This article presents a time of arrival and time difference of arrival fusion for Decawave ultra-wideband transceivers. The presented techniques combine the time-of-arrival and time-difference-of-arrival measurements without losing the advantages of each approach. The precision and accuracy of the distances measured by the Decawave devices depends on three effects: signal power, clock drift, and uncertainty in the hardware delay. This article shows how all three effects may be compensated with both measurement techniques. © 2019 CEUR Workshop Proceedings. All rights reserved.

Hyperspectral target detection experiments under nonideal conditions are scarce. An extensive multi-scale and multi-temporal field experiment was designed towards the goal of knowledge expansion under such circumstances. A range of camouflage materials and specific targets of interest were placed in a realistic natural environment with vegetation cover and varying illumination. In several experiments, aspects like changes in the sun position, variable moisture, and relocations of targets were analysed. Using an aircraft-based and a drone-based imaging spectrometer, the target scenarios were mapped at different daytimes. The data were radiometrically, atmospherically and geometrically processed to allow subsequent data analysis. First insights deliver promising results.

Due to the increasing flexibility of processes in modern plants the need for the respective networks’ flexibility rises. Such dynamic networks are already performing well in, for example, data centres where they are based on the Software-defined Networking (SDN) paradigm. Because SDN has established itself in flexible, high performance environments, it is currently introduced into industrial networks as well. With the usage of SDN, a centralized view and controlling is added to these networks, which enables performing automated responses to network events. Such network events can be classified as incidents to which SDN can provide timely and, due to the holistic view on the network, appropriate, automated incident response, like immediate containment, monitoring or switching to redundancies. However, industrial networks generally have a high occurrence of availability-, safety- and time-critical communication which limit the scope for action of such an automated approach. Nevertheless, SDN-based incident response (SDN-IR) does not yet take into consideration these limitations, which prevent its application for industrial networks. This article identifies possible response actions to industrial network incidents. Furthermore, it presents a concept for SDN-IR where a predefined rule set restricts the response actions based on asset and link classification. This way, SDN-IR is able to satisfy the before mentioned requirements of industrial networks. In addition, the article describes a prototype of this concept and its evaluation, elucidates the perspective of a device security status in the SDN-IR context and discusses security issues of the concept. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The extrinsic calibration of a Mobile Laser Scanning system aims to determine the relative orientation between a laser scanner and a sensor that estimates the exterior orientation of the sensor system. The relative orientation is one component that limits the accuracy of a 3D point cloud which is captured with a Mobile Laser Scanning system. The most efficient way to determine the relative orientation of a Mobile Laser Scanning system is using a self-calibration approach as this avoids the need to perform an additional calibration beforehand. Instead, the system can be calibrated automatically during data acquisition. The entropy-based self-calibration fits into this category and is utilized in this contribution. In this contribution, we analyze the impact of four different trajectories on the result of the entropy-based self-calibration, namely (i) uni-directional, (ii) ortho-directional, (iii) bi-directional, and (iv) multi-directional trajectory. Theoretical considerations are supported by experiments performed with the publicly available MLS 1 - TUM City Campus data set. The investigations show that strong variations of the yaw angle in a confined space or bidirectional trajectories as well as the variation of the height of the laser scanner are beneficial for calibration. © Authors 2019. Detecting high intrinsic motivation and Flow states is key for successful adaptation processes that may be used to improve learning outcome in Simulations and Serious Games. Until now, the method of choice to measure Flow, is the usage of questionnaires. Because of the shortcomings of this method, the ultimate goal is, to establish an alternative measuring method through correlations of physiological sensor data. Beforehand, the theoretical model of Flow is enhanced with the more fine-grained model of immersion plus the design and implementation of an experiment to validate said model is introduced. Large apertures are used in FSOC systems to increase signal and reduce scintillation. Based on simulations of a realistic FSOC system using a Gaussian beam we found significant changes in the empirical PDF with increasing aperture size. We compare the fit of PDFs to data and the effect of PDF choice on and fade probability of a direct detection FSOC system. ©2019 The Authors.

Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) contain ex-pert knowledge on the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. They can be regarded as state of the art and standardized procedures that have been established by consensus of the clinical expert community. In this work, we show how CPGs can be formalized by activities of the Unified Modeling Language (UML), and can subsequently be translated into PROforma models. UML activities allow for a comprehensible representation of the underlying process, whereas PROforma models can be directly executed in a dialog system and support the practitioner during the diagnosis or treatment process. In this work, we expand our approach from [1] to include more complex diseases like Primary Myelofribrosis (PMF) and Immune Thrombocytopenia (ITP) and show the applicability for exemplary patients.

Quantum optical metrology aims to identify ultimate sensitivity bounds for the estimation of parameters encoded into quantum states of the electromagnetic field. In many practical applications, including imaging, microscopy, and remote sensing, the parameter of interest is not only encoded in the quantum state of the field, but also in its spatio-temporal distribution, i.e. in its mode structure. In this mode-encoded parameter estimation setting, we derive an analytical expression for the quantum Fisher information valid for arbitrary multimode Gaussian fields. To illustrate the power of our approach, we apply our results to the estimation of the transverse displacement of a beam and to the temporal separation between two pulses. For these examples, we show how the estimation sensitivity can be enhanced by adding squeezing into specific modes. © 2022, CC BY-SA.

The key purpose of assistance robots is to help people coping with work-related or everyday tasks. To ensure an intuitive and effective support by an assistance robot, its expectation conform behavior is essential. In particular, when using assistance robots in geriatrics to assist elderly patients, special attention to the human-robot interaction should be paid. In order to help elderly patients maintain their independence and abilities as much as possible, the robot should only intervene when its support is needed. Therefore, the continuous estimation of the patient's need for interaction is of particular importance. For enabling suitable models to estimate this need, we elaborate the use of Bayesian Networks. The analysis of our results seems promising, yielding a robust and practical approach. © 2019 by Walter de Gruyter Berlin/Boston.
