The Industrial Internet of Things or Industry 4.0 efficiently enhances the manufacturing process in terms of raising productivity, system performance, cost reduction, and building large-scale systems. It enables the connection of numerous heterogeneous devices and sensors into the internet network through the utilization of revolutionary techniques that transfer the manufacturing paradigm to intelligent processes. The traditional industrial internet of things adopts centralized architectures and complex encryption algorithms that suffer from several cyber-security threats and lead to data leakage, privacy disclosure, and high computational and communicational costs. In our work, we proposed a decentralized, efficient, low-power, scalable, secure, privacy-preserving, and trusting architecture based on a private blockchain network/smart contract and interplanetary file system technology for the Al-NajafyIraq oil refinery factory. That enables autonomous working and provides a high level of security authentication and privacy preservation, P2P communication, remote access, immutability and information backtracking. Traditional blockchain technology has storage limitation issues, most recent works adopted external servers or the cloud for storage purposes. Our proposed scheme addresses the limitations of blockchain data storage by adopting an interplanetary file system (IPFS) network;provides an efficient data encryption mechanism at the perceptual layer by adopting a lightweight encryption algorithm, high-performance, and ultra-low-power consumption ARM Cortex-M microcontroller. In addition, our architecture succeeds in merging blockchain technology, IoTs, and an IPFS with the oil refinery as an industrial application area. Moreover, it provides an efficient framework that resists common cyber-security attacks and realizes cyber-security requirements represented by data availability, integrity, and confidentiality. © 2022 IEEE.

Polarization-Sensitive Optical Coherence Tomography (PS-OCT) is a real-time 3D imaging technique providing structural and functional contrasts in tissue. Previously, we have quantified multiple contrasts such as back-scattered intensity, accumulated phase retardation, local birefringence, and degree of polarization uniformity in the epidermis and dermis of the skin. Here, we add the Attenuation Coefficient (AC) contrast to quantify light attenuation from absorption and scattering in skin layers. Two techniques are utilized to obtain AC. One involves slope fitting to the logarithm of intensity A-lines, and the other uses a depth-resolved model-based reconstruction of AC. To investigate the effect of skin tone on AC, we first used skin phantoms with various absorption and scattering coefficients. It is found that the color of the phantom directly correlates with the absorption coefficient, while AC correlates with the sum of the absorption and reduced scattering coefficient. Darker objects, indicative of a higher concentration of melanin in the skin tissue, show a higher absorption coefficient. AC is further analyzed on in vivo skin imaging with different skin tones. However, no clear correlation between AC and skin tone is observed. This lack of correlation is likely due to the absorption coefficient being much smaller than the scattering coefficient in skin tissue at the OCT imaging wavelength of 1060 nm. © 2024 SPIE.

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of wearing face masks as a preventive measure to reduce the spread of the virus. In medical settings, such as hospitals and clinics, healthcare professionals and patients are required to wear surgical masks for infection control. However, the use of masks can hinder facial recognition technology, which is commonly used for identity verification and security purposes. In this paper, we propose a convolutional neural network (CNN) based approach to detect faces covered by surgical masks in medical settings. We evaluated the proposed CNN model on a test set comprising of masked and unmasked faces. The results showed that our model achieved an accuracy of over 96% in detecting masked faces. Furthermore, our model demonstrated robustness to different mask types and fit variations commonly encountered in medical settings. Our approaches reaches state of the art results in terms of accuracy and generalization. © 2022 Copyright for this paper by its authors.

Correlation functions (CFs) are universal structural descriptors; surface-surface Fss and surface-void Fsv CFs are a subset containing additional information about the interface between the phases. The description of the interface between pores and solids in porous media is of particular importance and recently Ma and Torquato [Phys. Rev. E 98, 013307 (2018)] proposed an elegant way to compute these functions for a wide variety of cases. However, their “continuous” approach is not always applicable to digital experimental 2D and 3D images of porous media as obtained using x-ray tomography or scanning electron microscopy due to nonsingularities in chemical composition or local solid material's density and partial volume effects. In this paper we propose to use edge-detecting filters to compute surface CFs in the “digital” fashion directly in the images. Computed this way, surface correlation functions are the same as analytically known for Poisson disks in case the resolution of the image is adequate. Based on the multiscale image analysis we developed a C0.5 criterion that can predict if the imaging resolution is enough to make an accurate evaluation of the surface CFs. We also showed that in cases when the input image contains all major features, but do not pass the C0.5 criterion, it is possible with the help of image magnification to sample CFs almost similar to those obtained for high-resolution image of the same structure with high C0.5. The computational framework as developed here is open source and available within the *** package developed by our group. Our “digital” approach was applied to a wide variety of real porous media images of different quality. We discuss critical aspects of surface correlation functions computations as related to different applications. The secondary system is very important for the reliable power supply and safe production of the power system. It includes secondary equipment and secondary circuits. The connection status of the secondary circuits will directly affect the correct operation of protection and automation devices. To solve these devices misoperation and refuse to operate problems caused by the multipoint grounding of PT and CT secondary circuits in substations, this paper proposes an online monitoring system for the insulation status of secondary circuits based on distributed zero sequence current sampling method. This system could greatly reduce the workload of maintenance on the secondary circuits, improves operation efficiency, and ensures the reliable operation of the secondary circuit in substations.

