Debates around robots, both scientific and non-scientific, mostly put the human being in their focus. This is important and necessary to produce machines that humans can operate and interact with, and to do responsible research. A method of optimizing the control parameter of wearable exoskeletons for industrial applications using subjective feedbacks is introduced in this paper. The human sensory system is explained and a method of mapping these perceptions to the control parameter set of the exoskeleton is developed. Subsequently a method for online parameter adjustment based on the kinetic and kinematic quantities is established and the method is verified for a case study with the Stuttgart Exo-Jacket. © 2017 IEEE.

In this letter, we demonstrate for the first time the additional capability of high-speed data communication for single-junction photovoltaic (PV) cells. A record 3-dB bandwidth of 24.5 MHz is reported for a gallium arsenide (GaAs) PV cell. The PV cell is shown to achieve a power efficiency of at least 42% when irradiance of 0.46 W/cm 2 is received from 847-nm vertical-cavity surface-emitted laser. Optimized bit-and-power-loaded optical orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) is applied to use the communication bandwidth most efficiently. With this, a data rate of 0.5 Gb/s is achieved for a 2-m OFDM-based laser link. To the best of our knowledge, the reported data rates achieved with a GaAs PV cell as the detector are the highest for simultaneous optical wireless information and power transfer.

The EU-project SAFFI targets food for EU's 15 million and China's 45 million children under the age of three. It aims at developing an integrated approach to enhance the identification, assessment, detection and mitigation of health risks raised by microbial and chemical hazards along EU and China infant food chains. SAFFI will benchmark the main risks through an extensive hazard identification system based on multiple data sources and a risk ranking procedure. It will also develop procedures to enhance top-down and bottom-up hazard control by combining management options with a panel of technologies for the detection and mitigation of priority hazards. Furthermore, it will explore unexpected contaminants by predictive toxicology and improve risk-based food safety management of biohazards by omics and predictive microbiology. SAFFI will co-develop with and deliver to stakeholders a decision-support system (DSS) to enhance safety control all along the food chain. This DSS will integrate the databases, procedures and methods described above and will be a framework for a generic DSS dedicated to other food. This overall methodology will also be implemented in a complementary Chinese side of the project, and exemplified for each side, with four case studies that were selected to cover priority hazards, main ingredients, processes and control steps of the infant food chain. Resulting databases, tools and procedures will be shared, cross-validated, concatenated, benchmarked and finally harmonized for further use in the EU and China. This EU-China multi-actor consortium of 20 partners involves academia, food safety authorities, infant food companies, a paediatrics association and technological and data-science SMEs. © 2022

HANDELkompetent – Situation Aware Learning in Retail

Digitization is a megatrend which affects all industries. But how does this affect learning on the job scenarios. The research project HANDELkompetent aims at digitization of work process integrated informal learning in retail with a methodological approach and a supporting digital learning environment. The method consists of an accompanied learning approach, where a dedicated person schedules the development of competences of staff in dialog. Learning content consists of small web-based trainings, i.e. learning-nuggets, which can be consumed in a few minutes. The learning environment is enhanced with a tablet pc app, which presents learning content to a learner. The app is enabled to deliver appropriate content to the learner by recognizing the learning situation by making use of device sensors, the actual competences of a learner and the target competences as registered in the learning environment. That means in detail that a learning position, e.g. cash point, warehouse or sales floor is tagged with iBeacons. Those iBeacons broadcast their identification via Bluetooth Low Energy. The tablet PCof a learner can identify these iBeacons and thus, the app determines the physical location of the learner. Besides the position the app can utilize microphone, camera or a brightness sensor for gathering context information, to derive the learning situation and to deliver appropriate content. We make use of the Digital Business engineering Framework to structure our work. Digital Business engineering is a methodological framework to deliver sustainable solutions for Digital Transformation. Nonlinear solutions for χ(2) frequency combs in optical microresonators

