This paper is concerned with the ∞ model reduction for linear parameter-varying (LPV) systems with both discrete and distributed delays. For a given stable system, our attention is focused on the construction of reduced-order models, which approximate the original system well in an ∞ norm sense. First, a sufficient condition is proposed for the asymptotic stability with an ∞ performance of the error system by using the parameter-dependent Lyapunov functional method. Then, the decoupling technique is applied, such that there does not exist any product term between the Lyapunov matrices and the system matrices in the parametrised linear matrix inequality (PLMI) constraints; thus a new sufficient condition is obtained. Based on the new condition, two different approaches are developed to solve the model reduction problem. One is the convex linearisation approach and the other is the projection approach. Finally, a numerical example is provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed design method

A modified predictive optimal control (MPOC) scheme based on neural network modeling and particle swarm optimization (PSO) techniques is proposed in this paper for reheater steam temperature (RST) control of a large-scale boiler unit. A recurrent neural network is trained to directly model the temperature dynamic response of the reheater system. The neural network direct model is then used to evaluate the performance of the MPOC in search of the optimal control, where optimization is carried out with the PSO. A simplified PSO algorithm with search direction control is designed to find the nearest and optimal controls for the reheater steam temperature. To further improve the optimal search accuracy, each last-step prediction error between the direct model output and the actual RST is added to the current-step cost function to compensate for the model error. control tests on a full-scope simulator of a large scale power generating unit have shown the validity of the proposed method.

This talk will trace the growing influence of fundamental ideas from computerscience on the nature of research in a number of scientific fields. There is a growing awareness that information processing lies at the heart of the processes studied in fields as diverse as quantum mechanics, statistical physics, nanotechnology, neuroscience, linguistics, economics and sociology. Increasingly, mathematical models in these fields are expressed in algorithmic languages and describe algorithmic processes. The speaker will briefly describe connections between quantum computing and the foundations of quantum mechanics, and between statistical mechanics and phase transitions in computation. He will indicate how the growth of the Web has created new phenomena to be investigated by sociologists and economists. He will then focus in greater detail on computational molecular biology, where the view of living cells as complex information processing systems has become the dominant paradigm, and will discuss specific algorithmic problems arising in the sequencing of genomes, the comparative analysis of the resulting genomic sequences,the modeling of networks of interacting proteins, and the associations between genetic variation and disease.

Fitness landscape analysis techniques are used to better understand the influence of genetic representations and associated variation operators when solving a combinatorial optimization problem. Several representations for the optimal Golomb ruler problem are examined. Common mutation operators such as bit-flip mutation are employed to generate fitness landscapes to study the genetic representations. Furthermore, additional experiments are made to observe the effects of adding heuristics and local improvements to the encodings.

In this paper, we describe an environment which can be used to specify and implement distributed reactive system e.g., globally asynchronous, locally synchronous systems (GALS). We have extended state-charts called as communicating statecharts(CS), with primitives for handling synchronous and asynchronous communication through channels. We also show how to convert the CS specifications into Esterel which enable us to use code generation and verification capabilities in Esterel suite of tools.

Recently, particle filters have been applying to many robotic problems including the simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM). Specifically, SLAM approaches employing Rao-Blackwellized particle filter (RBPF) have shown good results. However, no research is conducted to analyze representation of the results of particle filtering. After finishing the particle filtering, the results such as a map and a path are stored in the separate particles. In most cases, the result of the particle that has the highest importance weight is represented as the result. However, this approach does not give the best result all the time. Thus, We provide the analysis of final representation of particle filtering. In this paper, we compares several methods to derive the final representation of the result after finishing RBPF-SLAM. According to the result, combining data of each particle provides the better result with high probability than using just data of a particle such as the highest weighted particle representation.

In this paper, a class of hybrid impulsive systems with time delays and stochastic effects are considered. We obtain some criteria on the global exponential stability in mean square for the impulsive stochastic delayed systems. To do this, differential inequalities and ℒ-operator inequalities are developed. An example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of our results.