We consider the distributed Cholesky factorization on homogeneous nodes. Inspired by recent progress on asymptotic lower bounds on the total communication volume required to perform Cholesky factorization, we present an original data distribution, Symmetric Block Cyclic (SBC), designed to take advantage of the symmetry of the matrix. We prove that SBC reduces the overall communication volume between nodes by a factor of square root of 2 compared to the standard 2D block-cyclic distribution. SBC can easily be implemented within the paradigm of task-based runtime systems. Experiments using the Chameleon library over the StarPU runtime system demonstrate that the SBC distribution reduces the communication volume as expected, and also achieves better performance and scalability than the classical 2D block-cyclic allocation scheme in all configurations. We also propose a 2.5D variant of SBC and prove that it further improves the communication and performance benefits.

The study of electric vehicles (EVs) aims to address the critical challenges of promoting widespread adoption. These challenges include EVs’ high upfront costs compared to conventional vehicles, the need for more sufficient charging stations, limitations in battery technology and charging speeds, and concerns about the distance EVs can travel on a single charge. This paper is dedicated to designing an innovative strategy to handle EV charging station arrangement issues in different cities. Our research will support the development of sustainable transportation by intelligently replying to the challenges related to short ranges and long recharging times through the distribution of fast and ultra-fast charge terminals by allocating demand to charging stations while considering the cost variable of traffic congestion. A hybrid combination of Dynamic Greylag Goose Optimization (DGGO) algorithm, as well as a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) model, is employed in this approach to determine, in a cost-sensitive way, the location of the parking lots, factoring in the congestion for traffic as a variable. This study examines in detail the experiments on the DGGO + LSTM model performance for the purpose of finding an efficient charging station place. The results show that the DGGO + LSTM model has achieved a stunning accuracy of 0.988,836, more than the other models. This approach shapes our finding’s primary purpose of proposing solutions in terms of EV charging infrastructure optimization that is fully justified to the EV’s wide diffusion and mitigating of the environmental consequences. Biometric identification methods using vascular modalities (vein pattern of the finger, wrist, ventral and dorsal part of the metacarpal) use near infrared (NIR) illumination to obtain an image of the vein pattern. The “classic” attack scenario for this type of biometric system involves the use of a photograph of the user’s vein pattern, printed on ordinary office paper and obtained under NIR illumination, as a presentation attack tool. This attack scenario has been well studied by researchers and there are several reliable ways to detect such an attack. New biometric attack vectors on these systems involve the use of attack tools created using NIR reflective compounds. In order to develop effective methods to detect and counter this type of attack, it is necessary to study the characteristics of the attack tool in each of the $750-950 \mathrm{~nm}$ NIR sub-bands of the venous channel imaging band. In this paper, the authors present the stages of creating a hardware tool for obtaining an image of the vascular pattern to solve the problem at hand.

Performance of Offloading Strategies in Collocated Deployments of Millimeter Wave NR-U Technology

5G New Radio (NR) technology operating in millimeter wave (mmWave) band is expected to be utilized in areas with high and fluctuating traffic demands such as city squares, shopping malls, etc. The latter may result in quality of service (QoS) violations. To deal with this challenge, 3GPP has recently proposed NR unlicensed (NR-U) technology that may utilize 60 GHz frequency band. In this paper, we investigate the deployment of NR-U base stations (BS) simultaneously operating in licensed and unlicensed mmWave bands in presence of competing WiGig traffic, where NR-U users may use unlicensed band as long as session rate requirements are met. To this aim, we utilize the tools of stochastic geometry, Markov chains, and queuing systems with random resource requirements to simultaneously capture NRU/WiGig coexistence mechanism and session service dynamics in the presence of mmWave-specific channel impairments. We then proceed comparing performance of different offloading strategies by utilizing the eventual session loss probability as the main metric of interest. Our results show non-trivial behaviour of the collision probability in the unlicensed band as compared to lower frequency systems. The baseline strategy, where a session is offloaded onto unlicensed band only when there are no resources available in the licensed one, leads to the best performance. The offloading strategy, where sessions with heavier-than-average requirements are immediately directed onto unlicensed band results in just 2−5% performance loss. The worst performance is observed when sessions with smaller-than-average requirements are offloaded onto unlicensed band. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Abstract—: A general equilibrium model, which describes the interaction of heterogeneous agents who choose between the labor market and self-employment and the state, which plays the role of an inspection body (auditor) in a model that controls the fact of tax evasion, is considered. It is shown that in the case of information asymmetry, the tax rate that maximizes the amount of tax revenues increases. Under information asymmetry, the Laffer curve approaches its analog with symmetric information if the penalties or the budgets of the tax office are high. Despite the fact that in equilibrium the amount of penalties paid is zero, they have a significant effect on the amount of tax revenues. As an effective deterrent to tax violators, they are increasing the amount of tax collections at a slower pace. © 2021, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.