Experimental and theoretical studies of nonlinear frequency combs in χ(3) optical microresonators attracted tremendous research interest during the last decade and resulted in prototypes of soliton-based steadily working devices. Realization of similar combs owing to χ(2) optical nonlinearity promises new breakthroughs and is a big scientific challenge. We analyze the main obstacles for realization of the χ(2) frequency combs in high-Q microresonators and propose two families of steady-state nonlinear solutions, including soliton and periodic solutions, for such combs. Despite generic periodicity of light fields inside microresonators, the nonlinear solutions can be topologically different and relevant to periodic and antiperiodic boundary conditions. The found particular solutions exist owing to a large difference in the group velocities between the first and second harmonics, typical of χ(2) microresonators, and to the presence of the pump. They have no zero-pump counterparts relevant to conservative solitons. Stability issue for the found comb solutions remains open and requires further numerical analysis. Die-level patterning of a parylene F coated chip is achieved by short laser pulse ablation. Thus, the insulating polymer is removed selectively and local openings are achieved. Occurring melt-depositions at the cut edges are removed by applying an O2-flash which also thins the parylene layer from approximately 2 μm to 800 nm. Prepared dies are processed further by Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD). A transparent conductive In2O3-layer with a thickness of 45 nm is deposited three-dimensionally onto the die so that Inter-Layer-Connections (ILC) with die metallisation are implemented through the opened parylene. Electrical connections through the patterned parylene, which demonstrate reasonable resistance values and non-ohmic behaviour, have been characterised by IV-measurements. © 2018 Verlag Wissenschaftliche Scripten. This paper provides a further understanding of soft breakdown (SBD) defects occurring in metal insulator metal (MIM) back end of line (BEOL) test structures with copper metallization and a low-k dielectric. Metal insulator semiconductor (MIS) test structures are utilised to take advantage of the infrared transparent backside of the silicon chip to directly access the low-k material. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images and scanning transmission electron microscope energy dispersive X-ray (STEM-EDX) analysis of localised SBD defects with a resistance of 250GΩ are shown. The temperature within the defective area during the SBD is estimated to be >802°C. A numerical solver program is used to simulate the thermal conditions. An energy density of at least 2E14 pW/μ m 3 is required to generate the presented defect morphology. Similarities between photon emission measurements (PEM) on MIM and MIS test structures allow transferring findings made on MIS structures to MIM structures. Spectral photon emission measurements (SPEM) are presented as a means to monitor the low-k degradation.

Vinylene-linked two-dimensional covalent organic frameworks (V-2D-COFs) have shown great promise in electronics and optoelectronics. However, only a few reactions for V-2D-COFs have been developed hitherto. Besides the kinetically low reversibility of C=C bond formation, another underlying issue facing the synthesis of V-2D-COFs is the attainment of high ( E )-alkene selectivity to ensure the appropriate symmetry of 2D frameworks. Here, we tailor the E / Z selectivity of the Wittig reaction by employing a proper catalyst (i.e., Cs 2 CO 3 ) to obtain more stable intermediates and elevating the temperature across the reaction barrier. Subsequently, the Wittig reaction is innovatively utilized for the synthesis of four crystalline V-2D-COFs by combining aldehydes and ylides. Importantly, the efficient conjugation and decent crystallinity of the resultant V-2D-COFs are demonstrated by their high charge carrier mobilities over 10 cm 2 V −1 s −1 , as revealed by non-contact terahertz (THz) spectroscopy.

This paper presents an efficient approach to extract SystemC AMS models from Finite Element (FE) descriptions developed in the design process of the MEMS structure. The resulting model must be capable for simulations on Electronic System Level (ESL). The main challenge is to generate a model, which shows within a specified range of operation the same behaviour as the Finite Element model but can be simulated much faster. Starting from the matrices of the Finite Element Model (FEM) Model Order Reduction (MOR) techniques are applied to generate a reduced state space description, which is adapted to the Degrees of Freedom (DoF) to be considered and the appropriate frequency range. This state space description can be integrated into SystemC AMS models and can be solved with the available state space solver. Furthermore the focus of this paper is the reachable accuracy of the simulated behaviour depending from the selected time resolution. © VDE VERLAG GMBH ∙ Berlin ∙ Offenbach
