Asymptotic solution of a wide moving jam to a class of higher-order viscous traffic flow models

The boundary-layer method is used to study a wide moving jam to a class of higher-order viscous models. The equations for characteristic parameters are derived to determine the asymptotic solution. The sufficient and essential conditions for the wide moving jam formation are discussed in detail, respectively, and then used to prove or disprove the existence of the wide moving jam solutions to many well-known higher-order models. It is shown that the numerical results agree with the analytical results.

Surface reconstruction of dynamic scenes from single view videos is a challenging task due to the highly ill-posed and under-constrained nature. Existing single view reconstruction methods suffer from severe quality issues, such as surface distortion and mesh adherison. In this paper, we propose an efficient dynamic representation network, PD-SDF, which consists of a 4D motion field and a 3D geometry field. The explicit disentanglement of motion and geometry based on planar factorization guarantees the mesh consistency across frames. Specifically, to address the mesh adhesion problem, we design a depth-guided sampling strategy to focus on optimizing the SDF field near the object surface. Due to insufficient geometric cues, we design various regularization strategies to constrain smoothness and topological correcness of the scene geometry. Extensive experiments show that our method outperforms existing methods in both appearance and geometry reconstruction. The project page: https://***/

Predicting Rainfall-induced Landslide Using Bee Colony Algorithm Based on Support Vector Regression

Objective: Natural disasters caused by landslides have done great harm to agricultural production, people's lives, and property. Considering the slope disaster caused by heavy rainfall, it is important to establish an early warning system to monitor rainfall disaster prevention. Huafang University Slope Sustainable Development Research Center (HUSSDRC) has set up a meteorological station equipped with many sensors to provide early warning for landslides in Taiwan. Since the amount of data collected will soon become very large, there is a need to implement strong parallel frameworks containing information from the meteorological station and the displacement of tiltmeters required to predict the landslides caused by rainfall. Apache Spark (AS) is a general framework that contains the parallel process engine for data analytics. In this study, a hybrid method is utilized to predict rainfall-induced landslides. The proposed method combines support vector regression (SVR) with an artificial bee colony (ABC) algorithm on the parallel platform of AS. For the proposed method, the RMSE is 0.562, and it is the best value among these compared approaches. Methods: The SVR together with an ABC algorithm is applied to predict rainfall-induced landslides on AS. The AS can perform parallel data analytics in memory to speed up performance. However, it is hard to set up the best parameters for SVR. Thereafter, the ABC algorithm is utilized to search for the best parameters for SVR. Results: Compared with other methods, the proposed method results provide the smallest root mean square error (RMSE) for predicting rainfall-induced landslides. Conclusion: A hybrid method is proposed to predict rainfall-induced landslides. The proposed hybrid method is based on the parallel platform of AS in which SVR predicts the rainfall-induced landslides, and the ABC algorithm adjusts the best values of parameters for SVR. Traditional recommendation methods often have incomplete understandings of recommendation evaluation indicators. They are limited to the accuracy of recommendation, but often ignore the diversity, novelty, coverage and other indicators. Therefore, the recommendation system should use more evaluation indicators to meet personalized demands of users so as to obtain satisfactory results. This is closely related to the problem of multi-objective optimization. This paper describes the mathematical expression of the multi-objective optimization problem and uses NSGA-II algorithm to test its accuracy and diversity indexes of Netflix dataset. The experimental results show that NSGA-II algorithm can meet multi-objective requirements of the recommendation system and the experimental results are satisfactory. © 2020 IEEE.

The main purpose of this paper is to introduce some approximation properties of a Kantorovich kind q-Bernstein operators related to B′ezier basis functions with shape parameterλ∈[−1,1].Firstly,we compute some basic results such as moments and central moments,and derive the Korovkin type approximation theorem for these ***,we estimate the order of convergence in terms of the usual modulus of continuity,for the functions belong to Lipschitz-type class and Peetre’s K-functional,***,with the aid of Maple software,we present the comparison of the convergence of these newly defined operators to the certain function with some graphical illustrations and error estimation table.

Virtual Machine Consolidation (VMC) is an effective means to improve the resource utilization and reduce energy consumption of data centers. However, the VMC optimization that only considers energy consumption may lead to SLA (Service-Level Agreements) violations and thus fail to guarantee the QoS (Quality of Service) provided. Therefore, it is necessary to consider both energy saving and SLA violations in the process of VMC. In this paper, we propose an energy and SLA-aware VMC algorithm that considers both energy saving and SLA violation optimization in data centers. The proposed algorithm uses the local regression method to predict the utilization of virtual machines, based on which it determines whether the host will be overloaded, so as to make the decision of virtual machine migrations. The proposed VMC algorithm is evaluated with CloudSim toolkit. Simulation results demonstrate that our algorithm has good energy saving performance and can effectively reduce SLA violation in cloud data center. Considering energy consumption and SLA violation, the ESV can be reduced by 7.57% on average and 16.36% at most compared with other algorithms. © 2023 IEEE.

Hadoop MapReduce has been proven an effective computing model to deal with big data for the last few years. However, one technical challenge facing this framework is how to predict the execution time of an individual job. In this paper, we propose a regression-based method to predict the execution times of Hadoop jobs. The proposed prediction method consists of three phases: learning data sampling, regression analysis and making prediction. Experimental results show that the predicted execution time obtained by our method is close to the actual execution time. © 2015 Taylor & Francis Group, London.

Cloud data centers consume vast amounts of electrical energy all over the world. Energy conservation in data centers has become a severe problem. This paper presents an energy-efficient virtual machine (VM) consolidation algorithm for cloud data centers. The proposed policy exploits the average utilization of each VM to estimate the expected utilization of physical hosts. Then, the expected utilization, the actual utilization and the static threshold are combined together to determine whether a host is at the status of overloading or not. Some VM(s) on the overloading hosts are then selected for migration to avoid Service Level Agreements (SLA) violations. The results of the experiment show that the proposed algorithm can effectively reduce energy consumption while guarantee SLAs. © Copyright owned by the author(s).
