Automated driving systems can be helpful in a wide range of societal challenges, e.g., mobility-on-demand and transportation logistics for last-mile delivery, by aiding the vehicle driver or taking over the responsibility for the dynamic driving task partially or completely. Ensuring the safety of automated driving systems is no trivial task, even more so for those systems of SAE Level 3 or above. To achieve this, mechanisms are needed that can continuously monitor the system’s operating conditions, also denoted as the system’s operational design domain. This paper presents a safety concept for automated driving systems which uses a combination of onboard runtime monitoring via connected dependability cage and off-board runtime monitoring via a remote command control center, to continuously monitor the system’s ODD. On one side, the connected dependability cage fulfills a double functionality: (1) to monitor continuously the operational design domain of the automated driving system, and (2) to transfer the responsibility in a smooth and safe manner between the automated driving system and the off-board remote safety driver, who is present in the remote command control center. On the other side, the remote command control center enables the remote safety driver the monitoring and takeover of the vehicle’s control. Educational operating systems are crucial for facilitating learning in the digital age, as they exist at the intersection of technology and education. While their technical role is well understood, improving their educational value requires enhancing traditional approaches. This paper explores ways to enrich educational operating systems not just through technological advancement, but also by integrating pedagogical principles. In an ever-changing world, the need for an adaptive and responsive educational operating system to meet diverse student needs is crucial. Through case studies, we analyze how design, interactivity, and accessibility can transform these systems into effective and appealing learning environments. We propose a series of recommendations for the future development of educational operating systems, focusing on enhancing the learning experience and promoting student autonomy, thereby offering a fresh perspective on how technology and education can blend harmoniously and efficiently.

Along the process of engineering a safety-critical system, software engineers produce various artifacts, ranging from requirements and change requests to source code and test cases. In order to aid the development of the system and to adhere to the complex safety regulations and standards in place, engineers are often required to maintain bidirectional and consistent traceability between the produced artifacts. However, such artifacts are rarely maintained in one single tool. Because of that, the cross-tool bidirectional traces have to frequently be manually maintained, which can easily become a very time-consuming or infeasible task. Through interviews and observations at our industry partners in regulated domains, we observed that a number of different strategies are used to deal with this challenge. The use of naming conventions, querying, or URL links is observed in the industry. However, they have their shortcomings and hinder engineers from realizing the full potential that traceability can offer. Knowing the challenges in the industry, we explored existing literature. A range of approaches in the literature aims at dealing with traceability, but often they are context-specific and not easily transferable into practice. Given this gap between the state-of-the-art and industry needs, we performed interviews with our industry partners and analyzed tertiary studies from the literature to obtain a better understanding of what traceability properties are needed to unleash the potential of traces. We identified properties that represent the shared challenges between the related work and the industry requirements: discoverability, type checks, flexibility, navigability, and extensibility. While each property is addressed by a subset of the available solutions, we propose a novel traceability approach to support all of them in a single tool.

In the field of industry 4.0 and smart factories of the future, dynamic teams of robots will play an important role in the manufacturing of custom-tailored products with small lot sizes. Especially the planning for such multi-functional robot cells forms a key challenge, finding appropriate tasks for cooperating robots to perform efficient production. In this paper, we present two approaches for automated planning of assembly programs for multiple robots that separate between domain and automation level. While one uses a decomposition approach with plan-space planning and explicit decomposition rules, the other considers heuristic searching in state space. Both approaches are evaluated with different planning problems in the blocks world domain (i.e., LEGO® DUPLO®). The evaluation shows that both approaches outperform the results achieved with classical planning based on state-space search such as A∗. Furthermore, a concept for post-processing programs to optimize execution time by dependency-based interleaving of robot tasks is introduced that fully integrates into both planning approaches. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Evaluating the usage of fault localization in automated program repair:an empirical study

Fault localization techniques are originally proposed to assist in manual debugging by generally producing a rank list of suspicious *** the increasing popularity of automated program repair,the fault localization techniques have been introduced to effectively reduce the search space of automated program *** developers who mainly focus on the rank information,current automated program repair has two strategies to use the fault localization information:suspiciousness-first algorithm(SFA)based on the suspiciousness accuracy and rank-first algorithm(RFA)relying on the rank ***,despite the fact that the two different usages are widely adopted by current automated program repair and may result in different repair results,little is known about the impacts of the two strategies on automated program *** this paper we empirically compare the performance of SFA and RFA in the context of automated program ***,we implement the two strategies and six well-studied fault localization techniques into four state-of-the-art automated program repair tools,and then use these tools to perform repair experiments on 60 real-world bugs from *** study presents a number of interesting findings:RFA outperforms SFA in 70.02%of cases when measured by the number of candidate patches generated before a valid patch is found(NCP),while SFA performs better in parallel repair and patch diversity;the performance of SFA can be improved by increasing the suspiciousness accuracy of fault localization techniques;finally,we use SimFix that deploys SFA to successfully repair four extra Defects4J bugs which cannot be repaired by SimFix originally using *** observations provide a new perspective for future research on the usage and improvement of fault localization in automated program repair.

