Healthcare data contains some of the most sensitive information about an individual, yet sharing this data with healthcare practitioners can significantly enhance patient care and support research efforts. However, current systems for sharing health data between patients and caregivers do not fully address the critical security requirements of privacy, confidentiality, and consent management. Furthermore, compliance with regulatory laws such as GDPR and HIPAA is often deficient, largely because patients typically are asked to provide general consent for healthcare entities to access their data. Recognizing the limitations of existing systems, we present a novel approach to sharing health data that provides patients with control over who accesses their data, what data is accessed, and when. Our system ensures end-to-end privacy by integrating a Proxy Re-Encryption Scheme with a Searchable Encryption Scheme, utilizing Homomorphic Encryption to enable healthcare practitioners to easily and securely search and access patients’ documents. A time performance analysis is also presented, which allowed us to observe that the number of keywords has a much greater impact on the running time of the different processes than the number of files. ©2024 IEEE.

The penetration of micro-generation brings complex problems to the energy field. In this way, various simulators were designed to give decision support for the stakeholders, however, they intent to solve very specific problems. To address the current burdens in the healthcare of patients with vascular diseases, the Portuguese consortium of the Inno4Health project is currently developing a remote monitoring platform that aims to support the self-management of patients with vascular diseases. With the continuous remote monitoring of patients, it is intended that the platform supports both patients and health professionals. Patients will be supported through the presentation of personalized recommendations of activities to perform and health professionals will be supported in the clinical decision making through the presentation of meaningful insights. As the platform is composed by several components, including monitoring sensors, data processing modules and user applications, theressss is a need for the standardization of the data used. This work presents the implementation of a Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) specification in the remote monitoring platform to ensure the standardization of the data that will be collected and exchanged between the several components of the platform. With this work, it will be possible to easily and securely exchange data, as well as integrating new monitoring sensors and user applications in the platform. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Multiple energy systems have become increasingly interdependent in recent years. In the smart grids, energy aggregators (EAs) as intermediaries between consumers and energy markets are responsible to supply the required energy of consumers. However, fluctuations in consumption could endanger the expected cost of EAs. Therefore, EAs shall use flexible resources to diminish the unexpected variation of demand. Among various types of energy resources, battery energy storages (BESs) and combined heat and power (CHP) units are flexible alternatives to provide the required electricity and heat demand of consumers. In this work, a linear model is presented for the participation of EAs in the energy and regulation markets based on the electrical and thermal requirements of consumers. To model the impacts of stochastic consumption, the chance-constrained programming approach is used. Moreover, the McCormick relaxation is addressed to linearize the cost function of the CHP unit. The performance is evaluated via a case study and various confidence levels. Simulation results indicate that increasing the confidence level from 0.75 to 0.85 results in a 5.4% increase in EA's costs. © 2022 IEEE.

The Smart Cities concept is evolving from the project stage to the real world. Appliances become smarter and enable bidirectional communication - a huge step toward implementing demand response and empowering active consumers in the energy market. However, managing local communities with these new players is complex, and the entity behind them needs the right knowledge and tools. The authors thereby propose a methodology to manage the active consumers on DR events optimally. The study in the present paper is done from a real-time perspective. The distribution system operator detects a voltage violation and requests a load reduction to the Aggregator, the 96 active consumers, through load shifting. The proposed methodology was applied to eight scenarios, and the correct number of demand response participants for the case study was found. © 2022 IEEE.

With the rise of smart buildings, new expertise gaps and security vulnerabilities are emerging, necessitating a comprehensive understanding of their current state and proactive future planning to address these challenges. Such identification is crucial for mapping the pathway towards vocational modernization (keeping up with trends and goal alignment). To assess these gaps, this paper explores the extensive literature that draws on workshops, expert interviews, and research to identify emerging roles and training needs across seven countries: Greece, Spain, Portugal, Italy, North Macedonia, Germany, and the Netherlands. In particular, it examines the validity of its findings in critical areas such as security, privacy, and the integration of smart grids with energy markets. Additionally, the paper highlights future skills gaps emerging from advancements in IoT, automation, and renewable energy technologies. It emphasizes the growing demand for specialized electrical expertise to optimize energy production, integrate monitoring and storage systems, and manage electric vehicle charging and energy communities effectively. In conclusion, the study identifies critical gaps in expertise and training needed to keep up with the rapid evolution of smart building technologies. Emerging trends highlight the demand for interdisciplinary skills, particularly in IoT, automation, and renewable energy. As these fields advance, expertise in cybersecurity, energy management, and smart grid integration will be crucial, emphasizing the need for proactive workforce development and planning. The findings can be used to inform and direct policymakers towards the smooth reexamination of vocational training. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper proposes a novel approach for the provision of non-frequency ancillary service(AS)by consumers connected to low-voltage distribution *** proposed approach considers an asymmetric pool-based local market for AS negotiation,allowing consumers to set a flexibility quantity and desired price to trade.A case study with 98 consumers illustrates the proposed market-based non-frequency AS provision ***,three different strategies of consumers’participation are implemented and tested in a real low-voltage distribution network with radial *** is shown that consumers can make a profit from the sale of their flexibility while contributing to keeping the network power losses,voltage,and current within pre-defined ***,the results demonstrate the value of AS coming directly from end-users.

The aging of the worldwide population has led to a growing prevalence of vascular diseases, negatively impacting national healthcare systems and patients. The application of information technologies in the health sector has the potential to allow the remote monitoring of patients and the personalization of healthcare. This work proposes the architecture for a remote monitoring platform that supports the self-management of vascular diseases in the context of the Inno4Health project, with the goal of stimulating the innovation in the continuous monitoring of the patients’ health. The platform aims to support health professionals and patients with vascular diseases through the continuous monitoring of their health condition and presentation of monitoring reports. Self-management tools will be provided to patients through the presentation of personalized recommendations adapted to their current health condition. By doing so, we believe it will be possible to improve the patients’ self-management of their disease as well as decrease the risk of disease-related complications. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Demand response(DR)is a flexible way to improve distributed energy resource *** innovative contribution of this paper is to include complex contracts in the model,which can accommodate the constraints according to the special expectations of each *** contracts are included in the optimization of distributed energy resource scheduling to dispatch DR according to the expectations of ***-period DR events are *** this way,consumers can specify the limits on the time,power,and remuneration regarding participation in DR events,which has not been considered in the *** state of the art treats these aspects separately or uses a statistical approach,without providing consumers with options to combine their preferences regarding different aspects of their flexibility *** model has been validated for 218 consumers using several scenarios and different types of distributed generation,showing that it is possible to increase DR with respect to the preferences of consumers.
