The COVID-19 outbreak initiated from the Chinese city of Wuhanand eventually affected almost every nation around the globe. From China,the disease started spreading to the rest of the world. After China, Italybecame the next epicentre of the virus and witnessed a very high death *** nations like the USA became severely hit by SARS-CoV-2 virus. TheWorld Health Organisation, on 11th March 2020, declared COVID-19 a pandemic. To combat the epidemic, the nations from every corner of the worldhas instituted various policies like physical distancing, isolation of infectedpopulation and researching on the potential vaccine of SARS-CoV-2. Toidentify the impact of various policies implemented by the affected countrieson the pandemic spread, a myriad of AI-based models have been presented toanalyse and predict the epidemiological trends of COVID-19. In this work, theauthors present a detailed study of different articial intelligence frameworksapplied for predictive analysis of COVID-19 patient record. The forecastingmodels acquire information from records to detect the pandemic spreadingand thus enabling an opportunity to take immediate actions to reduce thespread of the virus. This paper addresses the research issues and correspondingsolutions associated with the prediction and detection of infectious diseaseslike COVID-19. It further focuses on the study of vaccinations to cope withthe pandemic. Finally, the research challenges in terms of data availability,reliability, the accuracy of the existing prediction models and other open issuesare discussed to outline the future course of this study.

Temporal and Spatial Perception: A Novel Perceptual Rate-Distortion Optimization Method for H.266/VVC Encoding

Introducing saliency information to mitigate perceptual redundancy and achieve superior compression represents a novel approach to the development of video compression. Existing saliency-based compression coding methods rely on the determination of saliency regions and focus too much on saliency regions while ignoring the perceptible distortion in non-saliency regions. We propose a spatiotemporal visual perceptual rate-distortion optimization (PRDO) algorithm for Versatile Video Coding (H.266/VVC) that is more in line with the human visual system (HVS). Firstly, we establish a linear weighted distortion model based on spatiotemporal and saliency features. The distortion model makes effective use of saliency features while considering image content in non-saliency regions that is still perceptible to the human eye, thereby achieving an overall visual effect that conforms to human subjective perception. Based on this distortion model, we propose a saliency adaptive quantization parameter (SAQP) selection method with a more flexible quantization parameter selection range, adaptively allocating the optimal coding unit quantization parameter according to the saliency regions of the image, ensuring a balanced bitrate allocation between saliency and non-saliency regions. The proposed method is implemented for the first time on the H.266/VVC coding standard, attaining an average bitrate saving of 19.9% across all test sequences and an average PSNR improvement of 2.65 dB in saliency regions compared to VTM16.0. The BD-EWPSNR of the proposed PRDO and SAQP method improves by 1.34 dB and 1.45 dB in the All-Intra and Lowdelay-P encoding modes, respectively. Additionally, the BD-Rate based on EWPSNR is reduced by 25.86% and 33.73%, respectively, with an overall compression coding time saving of 19.76%. The proposed hand gesture recognition (HGR) system is designed to enhance human-computer interaction (HCI) and human-robot interaction (HRI), which are crucial areas of research aimed at improving the way humans interact with computer or robot systems. With the growing need for intelligent computers and robots in a range of applications, including healthcare, manufacturing, and education, both HCI and HRI have gained significant importance. In this context, the HGR system plays a vital role by enabling natural and intuitive communication between humans and technology through hand gestures. The presented system uses a single camera and efficient image processing techniques that enable real-time gesture detection. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects language, communication, cognitive, and social skills. Early detection of ASD in children is crucial for effective intervention, and machine learning techniques have emerged as promising tools to improve the accuracy and efficiency of detection. This paper presents a range of Machine Learning approaches that have been applied to identify individuals with ASD, with a particular focus on children, using images as input data. The results of these studies demonstrate the potential for Machine Learning to aid in the early detection and diagnosis of ASD in children, which can lead to better outcomes for individuals with this condition. © 2022 Copyright for this paper by its authors.

In the distributed secondary control of DC microgrids, achieving both rapid convergence and robust information security is critical for enhancing control performance and maintaining power quality. However, current privacy-preserving approaches often compromise either control performance or privacy preservation performance. To address this challenge, this paper presents a node-decomposition privacy-preserving (NDPP) method for fully distributed, finite-time secondary control in DC microgrids. By splitting each node in the communication graph into multiple sub-nodes, the method enhances both convergence speed and privacy preservation without sacrificing control accuracy. Sub-nodes communicate within groups, and the topology of the generated graph is concealed from malicious nodes and eavesdroppers. Theoretical analysis is provided to prove finite-time voltage regulation and current sharing with privacy preservation against malicious nodes and external eavesdroppers. Simulations are conducted to verify the effectiveness of the method in maintaining control performance and power quality. © 2010-2012 IEEE.

