Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) has been considered a key feature of next-generation wireless networks. This paper investigates the joint design of the radar receive filter and dual-functional transmit waveform for the multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) ISAC system. While optimizing the mean square error (MSE) of the radar receive spatial response and maximizing the achievable rate at the communication receiver, besides the constraints of full-power radar receiving filter and unimodular transmit sequence, we control the maximum range sidelobe level, which is often overlooked in existing ISAC waveform design literature, for better radar imaging performance. To solve the formulated optimization problem with convex and nonconvex constraints, we propose an inexact augmented Lagrangian method (ALM) algorithm. For each subproblem in the proposed inexact ALM algorithm, we custom-design a block successive upper-bound minimization (BSUM) scheme with closed-form solutions for all blocks of variable to enhance the computational efficiency. Convergence analysis shows that the proposed algorithm is guaranteed to provide a stationary and feasible solution. Extensive simulations are performed to investigate the impact of different system parameters on communication and radar imaging performance. QoS-Aware and Routing-Flexible Network Slicing for Service-Oriented Networks

In this paper, we consider the network slicing (NS) problem which attempts to map multiple customized virtual network requests (also called services) to a common shared network infrastructure and manage network resources to meet diverse quality of service (QoS) requirements. We propose a mixed-integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) formulation for the considered NS problem that can flexibly route the traffic flow of the services on multiple paths and provide end-to-end delay and reliability guarantees for all services. To overcome the computational difficulty due to the intrinsic nonlinearity in the MINLP formulation, we transform the MINLP formulation into an equivalent mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) formulation and further show that their continuous relaxations are equivalent. In sharp contrast to the continuous relaxation of the MINLP formulation which is a nonconvex nonlinear programming problem, the continuous relaxation of the MILP formulation is a polynomial-time solvable linear programming problem, which significantly facilitates the algorithmic design. Based on the newly proposed MILP formulation, we develop a customized column generation (cCG) algorithm for solving the NS problem. The proposed cCG algorithm is a decomposition-based algorithm and is particularly suitable for solving large-scale NS problems. Asymptotic SEP Analysis and Optimization of Linear-Quantized Precoding in Massive MIMO Systems

A promising approach to deal with the high hardware cost and energy consumption of massive MIMO transmitters is to use low-resolution digital-to-analog converters (DACs) at each antenna element. This leads to a transmission scheme where the transmitted signals are restricted to a finite set of voltage levels. This paper is concerned with the analysis and optimization of a low-cost quantized precoding strategy, referred to as linear-quantized precoding, for a downlink massive MIMO system under Rayleigh fading. In linear-quantized precoding, the signals are first processed by a linear precoding matrix and subsequently quantized component-wise by the DAC. In this paper, we analyze both the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) and the symbol error probability (SEP) performances of such linear-quantized precoding schemes in an asymptotic framework where the number of transmit antennas and the number of users grow large with a fixed ratio. Our results provide a rigorous justification for the heuristic arguments based on the Bussgang decomposition that are commonly used in prior works. Based on the asymptotic analysis, we further derive the optimal precoder within a class of linear-quantized precoders that includes several popular precoders as special cases. Our numerical results demonstrate the excellent accuracy of the asymptotic analysis for finite systems and the optimality of the derived precoder. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Provably convergent Newton-Raphson methods for recovering primitive variables with applications to physical-constraint-preserving Hermite WENO schemes for relativistic hydrodynamics

The relativistic hydrodynamics (RHD) equations have three crucial intrinsic physical constraints on the primitive variables: positivity of pressure and density, and subluminal fluid velocity. However, numerical simulations can violate these constraints, leading to nonphysical results or even simulation failure. Designing genuinely physical-constraint-preserving (PCP) schemes is very difficult, as the primitive variables cannot be explicitly reformulated using conservative variables due to relativistic effects. In this paper, we propose three efficient Newton–Raphson (NR) methods for robustly recovering primitive variables from conservative variables. Importantly, we rigorously prove that these NR methods are always convergent and PCP, meaning they preserve the physical constraints throughout the NR iterations. The discovery of these robust NR methods and their PCP convergence analyses are highly nontrivial and technical. As an application, we apply the proposed NR methods to design PCP finite volume Hermite weighted essentially non-oscillatory (HWENO) schemes for solving the RHD equations. Our PCP HWENO schemes incorporate high-order HWENO reconstruction, a PCP limiter, and strong-stability-preserving time discretization. We rigorously prove the PCP property of the fully discrete schemes using convex decomposition techniques. Moreover, we suggest the characteristic decomposition with rescaled eigenvectors and scale-invariant nonlinear weights to enhance the performance of the HWENO schemes in simulating large-scale RHD problems. Several demanding numerical tests are conducted to demonstrate the robustness, accuracy, and high resolution of the proposed PCP HWENO schemes and to validate the efficiency of our NR methods. In this paper, a fifth-order moment-based Hermite weighted essentially non-oscillatory scheme with unified stencils (termed as HWENO-U) is proposed for hyperbolic conservation laws. The main idea of the HWENO-U scheme is to modify the first-order moment by a HWENO limiter only in the time discretizations using the same information of spatial reconstructions, in which the limiter not only overcomes spurious oscillations well, but also ensures the stability of the fully-discrete scheme. For the HWENO reconstructions, a new scale-invariant nonlinear weight is designed by incorporating only the integral average values of the solution, which keeps all properties of the original one while is more robust for simulating challenging problems with sharp scale variations. Compared with previous HWENO schemes, the advantages of the HWENO-U scheme are: (1) a simpler implemented process involving only a single HWENO reconstruction applied throughout the entire procedures without any modifications for the governing equations;(2) increased efficiency by utilizing the same candidate stencils, reconstructed polynomials, and linear and nonlinear weights in both the HWENO limiter and spatial reconstructions;(3) reduced problem-specific dependencies and improved rationality, as the nonlinear weights are identical for the function u and its non-zero multiple ζu. Besides, the proposed scheme retains the advantages of previous HWENO schemes, including compact reconstructed stencils and the utilization of artificial linear weights. Riemannian Optimization for Holevo Capacity

