Second-order memristors are considered as ideal synaptic emulators for their capability of exhibiting Ca2+-like dynamics. Recently, ferroelectric second-order memristors were developed, but whether their temporal conductance evolution is related to polarization dynamics remains unclear owing to the difficulty in directly measuring polarization in these devices. This issue is addressed here by using a ferroelectric diode (FD) that shows both second-order memristive behavior and well-shaped polarization-voltage hysteresis loops. It is demonstrated that the resistance-state change in the FD is triggered by polarization switching, arising from polarization-controlled Schottky emission. Moreover, concurrent conductance decay and polarization relaxation are observed, and their correlation is quantitatively evidenced, suggesting that conductance decay is caused by the polarization-relaxation-induced increase in the Schottky barrier height. Using polarization relaxation as an internal timing mechanism, our FD-based second-order memristor faithfully emulates various synaptic functions, where short-term plasticity is indispensable, including excitatory postsynaptic current, paired-pulse facilitation, the transition from short-term plasticity to long-term plasticity, learning experience, and associative learning. Our study not only reveals a polarization-dominated internal timing mechanism in the FD-based second-order memristor, but also demonstrates that such a device is a promising building block for biorealistic neuromorphic systems.

Electroencephalogram （EEG） based brain-computer interfaces allow users to communicate with the external environment by means of their EEG signals, without relying on the brain＇s usual output pathways such as muscles. A popular application for EEGs is the EEG-based speller, which translates EEG signals into intentions to spell particular words, thus benefiting those suffering from severe disabilities, such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Although the EEG-based English speller （EEGES） has been widely studied in recent years, few studies have focused on the EEG-based Chinese speller （EEGCS）. The EEGCS is more difficult to develop than the EEGES, because the English alphabet contains only 26 letters. By contrast, Chinese contains more than 11000 logographic characters. The goal of this paper is to survey the literature on EEGCS systems. First, the taxonomy of current EEGCS systems is discussed to get the gist of the paper. Then, a common framework unifying the current EEGCS and EEGES systems is proposed, in which the concept of EEG-based choice acts as a core component. In addition, a variety of current EEGCS systems are investigated and discussed to highlight the advances, current problems, and future directions for EEGCS.

Syllogistic reasoning is important due to the prominence of syllogistic arguments in human reasoning, and also to the role they have played in theory of reasoning from Aristotle onwards. Aristotelian syllogistic logic is a formal study of the meaning of four Aristotelian quantifiers and of their properties. This paper focuses on logical system based on syllogistic reasoning. It firstly formalized the 24 valid Aristotle's syllogisms, and then has proven that the other 22 valid Aristotle's syllogisms can be derived from the syllogisms ‘Barbara' AAA-1 and ‘Celarent' EAE-1 by means of generalized quantifier theory and set theory, so the paper has completed the axiomatization of Aristotelian syllogistic Logic. This axiomatization needs to make full use of symmetry and transformable relations between/among the monotonicity of the four Aristotelian quantifiers from the perspective of generalized quantifier theory. In fact, these innovative achievements and the method in this paper provide a simple and reasonable mathematical model for studying other generalized syllogisms. It is hoped that the present study will make contributions to the development of generalized quantifier theory, and to bringing about consequences to natural language information processing as well as knowledge representation and reasoning in computer science.

China and the world are facing severe population aging and an increasing burden of age-related diseases. Aging of the brain causes major age-related brain diseases, such as neurodegenerative diseases and stroke. Identifying biomarkers for the effective assessment of brain aging and establishing a brain aging assessment system could facilitate the development of brain aging intervention strategies and the effective prevention and treatment of aging-related brain diseases. Thus, experts from the Aging Biomarker Consortium (ABC) have combined the latest research results and practical experience to recommend brain aging biomarkers and form an expert consensus, aiming to provide a basis for assessing the degree of brain aging and conducting brain-aging-related research with the ultimate goal of improving the brain health of elderly individuals in both China and the world.

