Artificial intelligence (AI) applications are particularly promising in the field of medical imaging. Especially in radiology, research presents various AI uses cases, highlighting AI applications' potential to improve the quality and efficiency of healthcare. Further, despite numerous research projects of AI applications, an investigation from the real-world, practice-based point of view regarding AI applications is lacking. Consequently, little is known about medical imaging specialists’ perspective on AI applications. Following the Grounded Theory Methodology, we conducted 15 semi-structured interviews with medical imaging specialists. Future cyber-physical systems will behave smart, i.e., they will provide self-*properties and collaborate with each other. software realizes this smart behavior. In modern cars, a hardware platform consists of up to 100 networked electronic control units (ECUs) that execute the software. As the amount of safety-critical software increases, the task of describing a suitable hardware platform for deploying safety-critical software components to ECUs becomes more complicated. Existing approaches for the definition of a hardware platform do not address the different stakeholder's concerns and do not provide a systematic method. This leads to an error-prone development. In this paper, we identify viewpoints for the stakeholder's concerns and provide a method for the multi-view modeling of hardware platforms. In addition, we support hierarchical and variable horizontal composition of hardware platforms by transferring concepts from component-based software engineering. To test our method, we use an Arduino-based cooperative adaptive cruise control system. © 2014 ACM.

In 1999 three formal-methods researchers, including the speaker, founded a company to commercialize formal modeling and verification technology for envisioned telecommunications customers. Eight years later, the company sells testing tools to embedded control software developers in the automotive, aerospace and related industries. This talk will describe the journey taken by the company during its evolution, why this journey was both less and more far than it seems, and how the speaker’s views on the practical utility of mathematically oriented software research changed along the way. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2007.

Today's world is changing at unprecedent speed and scale becoming more complex to understand. Taxonomies represent an important tool for understanding and analyzing complex domains based on the classification of objects. In the Information systems (IS) domain, Nickerson et al. (2013) were the first to propose a taxonomy development method, addressing the observation that many taxonomies have been developed in an 'ad-hoc' approach. More than five years after Nickerson et al.'s (2013) publication, we examined to what extent recently published taxonomy articles account for existing methodological guidance. Therefore, we identified and reviewed 33 taxonomy articles published between 2013 and 2018 in leading Information systems journals. Our results were sobering: We found few taxonomy articles that followed any specific development method. Although most articles correctly understood taxonomies as conceptually or empirically derived groupings of dimensions and characteristics, our study revealed that the development process often remained opaque and that taxonomies were hardly evaluated. We discuss these findings and potential root causes related to method design, method adoption, and the general positioning of taxonomy research in the IS domain. Our study proposes stimulating questions for future research and contributes to the IS community's progress towards methodologically well-founded taxonomies. © 27th European Conference on Information systems - Information systems for a Sharing Society, ECIS 2019. Context: "Code smell" is commonly presented as indicative of problems in design of object-oriented systems. However, some empirical studies have presented findings refuting this idea. One of the reasons of the misunderstanding is the low number of studies focused on the role of human on code smell detection. Objective: Our aim is to build empirical support to exploration of the human role on code smell detection. Specifically, we investigated strategies adopted by developers on god class detection. God class is one of the most known code smell. Method: We performed a controlled experiment and replicated it. We explored the strategies from the participant's actions logged during the detection of god classes. Result: One of our findings was that the observation of coupling is more relevant than the observation of attributes like LOC or complexity and the hierarchical relation among these. We also noted that reading source code is important, even with visual resources enhancing the general comprehension of the software. Conclusion: This study contributes to expand the comprehension of the human role on code smell detection through the use of automatic logging. We suggest that this approach brings a complementary perspective of analysis in discussions about the topic. Copyright © 2014 by Knowledge systems Institute Graduate School.

software evolution produces large amounts of data which software engineers need to understand for their daily activities. The use of software visualization constitutes a promising approach to help them comprehend multiple aspects of the evolving software. However, portraying all the data is not an easy task as there are many dimensions to the data (e.g. time, files, properties) to be considered. This paper presents a new software visualization metaphor inspired by concentric waves, which gives information about the software evolution in different levels of detail. This new metaphor is able to portray large amount of data and may also be used to consider different dimensions of the data. It uses the concepts of the formation of concentric waves to map software evolution data generated during the waves formation life cycle. The metaphor is useful for exploring and identifying certain patterns in the software evolution. To evaluate its applicability, we conducted an exploratory study to show how the visualization can quickly answer different questions asked by software engineers when evolving their software. Employee health is increasingly important, as is the use of eHealth technologies in the private and the organizational context. This paper examines which existing eHealth technologies that support monitoring and tracking of health are applied in occupational health management (OHM) and investigates the advantages and disadvantages of their application. To pursue this intention, we analyze the current state of research with a structured literature review and provide a comprehensive overview of relevant works. The results point out advantages and disadvantages that provide the groundwork to discuss success factors for tracking and monitoring eHealth technologies in OHM. The derived success factors aim at operational, technological, operational/technological aspects of eHealth tracking and monitoring usage. Thereby, favorable outcomes such as an increase in employee health can be achieved, and participation in OHM measures can be increased. However, it can also lead to adverse outcomes such as a reduced work-life balance. © 2022 17th International Conference on Wirtschaftsinformatik, WI 2022. All rights reserved.

Bank customers’ decision-making process in choosing between ethical and conventional banking: a survey-based examination

Although the banking industry is increasingly focused on the issue of sustainability, the market share held by ethical banks remains small. This study applies models of ethical decision-making to investigate the reasons why customers choose conventional rather than ethical banks, and vice versa. Firstly, a model of bank customers’ ethical decision-making process in choosing between ethical and conventional banks is developed, based on multiple established models from the extant literature. Secondly, this theoretical model is evaluated using data from an online-survey and ‘partial least squares structural equation modelling’. This reveals that the primary factors discouraging potential customers from selecting an ethical rather than conventional bank are a lack of information, limited pressure of the social context, weak moral intensity, and a perception that ethical banks are economically disadvantageous. However, the good reputation of ethical banks, a high concern for the topic, and low levels of skepticism, all indicate a positive general opinion of ethical banks. These results suggest that more factual information and emotional charging of the topic of ethical banking would strengthen demand. In terms of theory, our analysis shows how general models of ethical decision-making can be tailored for use in specific contexts and suggests that the integration of multiple established ethical decision-making models is sensible. Furthermore, we suggest that reputation and economic benefit—which we include here as domain-specific extensions of established ethical decision-making models—are concepts to consider for a general context-independent extension of ethical decision-making models. © 2019, Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.

software development and maintenance activities can be negatively impacted by the presence of technical debt. One of its consequences is the software quality decrease. In order to produce better software, the evolution of technical debt needs to be monitored. However, this is not a trivial task since it usually requires the analysis of large amount of data and different types of debt. The areas of metrics and software visualization can be used to facilitate the monitoring of technical debt. This paper presents an open source tool called VisMinerTD that uses software metrics and visualization to support developers in software comprehension activities including the identification and monitoring of technical debt. VisMinerTD brings a new perspective to the hard work of identifying and monitoring technical debt evolution on software projects. Moreover, the user can easily plug new metrics and new visual metaphors to address specific technical debt identification and monitoring activities.
