The design and operation of computer systems has traditionally been driven by technical aspects and considerations. However, the usage characteristics of information and communication systems are both implicitly and explicitly determined by social interaction and the social graph of users. The SASOST workshop addresses all aspects of self-adaptive and self-organising mechanisms in socio-technical systems, covering different perspectives of this exciting research area ranging from normative and trust management systems to socio-inspired design strategies for distributed algorithms, collaboration platforms and communication protocols.

Ongoing problems in healthcare supply make it imperative to establish telemedicine as a feasible concept to ensure the quality of medical treatments and reduce costs. With TiEE, the Telemedical ILOG Event Engine, fraunhofer isst fosters the research to process streams of vital signs in telemedical scenarios using Complex Event Processing (CEP) in an Information Logistics (ILOG) manner. ILOG means to reduce the amount of information by preprocessing existing data and to route high-grade decision at the right time to the right person. As basic building blocks we developed the concepts of telemedical events (TE), Telemedical ILOG Listener (TIL) and TIL-Profiles on top of the event processing engine Esper [20-23]. TiEE analyzes the incoming patient specific streams of telemedical events and tries to detect relevant trend patterns. In a second step these got aggregated to higher level decisions.

Resolving vulnerability identification errors using security requirements on business process models

Purpose - In any information security risk assessment, vulnerabilities are usually identified by information-gathering techniques. However, vulnerability identification errors - wrongly identified or unidentified vulnerabilities - can occur as uncertain data are used. Furthermore, businesses' security needs are not considered sufficiently. Hence, security functions may not protect business assets sufficiently and cost-effectively. This paper aims to resolve vulnerability errors by analysing the security requirements of information assets in business process models. Design/methodology/approach - Business process models have been selected for use, because there is a close relationship between business process objectives and risks. Security functions are evaluated in terms of the information flow of business processes regarding their security requirements. The claim that vulnerability errors can be resolved was validated by comparing the results of a current risk assessment approach with the proposed approach. The comparison is conducted both at three entities of an insurance company, as well as through a controlled experiment within a survey among security professionals. Findings - Vulnerability identification errors can be resolved by explicitly evaluating security requirements in the course of business;this is not considered in current assessment methods. Originality/value - It is shown that vulnerability identification errors occur in practice. With the explicit evaluation of security requirements, identification errors can be resolved. software architecture has become an established discipline in industry. Nevertheless, the available documentation of architecture is often not perceived as adequate by developers. As a foundation for the improvement of methods and tools around architecture documentation, we conducted a survey with 147 industrial participants, investigating their current problems and wishes for the future. Participants from different countries in Europe, Asia, North and South America shared their experiences. This paper presents the results of the survey. The results confirmed the common belief that architecture documentation is most frequently outdated and inconsistent and backed it up with data. Further, developers perceive difficulties with a "one-size-fits-all" architecture documentation, which does not adequately provide information for their specific task and context. Developers seek for more interactive ways of working with architecture documentation that allow finding needed information more easily with extended navigation and search possibilities. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

Population aging has been taking place in many countries across the globe and more recently in emerging countries. In this context, Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) has become one focus of attention, including methods, products, services, and AAL software systems that support the everyday lives of elderly people, promoting mainly their independence and dignity. From the perspective of computer science, efforts are already being dedicated to adequately developing AAL systems. However, in spite of its relevance, AAL has not been properly investigated in emerging countries, including Brazil. Thus, the contribution of this paper is to present the main perspectives of research in AAL, in particular in the area of software engineering, considering that the Brazilian population is also subject to the aging process. The main intention of this paper is to raise the interest of Brazilian researchers, as well as government and industry, for this important area. © 2012 Elsevier Inc.

The "Daily Care Journal" is a platform that aims at allowing a care taker to stay at home as long as possible. This should be achieved by providing means to build and coordinate care networks between professional and informal care givers, including the care taker. It allows the informal care to document their measures and observations. Additionally it provides care related information that might strengthen the informal care. Synchronized with a professional care information system it allows both, the professional and informal care givers, to exchange care related information with each other and to coordinate their activities. One key technology is the usage of a tablet pc that allows the care taker to document and to actively build and take part of his care network. The "Daily Care Journal" has been developed and evaluated together with a professional care provider. © 2013 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

In this paper we describe our methodology for building context-aware applications. It supports a systematic definition, conception and development of the context-aware features of an application along the different phases of a software development process. Its application has helped us in the discussion and conception of these features in project teams with non-technical domain experts. A context meta-model defines the common concepts and features of concrete context models, which are used in the transition between the different development phases. This context meta-model has been implemented in our context server MILEO. Thus it allows a model-based realization of an application's context logic without explicit programming. We describe how we have applied our methodology in the project 'Daily Care Journal'. © 2012 IEEE.

Current logistic IT systems tend to be monolithic applications with low flexibility and low awareness of interoperability. Modern IT trends like Service Oriented Architectures and Cloud Computing are key factors to provide convenient access to customized IT-Services on demand and as a service. Hence, the idea of the concept Logistics as a Service is to provide domain specific IT services to support the planning and operations in supply chains which are supported by infrastructural technologies. In this paper, the general concepts behind Logistics as a Service as well as exemplary IT services are presented and proven to be applicable by demonstration of several use cases. Logistics as a Service is one leading topic in the EffizienzCluster LogistikRuhr (EfficiencyCluster LogisticsRuhr) and therefore part of the German High Tech Strategy.

The functionality realized by software in modern cars is increasing and as a result the development artifacts of automotive systems are getting more complex. The existence of traceability along these artifacts is essential, since it allows to monitor the product development from the initial requirements to the final code. However, traceability is established and maintained mostly manually, which is time-consuming and error-prone. A further crucial problem is the assurance of the validity of the trace links, that is, the linked elements are indeed related to each other. In this paper we present a semiautomatic approach to create, check, and update trace links between artifacts along an automotive development process. © 2012 IEEE.
