Every surface exposed in the oral cavity is covered by a layer of salivary proteins (pellicle). The initial formation of the pellicle, which is a cellular, proteinaceous film on the surface, is followed by the adsorption of bacterial cells. Well-developed biofilms on dental implant surfaces become the main source of pathogenic microbes causing Peri-Implantitis, a condition that has been described as one of the main causes of dental implant failure. The surface wettability affects the formation of pellicle and biofilms. Laser-Metal-Deposition (LMD) and Plasma-Transferred-Arc (PTA) are well known technologies which can be used for cladding purposes. The prime objective in combining LMD and PTA as a Hybrid Metal Deposition-technology (HMD) is to achieve high deposition rates at low thermal impact. Possible applications are coatings for wear protection or repair welding for components made of steel. The two energy sources (laser and plasma arc) build a joint process zone and are configurated to constitute a stable process at laser powers between 0.4-1 kW (defocused) and plasma currents between 75-200 A. Stainless steel 316L serves as filler material. For this HMD process, a plasma Cu-nozzle is designed and produced by powder bed based Selective Laser Melting. The potential of the HMD technology is investigated and discussed considering existing processes. This paper demonstrates how the interaction of the two energy sources effects the following application-relevant properties: deposition rate, powder efficiency and energy input.

The paper deals with the integration of a light emitting diode (LED) into an additive manufactured metal component. Selective laser melting (SLM) and laser metal deposition (LMD) are used. The material used is the chrome-nickel steel 316L. The basic component is manufactured by means of SLM and consists of a solid body and an area with grid structure. The solid body includes a duct in the shape of a groove with a recess for the positioning of the power cable. The LED is embedded in the grid structure via an inlet from the solid body. In further processing, the groove is filled with LMD. Two strategies with different parameter combinations were investigated. It shows that a high energy input near the power cable leads to its destruction. By using multiple parameter combinations during the manufacturing process, this destruction can be prevented. There was a comparison of both strategies with regard to the necessary number of tracks and duration of welding time.

Selective Laser Melting is an additive manufacturing process, in which the research has been increasing over the past few years to meet customer-specific requirements. Therefore, new manufacturing parameters have been monitored raising the number of sensors in the machines. Consequently, it leads to a bigger amount of data and difficulties to perform manual data analysis. In order to improve the analysis, this paper illustrates a possibility of pattern recognition using a different historical process and sensors data from a SLM machine. The results are evaluated using an intelligent tool for algorithms configuration and data analysis developed at fraunhoferipk.

We present a hybrid programming method for industrial robots combining advantages of manual haptic guidance of the end-effector and programming approaches using non-haptic pointing gestures for the spatial definition of poses and trajectories. Whereas the bare-hand spatial interaction can be implemented and performed cost- and time-efficiently but lacks accuracy, haptic-interaction is more time-consuming but it is used in a reduced manner in order to enable a highly-accurate refinement of target working poses. Additionally, the user is supported by a mobile Augmented Reality simulation providing spatial validation of the robot program, program management and transmission towards the robot controller. The implementation is realized by a compliance control based on a sensor mounted between flange and end-effector combined with our former introduced approach for spatial programming. We conducted a user study comparing Teach-In and Offline programming. The analysis shows a significant reduction of programming duration as well as a reduction of programming errors compared with Teach-In. Most participants favor the hybrid programming system. No significant differences for the programming duration could be determined between experts and non-experts. In comparison between haptic and non-haptic interaction, non-experts favor non-haptic interaction due to the higher intuitiveness of pointing gestures compared to direct physical interaction.
