Ecosystem functioning, climate change, and multiple interactions among biogeochemical cycles, climate system, site conditions and land use options are leading-edge topics in recent environmental modelling. Terrestrial ecosystem models are widely used to support carbon sequestration and ecosystem studies under various ecological circumstances. Our team uses the Biome-BGC model (Numerical Terradynamic Simulation Group, University of Montana), and develops an improved model version of it, called Biome-BGC MuSo. Both the original and the improved model estimate the ecosystem scale storage and fluxes of energy, carbon, nitrogen and water, controlled by various physical and biological processes on a daily time-scale. Web services were also developed and integrated with parallel processing desktop grid technology. Taverna workflow management system was used to build up and carry out elaborated workflows like seamless data flow to model simulation, Monte Carlo experiment, model sensitivity analysis, model-data fusion, estimation of ecosystem service indicators or extensive spatial modelling. Straightforward management of complex data analysis tasks, organized into appropriately documented, shared and reusable scientific workflows enables researchers to carry out detailed and scientifically challenging 'in silico' experiments and applications that could open new directions in ecosystem research and in a broader sense it supports progress in environmental modelling. The workflow approach built upon these web services allows even the most complicated computations to be initiated without the need of programming skills and deep understanding of model structure and initialization. The developments enable a wider array of scientists to perform ecosystem scale simulations, and to perform analyses not previously possible due to high complexity and computational demand.

This paper addresses the development and implementation of a testbed for object's manipulation by using unmanned aerial vehicles *** and the VICON Cameras System. Such testbed allows the user to choose among two development environments to perform aerial manipulation establishing a communication with LabVIEW, ROS and the C++ Qt library;thus, the user can employ the development environment more suitable for his application. This testbed allows us to establish communication between a computer and the A.R. Drone (v1 or v2) via a WiFi connection which sends and receives data using the communication protocol UDP and sockets for connection with the vehicle UDP ports. This platform sends control and navigation commands to the UAVs in order to position them in the space with user interaction by means of a graphical user interface. This testbed enables the implementation of more complex applications, such as complex controllers. In addition, to validate the effectiveness of this testbed, experimental results of aerial manipulation between two quadrotors are presented.
The paper investigates the possibility of the Tensor Product (TP) type polytopic modelling of the quasi Linear Parameter Varying (qLPV) model formulation of the Bergman minimal model with the aim to fit the model to t...

The distributed networked control systems are considered in this paper. Several sub-systems which are connected with each other through a communication network make up the whole system. Each sub-system has its own quantizer so that any information which needs be transmitted to other sub-systems will be quantized due to limited bandwidth. Meanwhile, the actuator faults, including outage, loss of effectiveness and stuck are also considered in our research. A mode-based state feedback controller is given in this paper to stable such NCSs and to meet the robust H-inf performance. A simulation example is proposed to illustrate the effectiveness of our method finally.

The rapid penetration of intelligent transportation systems(ITS) into the conventional transportation infrastructure urgently calls for high spectral efficiency high reliability communication technology for vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure(V2X) *** orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM) is widely considered as a promising candidate for such applications,in this paper we propose a novel variation of OFDM for improved spectral efficiency as well as enhanced reliability in V2 X channels with correlated frequency-selective fading and inevitable Doppler *** proposed scheme is built upon a recently emerging technique termed as index modulated(IM-)***,different from the existing localized subcarrier grouping,we propose interleaved subcarrier *** then carry out analytical and simulated comparisons to demonstrate the merits of this new scheme in terms of both the bit error rate(BER)performance and the maximum achievable rate(MAR) of the overall system,in V2 X channels.

This study presents a real-time, and auto-alarm intelligent system of healthcare for ICU patients. The current version of the expert system can detect EEG and ECG to identify different types of abnormal cardiac rhythms in real-time and identify patients' acute stress. The proposed system also activates an emergency medical alarm system when problems occur.

Overlay networks are logical networks running on the highest level of the OSI stack: they are applicative networks used by millions of users everyday. In many scenarios, it would be desirable for peers belonging to overlays running different protocols to communicate with each other and exchange certain information. However, due to differences in their respective protocols, this communication is often difficult or even impossible to be achieved efficiently, even if the overlays are sharing common objectives and functionalities. In this paper, we address this problem by presenting a new overlay protocol, called OGP (Overlay Gateway Protocol), allowing different existing networks to route messages between each other in a backward-compatible fashion, by making use of specialized peers joined together into a super-overlay. Experimental results on a large scale Grid5000 infrastructure show that having only a small number of nodes running the OGP protocol is sufficient for achieving efficient routing between heterogeneous overlay networks.
