Energy system models (ESMs) inform the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy. Optimal system design is influenced by the shape and magnitude of electricity demand. Demands will change as decarbonisation efforts across sectors aim at electrification. However, many ESMs oversimplify the complexity of demand changes driven by individual adoption decisions. Agent-based models (ABMs) allow for incorporating behavioural theories capturing this complexity, but rely on assumptions about factors like energy prices and emissions affecting adoption behaviour. This work introduces a novel framework, CanAdopt, that integrates an ABM with an ESM, alleviating assumption requirements in both models. The capabilities of the novel framework are demonstrated for scenario analysis of policy impacts in the energy and residential heating sectors. The ABM models heating technology adoption and residential electricity demands for the ESM, which optimises capacity expansion and yields electricity prices and embedded emissions for the ABM. Both models cover 2020–2050 and are executed sequentially eight times. Applied to Ontario, Canada, the most progressive scenario achieves net-zero by 2035 and 2040 in the residential sector and power sector, respectively. The total transition costs are 327 billion CAD in the residential sector and 395 billion CAD in the power sector. Cumulative heating related emissions increase by 43% through a five-year delay in achieving net-zero, underscoring the urgency of the transition. The governmental carbon abatement costs in the residential sector range from 72 to 110 CAD/(t CO2), well below the federal carbon tax of 170 CAD/(t CO2). The coupling of both models showed, that increased residential heat pump adoption may reduce total transition cost by 8 to 10 billion CAD in the power system, but the increases in demand may be challenging to meet if additionally electric furnaces are widely adopted.

Almost all sectors of the manufacturing industry are affected by a shift in which the traditional product portfolio is being replaced by highly integrated product service systems. This shift–also referred to as "servitization in manufacturing"–is accelerated by innovation potentials that arise from the progress of digitally enabled technologies. A technology with a considerable potential for the digital refinement of the product service business is Augmented Reality (AR). It enables real-world environments to be enriched with additional virtual content. For example, repair instructions can be visualized as a 3D animation superimposed on a physical machine, enabling service technicians to carry out complex tasks more time and cost efficiently. However, the integration of AR into the product service portfolio requires adjustments to the business model: (1) Companies have to identify promising use cases for AR that create value for the customer, thereby defining the value proposition of the business model. (2) The identified use cases need to be translated into products and services, integrated into the existing product service portfolio. (3) Promising business models have to be designed, taking into account the technology-specific challenges posed by AR (e.g. ensuring user acceptance, finding revenue models to cover the investment costs for AR devices). Despite the large variety of potential AR applications, business models successfully exploiting AR are still the exception, indicating that the development of sustainable business models is a significant challenge. With this in mind, in this paper, we present an approach for designing business models for AR. The evolution of wireless network technology has led to an increasing number of applications for mobile use. In addition, the paradigm of service-oriented architectures allows a composition of applications based on distributed web services. By using registries it becomes possible to choose the appropriate services at runtime. It needs to be considered that services for mobile use may have different scopes. For instance, routing or weather services may be dedicated to a specific region so that they may be useless if a user's area of interest does not match the service's scope. It is hence necessary to identify and use those services with a scope that corresponds to the relevant context such as a user's location. Moreover, if the context changes, it is desirable to automatically switch between different equivalent service instances to provide a user with a continuous connection to a desired service. We denote this mechanism as service roaming. This paper presents the major concepts needed for service roaming as well as a roaming model based on n-dimensional context spaces.
