Human-Robot-Collaboration (HRC) is seen by many manufacturing enterprises as an opportunity to increase the automation level in their manufacturing without having to acquiesce in flexibility. Accordingly, many system integrators are confronted by an increasing demand for collaborative workplaces. However, system integrators are having difficulties to deliver such safe and efficient workplaces as is evident by the very low number of HRC cells in industry. This is due to the complexity of the safety standards and guidelines governing HRC, as well as the often negative impact of necessary safety measures on the key performance indicators (KPIs) of a collaborative workplace. In this paper, an iterative design method utilizing model-driven risk assessment and decision support is presented, that automatically identifies potential hazards in a workplace design and estimates the impact of necessary safety measures, with regard to the KPIs investment cost, operational cost, cycle time and flexibility.

This work investigates the reverse conduction characteristics of 600 V-class GaN-HEMTs. The behavior of a conventional HEMT is analyzed and compared to the reverse conduction of an improved HEMT structure with integrated freewheeling diode. The characteristics of both structures are measured on fabricated test samples. Furthermore, the electrical behavior is analyzed with regards to the intrinsic layouts.

In many industrial manufacturing processes energy use is one of the most important cost factors. Especially in energy-intensive industries like steel production or glass processing minimizing energy use is a key measure to save resources and reduce manufacturing costs. The research project OptPlanEnergie concentrates on the production of tempered glass. In this project we apply simulation and optimization techniques to identify and reduce energetic losses that occur during the fabrication process. The aim of the project is to supply a toolchain for creating high-performance simulation models of crucial production steps and integrating these models in scheduling frameworks to facilitate the optimization of loading sequences and capacity allocation to reduce energy consumption. In OptPlanEnergie we prototypically study the production of tempered glass, but our approach allows a simple adaptation to a wide range of industries.
