In order to eliminate limitations of conventional modeling and dynamic prediction methods, multilayer dynamic forward networks are considered as the models of oil field systems, the prediction models and technology of multilayer dynamic forward networks are studied. The deficiency of a recursive prediction error learning algorithm is analysed. An improvement scheme is given. So, the algorithm performance is improved. Thus the method of modeling and prediction for an oil field is renewed. During using the new scheme, excellent results have been obtained which proves that the new scheme is very effective.

This paper deals with the estimation of an unknown process transfer function in the presence of colored measurement noise. A three-step estimation procedure has been previously developed for transfer functions, the delay steps and the orders of which are known in advance. The procedure is extended to deal with transfer functions with unknown delay steps and orders. The auto-correlation function of the error between the process output and model output is utilized for evaluating the model fitness. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated by a simulation study using a sample set of data in MATLAB.

As computerized documents proliferate in every activity area, the instructional domain has been overwhelmed with multimedia learning tools that make an extensive use of fancy graphics and animations. However, their design is usually based on intuition rather than on empirical evidence, and little, if nothing, is known about their actual effect on users. Our research investigates how dynamic options in multimedia documents affect users' understanding and memorization processes. We focused on a device called "sequential display", where clusters of information in a single document are displayed gradually in a meaningful sequence. The results of a preliminary experiment showed that the users memorized the organisation used to display the document. Moreover, this organization affects their performance in further problem solving situations. Thus, these findings suggest that dynamic features may be effective instructional devices, providing that their use is based on actual results from the cognitive and educational research.

Babel and Olariu (1995) introduced the class of (q, t) graphs in which every set of q vertices has at most t distinct induced P 4 s. Graphs of clique-width at most k were introduced by Courcelle, Engelfriet and Rozenberg (1993) as graphs which can be defined by k-expressions based on graph operations which use k vertex labels. In this paper we study the clique–width of the (q, t) graphs, for almost all possible combinations of q and t. On one hand we show that every (q, q - 3) graph for q ≥ 7, has clique–width ≤ q and a q–expression defining it can be obtained in linear time. On the other hand we show that the class of (q, q - 3) graphs for 4 ≤ q ≤ 6 and the class of (q, q - 1) graphs for q ≥ 4 are not of bounded clique-width.

In this paper, we consider the problems of suboptimal control for a class of linear systems with a constant state time-delay. We develop the method of suboptimal control based on sensitivity parameter. The two-point boundary value problem with not only time-delay terms but also time-advance terms is translated into infinite two-point boundary value problems without time-delay and time-advance terms. Through intercepting frontal finite terms of the optimal series solution, we obtain a suboptimal control law. Number of the term intercepted is dependent on the size of the time-delay. The method is especially suitable for the synthesis of small time-delay systems. The arithmetic of solving the suboptimal control law is given. The simulation results show the effectiveness of our method.

This paper describes a method of 3D object tracking by projective invariance. Usually, projective invariance has been used for object recognition and its property discards the need for cumbersome camera calibration to obtain metric information. We focus on the fact the projective invariance is not only regarded as recognition cues but also able to verify, the status of a 3D object for visual tracking. With projective invariance relevant to points, we develop a fast and reliable visual tracking strategy by combining a recognition module using projective invariance, window-based corner trackers for object's center tracking and a visibility checking module. The proposed method is experimented in single IBM-PC platform successfully.