Recent years have witnessed a rapid spread of multi-modality microblogs like Twitter and Sina Weibo composed of image, text and emoticon. Visual sentiment prediction of such microblog based social media has recently attracted ever-increasing research focus with broad application prospect. In this paper, we give a systematic review of the recent advances and cutting-edge techniques for visual senti- ment analysis. To this end, in this paper we review the most recent works in this topic, in which detailed comparison as well as experimental evaluation are given over the cuttingedge methods. We further reveal and discuss the future trends and potential directions for visual sentiment prediction.

Software defect prediction generally builds models from intra-project data. Lack of training data at the early stage of software testing limits the efficiency of prediction in practice. Thereby researchers proposed cross-project defect prediction using the data from other projects. Most previous efforts assumed the cross-project defect data have the same metrics set which means the metrics used and size of metrics set are same in the data of projects. However, in real scenarios, this assumption may not hold. In addition, software defect datasets have the class imbalance problem increasing the difficulty for the learner to predict defects. In this paper, we advance canonical correlation analysis for deriving a joint feature space for associating crossproject data and propose a novel support vector machine algorithm which incorporates the correlation transfer information into classifier design for cross-project prediction. Moreover, we take different misclassification costs into consideration to make the classification inclining to classify a module as a defective one, alleviating the impact of imbalanced data. Experiments on public heterogeneous datasets from different projects show that our method is more effective, compared to state-of-the-art methods. With the progress of social medias, an increasing number of dynamic multimedia, such as video clips (GIF), were used in Internet. Many of them show the subjective sentiment of users. GIF sentiment analysis is important for political election predication and economic indicator evaluation. Unfortunately, such task is quite challenging because the users' sentiment hinges on spatial-temporal visual concepts. And the relationship between such concepts and overall sentiment polarity remains unknown. In this paper, dedicated to build a bridge to exploring such relationship, we proposed a SentiPair Sequence based spatial-temporal visual sentiment ontology. The ontology serves as a mid-level representation of GIF sentiment analysis. In order to analyze sentiment polarity, we first constructed a Synset Forest to define the semantic tree structure of visual sentiment concepts. Then, through the Synset Forest, we organically select and combine sentiment label elements to form a mid-level visual sentiment representation. Our experiments indicate that SentiPair outperforms Adjective Noun Pairs which is a state-of-art visual sentiment ontology for image. We also released our dataset (GSO-2015) to the research community. GSO-2015 contains more than 6,000 manually labeled GIFs and 40,000 unlabeled GIFs. Each is labeled with both sentiment and SentiPair Sequence.

Building a grid-semantic map for the navigation of service robots through human–robot interaction

This paper presents an interactive approach to the construction of a grid-semantic map for the navigation of service robots in an indoor environment. It is based on the Robot Operating System(ROS) framework and contains four modules, namely Interactive Module, Control Module, Navigation Module and Mapping Module. Three challenging issues have been focused during its development:(i) how human voice and robot visual information could be effectively deployed in the mapping and navigation process;(ii) how semantic names could combine with coordinate data in an online Grid-Semantic map; and(iii) how a localization–evaluate–relocalization method could be used in global localization based on modified maximum particle weight of the particle swarm. A number of experiments are carried out in both simulated and real environments such as corridors and offices to verify its feasibility and performance.

Rumor is one of the important issues for social media. Previous works mainly focus on using social attribute features in rumor analysis. However, social attribute features don't indicate the purpose of a rumor which is one of the most important aspects of a rumor. To solve that problem, we focus on not only those social attribute features, but also social content features to find out what kind of features are useful for exploring the purpose of a rumor. Finally, we propose 6 kinds of features, where four of them belong to social attribute features and two of them belong to social content features. To uncover the purpose of rumors from proposed features, we choose Sina weibo, the biggest micro-blog platform in China, and crawl 11,676 rumors for analysis. The analysis results show that the diffusion purpose of rumors can be concluded from social content attributes, and proposed two layers KL divergence approach is useful in diffusion purpose words perception.
