This article investigates the use of fuzzy algorithms for fractional PID control systems. The tuning of the fuzzy controllers is based on the prior knowledge of integer or fractional-order control strategy. The suggested fuzzy controllers are fine tuned using a genetic algorithm (GA). The effectiveness and robustness of the proposed methodology is illustrated through its application on the control of a fractional-order plant. The simulation results show the better performance of nonlinear fuzzy algorithms of fractional-order. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Economic development brings the current scenario closer to the depletion of natural resources. Directly related to this it’s the energy consumption and the need to seek sustainable solutions to prevent the harmful consequences of this depletion. Solar energy harnessed through photovoltaic technology is a solution capable of reducing the environmental impact, as it is a resource that is less harmful to the environment. The energy demand is seen as rising worldwide, and strategies must be developed to improve energy efficiency and maintain the balance of the electrical network, considering the comfort of consumers and the minimization of polluting emissions. In this sense, the concept of Home Energy Management Systems (HEMS) aims to reduce electricity bills, maintain the efficiency of electronic equipment, and Demand Response, which seeks to change the use of electricity by consumers. Thus, the present study aims to search the literature for different HEMS models, specifically battery scheduling, for the future application of a model for a case study in the laboratory gecad - research Group on Intelligent engineering and Computing for Advanced Innovation and Development.

Over the last decades Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) are increasingly being used in sports, especially in football, aiming to improve the athletes training and results. However, training systems for young athletes do not have, for the most part, learning abilities in order to adapt, evolve and find new training recommendations, designed specifically for each young athlete. In this paper introduce the Smart Coach user adaptation model, and whose main goal is to present our hybrid recommendation system to help young athletes evolve. This facilitate the interaction between members of a club technical staff and their young athletes, reinforcing the young person counselling, and their potential as an athlete. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2020.

In snow-dominated basins, water managers are tasked with producing seasonal forecasts of warm-season water supply. Machine learning is a promising approach for seasonal forecasting, but there exist many model types (e.g., linear regression versus tree-based models). Prior studies have sought the best model type for such forecasts, but model types exhibit different performance depending on feature set (i.e., predictor variables) and study basin. Moreover, comparatively less research has focused on the influence of different features on forecast performance. This study of multiple snow-dominated basins in the US compares the predictive performance of five machine learning model types by using a semi-exhaustive feature selection framework for optimizing model performance. This study also provides insight into which features, both currently and in the future, are important for producing accurate and stable forecasts. For each basin, the multiple linear regression (MLR) model built with its optimized feature set significantly outperformed the MLR model whose only feature was snow water equivalent (SWE). Furthermore, all model types performed similarly when built on their respective optimal feature set, further demonstrating the relative importance of feature selection over the decision of which model type to employ. © 2024, The Authors. The optimum delivery of safeguarding substances is a major part of supply chain management and a crucial issue in the mitigation against the outbreak of pandemics.A problem arises for a decision maker who wants to optimally choose a subset of candidate consumers to maximize the distributed quantities of the needed safeguarding substances within a specic time period.A nonlinear binary mathematical programming model for the problem is *** decision variables are binary ones that represent whether to choose a specic consumer,and design constraints are formulated to keep track of the chosen *** better illustrate the problem,objective,and problem constraints,a real application case study is *** case study involves the optimum delivery of safeguarding substances to several hospitals in the Al-Gharbia Governorate in *** hospitals are selected to represent the consumers of safeguarding substances,as they are the rst crucial frontline for mitigation against a pandemic outbreak.A distribution truck is used to distribute the substances from the main store to the hospitals in specied required quantities during a given working *** objective function is formulated in order to maximize the total amount of delivered quantities during the specied time *** case study is solved using a novel Discrete Binary Gaining Sharing knowledge-based Optimization algorithm(DBGSK),which involves two main stages:discrete binary junior and senior gaining and sharing *** has the ability of nding the solutions of the introduced problem,and the obtained results demonstrate robustness and convergence toward the optimal solutions.

Type 2 diabetes is an increasingly prevalent disease and patients do not always manage the disease properly. Therefore, creating tools that help diabetics self-manage their condition over time is of the utmost importance. Technological tools that include features meeting this population's needs, with an integrated personalized feedback system, in an environment of gamified incentives, may be the way for developing a sustained app's usage. This work aims to present a still in development, novel approach to managing diabetes type 2 with a focus on data analysis from user-inputs, gamification, and personalized coaching, with an accessible user interface. Thus, we will present some functionalities, in particular the theoretical and practical concept that is behind this development, namely the Transtheoretical model of behavior change to create different profiles, to provide customized feedback according to the user's behavioral stage, and also to ascertain if it induces any improvement at the behavioral level.

Current tools for self-management of chronic obstructive respiratory diseases (CORD) are difficult to use, not individualized and requiring laborious analysis by health professionals, discouraging their use in healthcare. There is an opportunity for cost-effective and easy-to-disseminate advanced technological solutions directed to patients and attractive to different stakeholders. The strategy of AIRDOC is to develop and integrate self-monitoring and self-managing tools, making use of the smartphone's presence in everyday life. AIRDOC intends to innovate on: i) technologies for remote monitoring of respiratory function and computerized lung auscultation;ii) coaching solutions, integrating psychoeducation, gamification and disease management support systems;and iii) management of personal health data, focusing on security, privacy and interoperability. Short-term climate reconstruction,i.e.,the reproduction of short-term(several decades)historical climatic time series based on the relationship between observed data and available longer-term reference data in a certain area,can extend the length of climatic time series and offset the shortage of *** can be used to assess regional climate change over a much longer time *** on monthly grid climate data from a Coupled Model Inter-comparison Project phase 5(CMIP5)dataset for the period of 1850–2000,the Climatic research Unit(CRU)dataset for the period of 1901–2000 and the observed data from 53 meteorological stations located in the Tianshan Mountains region(TMR)of China during the period of 1961–2011,we calibrated and validated monthly average temperature(MAT)and monthly accumulated precipitation(MAP)in the TMR using the delta,physical scaling(SP)and artificial neural network(ANN)*** and uncertainty during the calibration(1971–1999)and verification(1961–1970)periods were assessed and compared using traditional performance indices and a revised set pair analysis(RSPA)*** calibration and verification processes were subjected to various sources of uncertainty due to the influence of different reconstructed variables,different data sources,and/or different methods *** to traditional performance indices,both the CRU and CMIP5 datasets resulted in satisfactory calibrated and verified MAT time series at 53 meteorological stations and MAP time series at 20 meteorological stations using the delta and SP methods for the period of 1961–***,the results differed from those obtained by the RSPA *** showed that the CRU dataset produced a low degree of uncertainty(positive connection degree)during the calibration and verification of MAT using the delta and SP methods compared to the CMIP5 ***,the calibrated and verified MAP had a high degree of uncertainty(negative connection degree)regardless of the
