The system is designed for the configuration of industrial mixing-machines is assist members of the sales department. The process of configuration is split in two parts. In the process- engineering part, the mixing-machine is characterized by the kind of agitator and the number of revolutions in respect to the mixing task. In the second part, all components of the mixing- machine are determined with regard to the laws of mechanics. Different kinds of knowledge had to be implemented. Structural knowledge is represented by objects whereas algorithmic knowledge is coded in functions. Directed constraints are used to express causal dependencies. Technical parameters and available parts are stored in databases. These databases also serve as an interface to the existing CIM-system. The database-format chosen allows an easy maintenance of the data by various tools. The process of configuration is characterized by loops of feedback. Often parameters are needed before they can be computed, therefore they have to be pre-estimated. Later on they are checked and probably re-computed. Main decisions in the process of configuration are done by the user. The system supports the user by suggesting the cheapest components. The development of the system and the need for explanation of the expert knowledge has had an interesting side-effect: the revision of various methods and standards of the manufacturer. It turned out, that there are two different kinds of validation: the validation of process-engineerical and mechanical knowledge done by the experts and the usefulness for daily work examined by members of the sales department.

The agent-based Production monitoring and control system (PMC) for real-time production monitoring supports manufacturing operations such as production order control, process monitoring and control, sequence planning, and vehicle identification. PMC is used in classical automation field to gather signals produced by production facilities and programmable logic controllers (PLC). PLCs support manufacturing decisions through manufacturing execution systems (MES) that provide link between process monitoring tolls and the systems that carry product information. The framework of MES is designed to optimize interaction of MES modules with the vendors that provide MES services. Software agents are used as a means of integration for the development of PMCs or MES components. A visualization agent is used for interfering with a SCADA systems such as WinCC and FactoryLink. The Web-server agent interfaces the PLC to statistical analysis system, which is in-house product ProVisPaula or a software.

Control Algorithms for Stiffening an Elastic Industrial Robot

An industrial robot (IR) position-control algorithm will be presented that was developed at the fraunhofer institute for the highly accurate cutting of geometrically complex metal surfaces. In the past the extreme tolerance requirements for hard alloy workpieces had to be met manually or by means of expensive specialized machine tools. It is shown that this advanced manufacturing task can be solved by a conventional IR if its elastic behavior can be sufficiently stiffened by the introduction of a more sophisticated control concept. Experiences with the design and the practical implementation will be discussed. Copyright © 1985 by The institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc.

Objects of change within a manufacturing enterprise can be products, technological of logistical processes, parts of the manufacturing facilities or a company's organization according to Wiendahl (2007). For this paper we assume, that Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) are also change objects - they have to be adapted to changes on the shop floor, regarding changed products and changed facilities. Today the adaption of MES is managed and done manually - therefore the author proposes an automated way of changing the production related IT-system. For this purpose two main ideas are described: reading and interpreting a self-description of production equipment and enrichment of these descriptions with data from the digital factory. Therefore the gap between planning and operating IT-systems has to be bridged. The goal of the digital factory is to allow future manufacturing systems to be planned, tested and optimized before they are built. The huge amounts of data generated in these processes could be used later for operating the production systems. The goal must be to create a direct connection between the Digital Factory and MES.

The paper describes an implemented system designed to assist the sales department staff in finding a configuration of industrial mixing-machines. The process of configuration is split into two steps: First process engineering knowledge is used to characterize the mixing-machine by the kind of agitator and the number of revolutions taking into account the mixing task;in a second step all components of the mixing-machine are determined with regard to the laws of mechanics. The configuration process is driven by a constraint propagation with integrated dependence control which can handle feedback loops. Since often parameters are needed before they can be computed, the configuration process has to contain feedback loops. These parameters have to be preestimated. Later on they will be checked and probably recomputed. All main decisions in the process of configuration are taken by the user. The system supports the user by exploring alternatives and suggesting standardized and therefore cheap components. Right now the system is tested in the distribution department of the manufacturer and evaluated with respect to its usefulness for the daily work. © 1992, Springer Verlag. All rights reserved.

This contribution presents the usage of an abstract data exchange format for an automatic configuration of a production monitoring and control system. The automatic configuration procedure re-uses already existing engineering information stored in a standardized and system-independent data format like CAEX. Standard data formats enable - beside the possibility of reaching a transparent engineering value creation chain - the data access of computational algorithms which automatically analyze those data and automatically create engineering results out of them. Standard data formats are a key for the idea of "automation of automation". The concept is exemplarily implemented and explained by means of the configuration of *** (R) and *** (R) using CAEX.

We present an outlier detection and correction algorithm for the direction of arrival (DOA) estimation of GNSS satellites. Neither the position of the satellites nor the calibration of the antenna orientation (attitude) are required. The outlier detection and correction modules exploit the geometric properties of the satellite constellation for the detection and correction of erroneous DOA estimates. The performance of the proposed algorithm was tested using simulated data and measurement data from our 7-element GNSS antenna array.

The inspection of sewer or fresh water pipes is usually carried out by a remotely controlled inspection vehicle equipped with a high resolution camera and a lightning system. Beside the subjective classification of pipe defects trough the operator standard CCTV technology is not suitable for detecting geometrical deformations resulting from e.g. structural mechanical weakness of the pipe, corrosion of the cast-iron material or sedimentations. The fraunhofer institute for information and data processing in Karlsruhe, Germany developed a new Rotating Optical Geometry Sensor (ROGS) for fresh water pipe inspection which is capable of measuring the inner pipe geometry very precisely over the whole pipe length. The developed sensor concept has been applied successfully to fresh water and sewer pipes - the results will be presented in detail. © 2008 IEEE.

In this paper we review and evaluate recent decision tree approaches to multi-class SVM for benchmark and selfcollected image data sets. In addition, we compare the classification capabilities of hierarchical agglomerative and hierarchical divisive clustering approaches which recursively partition the set of classes with the standard pair wise classifier. We compare agglomerative clustering approaches based on the pair wise Euclidean distance of class means, pair wise misclassification rates for a binary SVM and a Mahalanobis-assignment as well as divisive clustering using k-Means to partition a set of classes based on a partition of the data or one-class-SVM class representatives. Our results show that decision tree approaches achieve classification performance similar to the default multi-class SVM.