Background There is increasing epidemiological evidence supporting the association between onchocerciasis and seizures, reinforcing the concept of onchocerciasis-associated epilepsy (OAE). The aim of this paper is to provide an update on the new knowledge about OAE and to propose recommendations to the World Health Organization how to address this public health *** text During the 2nd International Workshop on OAE held on 19-21 September, 2023, in Antwerp, Belgium, participants recognised OAE as a substantial yet neglected public health problem, particularly in areas of sub-Saharan Africa where onchocerciasis remains hyperendemic. Evidence from prospective population-based studies suggest that strengthening onchocerciasis elimination efforts leads to a significant reduction of OAE incidence. There is a need to validate an OAE case definition to estimate the burden of disease and identify onchocerciasis-endemic areas requiring intensification of onchocerciasis elimination programmes and integration of epilepsy care. It is expected that raising awareness about OAE will boost the population uptake of ivermectin. The implementation of a community-based epilepsy treatment programme offering free anti-seizure medications (ASMs) has shown high effectiveness in reducing the frequency of seizures and improving the overall quality of life of people with *** To reduce OAE burden, enhanced collaboration between onchocerciasis and mental health programmes at community, national, and international levels is required. Urgent efforts are needed to ensure the uninterrupted provision of free ASMs in onchocerciasis-endemic areas. Fine particulate matter(PM_(2.5))and ozone(O_(3))pollutions are prevalent air quality issues in *** organic compounds(VOCs)have significant impact on the formation of O_(3)and secondary organic aerosols(SOA)contributing PM_(2.5).Herein,we investigated 54 VOCs,O_(3)and SOA in Tianjin from June 2017 to May 2019 to explore the non-linear relationship among O_(3),SOA and *** monthly patterns of VOCs and SOA concentrations were characterized by peak values during October to March and reached a minimum from April to September,but the observed O_(3)was exactly the *** learning methods resolved the importance of individual VOCs on O_(3)and SOA that alkenes(mainly ethylene,propylene,and isoprene)have the highest importance to O_(3)formation;alkanes(C_(n),n≥6)and aromatics were the main source of SOA *** learning methods revealed and emphasized the importance of photochemical consumptions of VOCs to O_(3)and SOA *** formation potential(OFP)and secondary organic aerosol formation potential(SOAFP)calculated by consumed VOCs quantitatively indicated that more than 80%of the consumed VOCs were alkenes which dominated the O_(3)formation,and the importance of consumed aromatics and alkenes to SOAFP were 40.84%and 56.65%,***,isoprene contributed the most to OFP at 41.45%regardless of the season,while aromatics(58.27%)contributed the most to SOAFP in ***,our findings can provide scientific evidence on policymaking for VOCs controls on seasonal scales to achieve effective reduction in both SOA and O_(3).

In this paper, rather than have a fixed constant matrix in the sandwich control of the nonlinear system, a fuzzy control matrix was used. In addition, simple inequalities that do not require additional computational time and skills in computer programming were used rather than the usual LMI. The result of this method is that the period T required in the control process is shorter and the control time is also reached much faster or reduced compared to the existing sandwich methods that used constant matrices. In other words, the control time of this method is shorter than the control time achieved when using constant matrices. Besides, this method also can be used to control more nonlinear chaotic systems such as Lorenz's, Rössler's and Chen's systems. Numerical simulations were used to demonstrate the effectiveness of this method. © 2023 IEEE.

Backflipping with Miniature Quadcopters by Gaussian Process Based control and Planning

The paper proposes two control methods for performing a backflip maneuver with miniature quadcopters. First, an existing feedforward control approach is improved by finding the optimal sequence of motion primitives via Bayesian optimization, using a surrogate Gaussian Process model. To evaluate the cost function, the flip maneuver is performed repeatedly in a simulation environment. The second method is based on closed-loop control and it consists of two main steps: first a novel robust, adaptive controller is designed to provide reliable reference tracking even in case of model uncertainties. The controller is constructed by augmenting the nominal model of the drone with a Gaussian Process that is trained by using measurement data. Second, an efficient trajectory planning algorithm is proposed, which designs feasible trajectories for the flip maneuver by using only quadratic programming. The two approaches are analyzed in simulations and in real experiments using Bitcraze Crazyflie 2.1 quadcopters. © 2022, CC BY-NC-SA.