Electroencephalogram(EEG)is a medical imaging technology that can measure the electrical activity of the scalp produced by the brain,measured and recorded chronologically the surface of the scalp from the *** recorded signals from the brain are rich with useful *** inference of this useful information is a challenging *** paper aims to process the EEG signals for the recognition of human emotions specifically happiness,anger,fear,sadness,and surprise in response to audiovisual *** EEG signals are recorded by placing neurosky mindwave headset on the subject’s scalp,in response to audiovisual stimuli for the mentioned *** a bandpass filter with a bandwidth of 1-100 Hz,recorded raw EEG signals are *** preprocessed signals then further analyzed and twelve selected features in different domains are *** Random forest(RF)and multilayer perceptron(MLP)algorithms are then used for the classification of the emotions through extracted *** proposed audiovisual stimuli based EEG emotion classification system shows an average classification accuracy of 80%and 88%usingMLP and RF classifiers respectively on hybrid features for experimental signals of different *** proposed model outperforms in terms of cost and accuracy.

The digitalisation of industry and especially the IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) requires ever more powerful and smaller devices, such as sensors and actuators. These are more and more battery-powered and communicate in a wireless way. The MID technology enables easy integration into existing systems and machines due to the free shaping. This is particularly important for retrofit applications, where the installation spaces are fixed and can not be *** integration of antennas and microstrip lines on the surfaces of the MID bodies enables a high degree of miniaturisation of these components, as costly assembly and adjustment of the antennas is not necessary. However, it is essential that the dimensions of the antennas and microstrip lines are precisely matched to the matter parameters in order to function correctly. Otherwise, the resonance frequency of the antenna is detuned or the line impedances do not match. This would significantly impair the transmission and receiving characteristics of the IIOT device and thus significantly restrict its operability by reduction of the antenna radiation efficiency. For the designer of the circuit, the challenge is that often the dielectric material parameters of the used substrate material are not available or not specified in the required frequency range. Especially by adding additives and aggregates, the electrical material parameters permittivity, permeability and loss angle tan(delta). The determining of the electrical material parameters is a complex measuring procedure and requires special measuring equipment. In addition to a vector network analyser, special material fixtures and a measurement software tool are required. Furthermore, the material samples must be precisely fitted to the test fixture used. Then the material samples must be prepared, polished flat, in order to avoid measurement errors due to air pockets. This makes electrical material characterisation very complicated and cost-intensive. The

This paper delves into the realm of quantum computing and its potential to revolutionize data encryption methodologies. Leveraging IBM's Qiskit tool, we investigate encryption approaches aimed at bolstering data security. Commencing with a foundational elucidation of quantum computing and its pivotal role in encryption, we subsequently conduct a comparative analysis between classical binary encryption and quantum encryption methodologies. This analysis includes a practical demonstration of quantum encryption implementation utilizing Qiskit, underscoring the robustness and heightened security offered by quantum-based encryption techniques. Throughout this exploration, we address pertinent challenges encountered in the field, such as the limitations inherent in existing quantum hardware, while also outlining prospective directions for advancement. This article aims to incorporate search engine optimization validation into the development process of JavaScript-based web applications, thus connecting two sides of optimizations, namely the selection of appropriate practices and their correct implementation. We summarize strategies for achieving search engine optimization (SEO) compliance in single-page applications (SPAs) and propose two distinct testing solutions aimed at addressing SEO concerns in modern web apps. Both approaches are incorporated into CI/CD pipelines, making it possible to enforce existing SEO strategies. The issue of visibility in search engines is especially characteristic for JavaScript-based frameworks. This is because of the way they load and render their content, are mostly unable to achieve satisfactory SEO scores and rankings. Due to the ever-increasing popularity of these frameworks, it is essential to identify and compare available optimization techniques to address this subject adequately. Here, we take a closer look at the SEO-friendly features of *** and *** frameworks and evaluate their capabilities using two mock e-commerce websites as examples. To fulfill our second objective, an approach to continuous SEO testing is presented. We discuss the results of similar CI/CD pipeline setups using distinct technologies and tools, in particular Jenkins and GitHub actions. The results show that by integrating specific tests focused on SEO into CI/CD pipelines, developers can identify crucial shortcomings of their product and eliminate them before they cause harm in the production environment. © 2024 Copyright for this paper by its authors.

The basis for developing future products in the automotive industry is finding creative and innovative solutions. Ideas can be found by means of creativity methods that support product developers throughout the creative process. Product developers are provided with a variety of different and new methods. This leads to a method jungle in which it is difficult for product developers to find the most suitable path. The successful use of methods in product development goes hand in hand with the acceptance and implementation of the methods. Despite the added value, only a low use is observed in the development process. The field of Creativity Support Tools also offers a wide variety of different tools that support the creativity process. Although a chasm exists between the many CSTs that are developed and what creative practitioners actually use. Therefore, previous studies iteratively developed a user-centered tool called IDEA that tries to provide a tool that responds to users' needs. The question arises how the developed tool IDEA performs in real life setting regarding its UX and usability as well as the creativity method acceptance and level of mental workload. © The Author(s), 2023.
