Intelligent negotiation model for ubiquitous group decision scenarios

supporting group decision-making in ubiquitous contexts is a complex task that must deal with a large amount of factors to succeed. Here we propose an approach for an intelligent negotiation model to support the group decision-making process specifically designed for ubiquitous contexts. Our approach can be used by researchers that intend to include arguments, complex algorithms, and agents' modeling in a negotiation model. It uses a social networking logic due to the type of communication employed by the agents and it intends to support the ubiquitous group decision-making process in a similar way to the real process, which simultaneously preserves the amount and quality of intelligence generated in face-to-face meetings. We propose a new look into this problem by considering and defining strategies to deal with important points such as the type of attributes in the multicriterion problems, agents' reasoning, and intelligent dialogues.

Being tourism a major economic and social factor in some countries, with a percentage of 2.9% of world GDP, it makes planning tourism routes and presentation of tourism points of interest to potential customers, very important. Many tourists plan their trips in advance using information gathered in Internet research. This action can be very stressful due to the excess of unnecessary information obtained in this kind of research. There's also a fast growth of tourism interests in categories like sports, professional areas and medicinal tourism types, creating a business opportunity for tourism route planning tools. This opportunity also requires information for events in these specific tourism areas, in order to provide it to potential customers. Copyright is held by the owner/author(s).

An electrocardiogram (ECG) system deals with several challenges related with noise sources. The denoising process is a challenge due to ECG signal amplitude with respect to noise amplitude. The filtering process can be executed by analogue filters or digital filters, however, modern systems uses digital filters mainly because their flexibility, efficiency and hardware costs reduction. This paper compares the ability of two digital techniques used in ECG denoising, namely Adaptive Filter (AF) and Singular Value Decomposition (SVD). The techniques were applied to real ECG signals contaminated with the most common noise sources;artefacts caused by electromyography (EMG) and power line noise (Hum). Copyright 2016 ACM.

Heart conditions are one of the most dominant health problems in Portugal, and the cause of the highest mortality rate. Check-Up Track is a system which allows patients to have a general overview of their health and suggests daily routine changes that they could make, or the system could advise them to seek medical advice. The system makes use of existing mechanisms, such as gym circuits, footpaths, and urban walking groups, by introducing intuitive and easy-access medical equipment like billboards and self-evaluation signs. In this paper we propose to develop a decision support system architecture that will allow the entire process of data capture, processing and the automatic and efficient output of results. The system will also allow statistical analysis of the data collected to help understand the current health status in any given region. Even though this paper is not bringing any innovation to the field of computer science, it aims to show the benefits that current computer science techniques and algorithms can bring to medicine or, in this case, Self-care medicine. Demand Response integration into an intelligent power system brings the consumers several advantages, not just in terms of lower energy tariffs, but also the benefit of monetary incentives for their participation. In this paper, an aggregator proceeds to perform the resources scheduling in order to reduce operational costs. After the scheduling, three reduction levels are applied to the most expensive producers. The value of reduction made by the producers is then followed by consumer's load decrease, considering their participation in an incentive-based demand response program. The prices applied to consumers depend upon the weighted average of production tariffs by type of resource. The considered network for the case study has 548 distributed generators, 10 external suppliers and 20310 consumers. Results show that the energy price can be reduced by implementing demand resources into the network scheduling, removing the most expensive producers.

This paper presents a proposal for the use of the Hybrid Fuzzy Inference System algorithm (HyFIS) as solar intensity forecast mechanism. Fuzzy Inference Systems (FIS) are used to solve regression problems in various contexts. The HyFIS is a method based on FIS with the particular advantage of combining fuzzy concepts with Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), thus optimizing the learning process. This algorithm is part of several other FIS algorithms implemented in the Fuzzy Rule-Based Systems (FRBS) package of R. The ANN algorithms and support Vector Machine (SVM), both widely used for solving regression problems, are also used in this study to allow the comparison of results. Results show that HyFIS presents higher performance when compared to the ANN and SVM, when applied to real data of Florianopolis, Brazil, which helps to reinforce the potential of this algorithm in solving the solar intensity forecasting problems.

This paper presents a multi-objective energy scheduling for the daily operation of, a Smart Grid (SG) considering maximization of the minimum available reserve in addition to the cost minimization, to take into account the reliability requirements of critical and vulnerable loads. A Virtual Power Player (VPP) manages the day-ahead energy resource scheduling in the smart grid, considering Distributed Generation (DG) and Vehicle-To-Grid (V2G), while maintaining a highly reliable power for the critical loads. This work considers high penetration of critical loads, e.g. industrial processes that require high power quality, high reliability and few interruptions. A mathematical formulation is described and a deterministic technique based on Mixed-Integer Linear Programming (MILP) is used to solve the multi-objective problem. The effect of some customers with DR in this context is analyzed to assess the benefits in the energy scheduling problem. A case study using a 180-bus Portuguese distribution network with 90 load points, several DG units and a large fleet of Electric Vehicles (EVs) with V2G is used to illustrate the performance of the proposed method.

Dealing with increasing amounts of data creates the need to deal with redundant, inconsistent and/or complementary repositories which may be different in their data models and/or in their schema. Current data cleaning techniques developed to tackle data quality problems are just suitable for scenarios were all repositories share the same model and schema. Recently, an ontology-based methodology was proposed to overcome this limitation. In this paper, this methodology is briefly described and applied to a real scenario in the health domain with data quality problems. © 2016 ACM.

The integration of decentralized generation units and the application of demand response programs brings changes to the power systems. Microgrids are emerging with relevant advantages for the power system operation. For this reason, several research projects are currently studding and finding methods to improve microgrids management. The development of adequate management systems, taking into account relevant retrofitting levels is of upmost importance. This paper presents and describes a gateway to be used in existing buildings in order to enable their integration in systems that are capable of managing microgrids. The gateway can monitor and control loads, generators and other equipment. For the case study the gateways will be installed in three buildings and integrated in SOICAM system able to manage microgrids. The results show the data retrieved by the gateways and sent to the central operation room.

This paper presents a Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) methodology to solve the problem of energy resource management with high penetration of Distributed Generation (DG) and Electric Vehicles (EVs), based in multi-objective optimization. The high penetration of unpredictable DG, results in the increase of the operation cost, due to the additional constraints on the system, and has a direct influence on the reducing of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. The proposed methodology consists in a multi-objective function, in which is intended to maximize the profit, corresponding to the difference between the income and operating costs, and minimize CO2 emissions. In this case study it was considered a real Spanish electric network, from the city of Zaragoza, applied to the productions and consumption values expected in 2030. This network is constituted by 1300 EVs and 70% DG penetration of its total installed capacity.
