Intelligent negotiation model for ubiquitous group decision scenarios

supporting group decision-making in ubiquitous contexts is a complex task that must deal with a large amount of factors to succeed. Here we propose an approach for an intelligent negotiation model to support the group decision-making process specifically designed for ubiquitous contexts. Our approach can be used by researchers that intend to include arguments, complex algorithms, and agents' modeling in a negotiation model. It uses a social networking logic due to the type of communication employed by the agents and it intends to support the ubiquitous group decision-making process in a similar way to the real process, which simultaneously preserves the amount and quality of intelligence generated in face-to-face meetings. We propose a new look into this problem by considering and defining strategies to deal with important points such as the type of attributes in the multicriterion problems, agents' reasoning, and intelligent dialogues.

An electrocardiogram (ECG) system deals with several challenges related with noise sources. The denoising process is a challenge due to ECG signal amplitude with respect to noise amplitude. The filtering process can be executed by analogue filters or digital filters, however, modern systems uses digital filters mainly because their flexibility, efficiency and hardware costs reduction. This paper compares the ability of two digital techniques used in ECG denoising, namely Adaptive Filter (AF) and Singular Value Decomposition (SVD). The techniques were applied to real ECG signals contaminated with the most common noise sources;artefacts caused by electromyography (EMG) and power line noise (Hum). Copyright 2016 ACM.

This paper presents a multi-objective energy scheduling for the daily operation of, a Smart Grid (SG) considering maximization of the minimum available reserve in addition to the cost minimization, to take into account the reliability requirements of critical and vulnerable loads. A Virtual Power Player (VPP) manages the day-ahead energy resource scheduling in the smart grid, considering Distributed Generation (DG) and Vehicle-To-Grid (V2G), while maintaining a highly reliable power for the critical loads. This work considers high penetration of critical loads, e.g. industrial processes that require high power quality, high reliability and few interruptions. A mathematical formulation is described and a deterministic technique based on Mixed-Integer Linear Programming (MILP) is used to solve the multi-objective problem. The effect of some customers with DR in this context is analyzed to assess the benefits in the energy scheduling problem. A case study using a 180-bus Portuguese distribution network with 90 load points, several DG units and a large fleet of Electric Vehicles (EVs) with V2G is used to illustrate the performance of the proposed method.

This paper presents a proposal for the use of the Hybrid Fuzzy Inference System algorithm (HyFIS) as solar intensity forecast mechanism. Fuzzy Inference Systems (FIS) are used to solve regression problems in various contexts. The HyFIS is a method based on FIS with the particular advantage of combining fuzzy concepts with Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), thus optimizing the learning process. This algorithm is part of several other FIS algorithms implemented in the Fuzzy Rule-Based Systems (FRBS) package of R. The ANN algorithms and support Vector Machine (SVM), both widely used for solving regression problems, are also used in this study to allow the comparison of results. Results show that HyFIS presents higher performance when compared to the ANN and SVM, when applied to real data of Florianopolis, Brazil, which helps to reinforce the potential of this algorithm in solving the solar intensity forecasting problems.

Demand Response integration into an intelligent power system brings the consumers several advantages, not just in terms of lower energy tariffs, but also the benefit of monetary incentives for their participation. In this paper, an aggregator proceeds to perform the resources scheduling in order to reduce operational costs. After the scheduling, three reduction levels are applied to the most expensive producers. The value of reduction made by the producers is then followed by consumer's load decrease, considering their participation in an incentive-based demand response program. The prices applied to consumers depend upon the weighted average of production tariffs by type of resource. The considered network for the case study has 548 distributed generators, 10 external suppliers and 20310 consumers. Results show that the energy price can be reduced by implementing demand resources into the network scheduling, removing the most expensive producers.

This paper presents a Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) methodology to solve the problem of energy resource management with high penetration of Distributed Generation (DG) and Electric Vehicles (EVs), based in multi-objective optimization. The high penetration of unpredictable DG, results in the increase of the operation cost, due to the additional constraints on the system, and has a direct influence on the reducing of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. The proposed methodology consists in a multi-objective function, in which is intended to maximize the profit, corresponding to the difference between the income and operating costs, and minimize CO2 emissions. In this case study it was considered a real Spanish electric network, from the city of Zaragoza, applied to the productions and consumption values expected in 2030. This network is constituted by 1300 EVs and 70% DG penetration of its total installed capacity.

The integration of decentralized generation units and the application of demand response programs brings changes to the power systems. Microgrids are emerging with relevant advantages for the power system operation. For this reason, several research projects are currently studding and finding methods to improve microgrids management. The development of adequate management systems, taking into account relevant retrofitting levels is of upmost importance. This paper presents and describes a gateway to be used in existing buildings in order to enable their integration in systems that are capable of managing microgrids. The gateway can monitor and control loads, generators and other equipment. For the case study the gateways will be installed in three buildings and integrated in SOICAM system able to manage microgrids. The results show the data retrieved by the gateways and sent to the central operation room.

Smart Grid (SG) concept is defined as an electricity network operated intelligently to integrate the behavior and actions of all energy resources connected to the network to ensure efficient, sustainable, economic and secure supply of electricity. This concept emerged in recent decades not only for economic reasons but also ecological and even political. SG have been the subject of major studies and investments and continues to represent an area of enormous challenges. Some of the problems of intelligent systems connected to the managed SG are: the real-time processing optimization algorithms and demand response programs; and more accurate predictions in the management of production and consumption. This paper presents a case study for evaluating the performance and accuracy of energy consumption forecast with use of SVM (support Vector Machines) in different frameworks.

The ability to adjust itself to users' profile is imperative in modern system, given that many people interact with a lot of information in different ways. The creation of adaptive systems is a complex domain that requires very specific methods and the integration of several intelligent techniques, from an intelligent systems development perspective. Designing an adaptive system requires planning and training of user modelling techniques combined with existing system components. Based on the architecture for user modelling on Intelligent and Adaptive Scheduling Systems, this paper presents an analysis of using the mentioned architecture to characterize user's behaviours and a case study comparing the employment of different user classifiers. Bayesian and Artificial Neural Networks were selected as the elements of the computational study and this paper presents a description on how to prepare them to deal with user information.

The recent changes on the electrical power systems make the role of distributed generation more important. Employing distributed generation in demand side allows the consumers to have active participation in the electricity markets. This paper implements the real-time simulation of a local microgrid that consists of two subsystems: home area network and neighborhood area network. In this system, the home area network is the electrical grid of a house and the neighborhood area network is the low voltage electrical distribution grid of the neighborhood. The main contribution of this paper is to assess scenarios for energy transactions between these two areas using real resources. In the case studies, several real profiles have been employed for simulating the consumption and generation of this local microgrid.
