The scheduling process involves many actors representing different manufacturing perspectives, such as management, customer-service, manufacturing, quality assurance and distribution. There is a great need to give support to those actors. In this work we propose to address the scheduling problem through a collaborative framework Our model considers the interaction between an agent based scheduling module and a group decisionsupport module. The agent based scheduling module encapsulate several scheduling algorithms generating a set of candidate solutions, each one of them according a specific criteria. The group decisionsupport module supports the interaction between the scheduling actors envisaging the selection of a scheduling solution.

Some recent trends in manufacturing in particular and business in general, lead to new approaches regarding the organisation and software architecture, mainly adopting distributed solutions. Such organisations imply organisational and technological evolution through agility, distribution, decentralisation, reactivity and flexibility. New organisational and technological paradigms are needed in order to reply to the modern manufacturing systems challenges. The Multi-Agent paradigm represents one of the most promising approaches to build complex, flexible, and cost-effective scheduling systems because of its distributed and dynamic nature. Modelling the Scheduling of Manufacturing Systems by means of two technologies like Meta-Heuristics and Multi-Agent Systems seems to be an interesting way to see Industrial Systems in the future. A multi-agent based model for support dynamic scheduling in manufacturing environments is proposed.

In a liberalized electricity market, participants have several types of contracts to sell or buy electrical energy. Increasing electricity markets liquidity and, simultaneously, providing to market participants tools for hedging against spot electricity price were the two main reasons for the appearance of those types of contracts. However, due to the payoff nonlinearity characteristic of those contracts, deciding the optimal portfolio that best adjusts to their necessities becomes a hard task. This paper presents an optimization model applied to optimal contract allocation using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). This optimization model consists on finding the portfolio that maximizes the electricity producer results and simultaneously allows the practice of the hedge against the volatility of the System Marginal Price (SMP). Risk management is considered through the consideration of a mean-variance optimization function. An example for a programming period is presented using spot, forward and options contracts. PSO performance in such type of problems is evaluated by comparing it with the Genetic Algorithms (GA).

We forecast a future in which the global economy and the Internet will host a large number of interacting software agents. Most of them will be economically motivated, and will negotiate a variety of goods and services. It is therefore important to consider the economic incentives and behaviours of economic software agents, and to use all available means to anticipate their collective interactions. This paper addresses this concern by presenting a multi-agent market simulator designed for analysing agent market strategies based on a complete understanding of buyer and seller behaviours, preference models and pricing algorithms. The results of the negotiations between agents will be analysed by data mining tools in order to extract rules that will give the agents feedback to improve their strategies.

Because it is difficult to engineer a complex ontology with time, we here consider a method that allows for factorizing the complexity of the engineering process, FONTE (Factorizing ONTology engineering complexity). FONTE divides the engineering task into building a time-less domain ontology and a temporal theory independently from each other. FONTE provides an operator that assembles the two independently developed ontologies into the targeted ontology. We investigate the quality of the proposed operator by applying it to a practical case study, viz. the engineering of an ontology about researchers including temporal interactions. Ontology mapping is the process whereby two ontologies are semantically related at conceptual level and the source ontology instances are transformed into target ontology entities according to those semantic relations. Ontology mapping faces new challenges in the context of semantic Web, especially concerning heterogeneity, dynamics, distribution and limitations on representation technology. We introduce a new methodology and transformation process based on the notion of service, which represents system transformation capabilities. MAFRA toolkit is a specific implementation of MAFRA-mapping framework, where these new methodology and transformation process are being validated. MAFRA toolkit is being applied in the European project Harmonise, which aims to provide solutions for (semi) automatic interoperability between major operators in tourism e-business. MAFRA plays a major role in the specification, representation and reconciliation phases of the semantic mapping within the scope of the Harmonise technology.