computing the classical capacity of a noisy quantum channel is crucial for understanding the limits of communication over quantum channels. However, its evaluation remains challenging due to the difficulty of computing the Holevo capacity and the even greater difficulty of regularization. In this work, we formulate the computation of the Holevo capacity as an optimization problem on a product manifold constructed from probability distributions and their corresponding pure input states for a quantum channel. A Riemannian gradient descent algorithm is proposed to solve the problem, providing lower bounds on the classical capacity of general quantum channels and outperforming existing methods in numerical experiments in both efficiency and scale. © 2025, CC BY.

Covariance-Based Device Activity Detection with Massive MIMO for Near-Field Correlated Channels

This paper studies the device activity detection problem in a massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system for near-field communications (NFC). In this system, active devices transmit their signature sequences to the base station (BS), which detects the active devices based on the received signal. In this paper, we model the near-field channels as correlated Rician fading channels and formulate the device activity detection problem as a maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) problem. Compared to the traditional uncorrelated channel model, the correlation of channels complicates both algorithm design and theoretical analysis of the MLE problem. On the algorithmic side, we propose two computationally efficient algorithms for solving the MLE problem: an exact coordinate descent (CD) algorithm and an inexact CD algorithm. The exact CD algorithm solves the one-dimensional optimization subproblem exactly using matrix eigenvalue decomposition and polynomial root-finding. By approximating the objective function appropriately, the inexact CD algorithm solves the one-dimensional optimization subproblem inexactly with lower complexity and more robust numerical performance. Additionally, we analyze the detection performance of the MLE problem under correlated channels by comparing it with the case of uncorrelated channels. The analysis shows that when the overall number of devices N is large or the signature sequence length L is small, the detection performance of MLE under correlated channels tends to be better than that under uncorrelated channels. Conversely, when N is small or L is large, MLE performs better under uncorrelated channels than under correlated ones. This study aimed to assess the changes of small intestinal morphology,progenitors,differentiated epithelial cells,and potential mechanisms in neonatal *** and eosin staining of samples from 36 piglets suggested that dramatic changes were observed in the jejunum crypts depth and crypt fission index of neonatal piglets(P<0.001).The number of intestinal stem cells(ISC)tended to increase(P<0.10),and a decreased number of enteroendocrine cells appeared in the jejunal crypt on d 7(P<0.05).Furthermore,the mRNA expression of jejunal chromogranin A(ChgA)was down-regulated in d 7 piglets(P<0.05).There was an up-regulation of the adult ISC marker gene of SPARC related modular calcium binding 2(Smoc2),and Wnt/b-catenin target genes on d 7(P<0.05).These results were further verified in vitro enteroid culture experiments.A mass of hollow spheroids was cultured from the fetal intestine of 0-d-old piglets(P<0.001),whereas substantial organoids with budding and branching structures were cultured from the intestine of 7-d-old piglets(P<0.001).The difference was reflected by the organoid budding efficiency,crypt domains per organoid,and the surface area of the ***,spheroids on d 0 had more Ki67-positive cells and enteroendocrine cells(P<0.05)and showed a decreasing trend in the ISC and goblet cells(P<0.10).Moreover,the mRNA expression of spheroids differed markedly from that of organoids,with low expression of intestinal differentiation gene(Lysozyme;P<0.05),epithelial-specific markers(Villin,E-cadherin;P<0.05),and adult ISC markers(leucine-rich repeat-containing G protein-coupled receptor 5[Lgr5],Smoc2;P<0.001),and upregulation of fetal marker(connexin 43[Cnx43];P<0.05).The mRNA expression of relevant genes was up-regulated,and involved in Wnt/b-catenin,epidermal growth factor(EGF),Notch,and bone morphogenetic protein(BMP)signaling on d 7 organoids(P<0.05).Spheroids displayed low differentiated phenotype and high proliferation,while organoids exhibite

pκ-Curves: Interpolatory curves with curvature approximating a parabola

This paper introduces a novel class of fair and interpolatory planar curves called pκ-curves. These curves are comprised of smoothly stitched Bézier curve segments, where the curvature distribution of each segment is made to closely resemble a parabola, resulting in an aesthetically pleasing shape. Moreover, each segment passes through an interpolated point at a parameter where the parabola has an extremum, encouraging the alignment of interpolated points with curvature extrema. To achieve these properties, we tailor an energy functional that guides the optimization process to obtain the desired curve characteristics. Additionally, we develop an efficient algorithm and an initialization method, enabling interactive modeling of the pκ-curves without the need for global optimization. We provide various examples and comparisons with existing state-of-the-art methods to demonstrate the curve modeling capabilities and visually pleasing appearance of pκ-curves. © 2024 Elsevier B.V.
