methods that rely on commercial providers impose costs and de-pendencies on renewable energy operators. This paper proposes a literature survey on federated learning (FL) in the context of renewable energy forecasting and an analysis of open challenges in research and practice and possible solution approaches for re-alizing such a framework. Our focus is on short-term forecasts for day-ahead markets, which are critical for trading and operational efficiency. The FL approach preserves data privacy and improves forecast accuracy by leveraging distributed data from multiple operators. We present an analysis of current FL applications in renewable energy forecasting, identify implementation challenges, and propose solutions to overcome these barriers. This study aims to empower market participants to produce independent, accurate forecasts, thereby improving economical outcomes and operational stability.

Since Bitcoin first appeared on the scene in 2009, cryptocurrencies have become a worldwide phenomenon as important decentralized financial assets. Their decentralized nature, however, leads to notable volatility against traditional fiat currencies, making the task of accurately forecasting the crypto-fiat exchange rate complex. This study examines the various independent factors that affect the volatility of the Bitcoin-Dollar exchange rate. To this end, we propose CoMForE, a multimodal AdaBoost-LSTM ensemble model, which not only utilizes historical trading data but also incorporates public sentiments from related tweets, public interest demonstrated by search volumes, and blockchain hash-rate data. Our developed model goes a step further by predicting fluctuations in the overall cryptocurrency value distribution, thus increasing its value for investment decision-making. We have subjected this method to extensive testing via comprehensive experiments, thereby validating the importance of multimodal combination over exclusive reliance on trading data. Further experiments show that our method significantly surpasses existing forecasting tools and methodologies, demonstrating a 19.29% improvement. This result underscores the influence of external independent factors on cryptocurrency volatility. © 2022, CC BY-NC-ND.

Advanced packages are necessary to cope with the requirements of 5G and radar technologies with 60 GHz and beyond. For proper RF design with rising package technology requirements demands for usage of predefined structures with predefined layout elements, manufactured and measured elements. This paper deals with an approach to have such elements available to build advanced types of packages in shorter time compared to classical approaches. The approach is a general approach but it is demonstrated with an advanced two-level package-on-package technology with a leading edge IC technology. It is also used explain the build-up of a construction kit of RF-blocks from the design phase of test structures up to measurement of such structures, qualification and model building. From the test structure more general structures can be derived and used in the design of future 5G applications. This enables better time-to-market, reduces cost and provides higher design validation in terms of first time right. © 2020 IMAPS-International Microelectronics and Packaging Society. We propose a novel quantum nonlinear interferometer design that incorporates a passive parity-time(PT)-symmetric coupler sandwiched between two nonlinear sections where signal-idler photon pairs are *** PT symmetry enables efficient coupling of the longer-wavelength idler photons and facilitates the sensing of losses in the second waveguide exposed to analyte under investigation,whose absorption can be inferred by measuring only the signal intensity at a shorter wavelength where efficient detectors are readily ***,we identify a new phenomenon of sharp signal intensity fringe shift at critical idler loss values,which is distinct from the previously studied PT symmetry *** discuss how such unconventional properties arising from quantum interference can provide a route to enhancing the sensing of analytes and facilitate broadband spectroscopy applications in integrated photonic platforms.

The accurate prediction of the battery temperature in an electric vehicle is crucial for an effective thermal management of the battery system. Here, a nonlinear autoregressive exogenous network is used to model the complex thermal behavior of a battery cell. It is trained with conventional driving data and uses input parameters that are easy to obtain. Its accuracy is proven for a wide range of temperatures, showing the simple, general and robust applicability of the approach.

The continuous monitoring of livestock behaviour is an important task in precision livestock farming. An early recognition of critical events in a herd can lead to an improved animal welfare and thus for example in a reduced need of antibiotics. Furthermore, it has been found that even feeding intake and efficiency can be affected by animal behaviour. Due to the size of modern livestock farming operations, the usage of automated systems becomes necessary. We present a scalable automated monitoring system composed of low-cost IP video surveillance cameras and affordable edge-computing hardware on-site, complemented by standardized web services that allow for long term video storage and analysis. For the automated analysis of eating- and resting time as well as activity levels in videos, we perform state-of-the-art object detection and tracking using a YOLOv3 DeepSORT Convolutional Neural Network. Data management and the integration of the analysis system into the farmers’ work-flows are achieved using a distributed service interoperability network that allows the exchange of data between different services related to livestock management. The interoperability network is completely federated and based on established web technologies. Interoperability is achieved through standardized APIs and data formats. This enables farmers for example to seamlessly integrate behaviour analysis results into feeding management systems, or to share the results with external consultancy services or other stakeholders in the production chain. Furthermore, the standardized data exchange removes the extra workload that is caused by entering the same data into different systems. © ECPLF 2022. All rights reserved.
